learning to play and having fun along the way. I want you to explore all that playing as to offer

About Charis
I have a B.S. in Music Education. I have worked with several disabled students patiently guiding them, finding creative ways to make music accessible to them. I believe it is not about me or the parent, but the student. I work with children of all ages believing that we can find a way that works so that in a few months you see results. Anyone can learn to sing or play but not everyone is going to enjoy it without the right approach and teacher. I don't want to hear a student say that the teacher didn't listen to me, they wouldn't entertain my ideas.
In my studio I have a studio piano and a keyboard. We have monitors and microphones and the ability to record. I encourage the composer to the pop music player, from the classical artist to the Broadway singer.
Currently, I have several students that compose their own music, helpi
ng one of those students to become a copyrighted artist.

For the child I have had the most success with the Bastien method and for the Adult pianist I usually use Alfred's method books. I constantly have access to musicnotes.com to download any current or older hit in addition to the method books. I want you to learn to note read and then to play by chords. I never want the student to lose their creative, artistic ability. They should feel welcome at all times to add input to the lesson. I want you to have fun learning and find the ability in you to make music. Please contact Takelessons if a time does not suit your availability. I may be able to work something out.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I own my music studio w/ piano, seating for parents. I have vocal equipment, microphones and monitors

*** Travel Equipment ***
I will have a music bingo game with me and whatever else is needed to supplement the lesson

*** Specialties ***
I teach any style and method that is needed, but prefer Bastien, feeling it doesn't drag the information out. I teach note reading and playing classical music to playing by chords and learning how to split the voicing

Great teacher! She was able to teach my daughter in 3 lessons what her band teacher couldn’t do in 6 months. My daughter walked away after her first lesson excited and couldn’t wait for her next lesson. You can tell Charis loves what she does.

Learn everything from "this is middle C" to "this is how you interpret this Rachmaninoff passage" to improvisation and music theory/history.

About Rebecca
I have 50 years of teaching experience, from beginners to advanced students. I also teach the people no one else thinks are teachable because I work with people from where they are and find their best learning styles. Several of my students are now professional musicians, but that's not everyone's course. I teach every age range from 3-83 and everything from classical to country-western. And I teach every orchestral and band instrument, and guitar, bass, and drum kit and some instruments you've never heard of. I also teach voice, pop, rock, opera, doesn't matter to me.

*** Lesson Details ***
Important Note: I will no longer take new students that want lessons every other week, beginning Nov 1. Inconsistent lessons, especially with younger students, allows them to forget too much between sessions.

What I teach is transferable
to EVERY endeavor whether it's music or math or soccer. I require practice on the student's part. You will be able to play recognizable songs within your first month. You tell me what you or your child wants out of music lessons, and I will tell you exactly how to get it.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lesson will happen in a space next to the family room which is upstairs. Teacher has a collection of instruments, music stands, couches for seating. Park on the street or driveway.

*** Travel Equipment ***

*** Specialties ***
I'm flexible. I have taught everything from country western guitar to classical guitar, from Jazz trumpet to orchestral audition music, from barbershop singing to Broadway musical singing. I have even taught ballet. I cater my methods to the student's best learning style.

Piano was the instrument I ran to when I was tired of classical guitar in college. As a consequence, I develop a very special relationship with it. I've learned to use it as a vehicle for expressing music in a way that's more free than any instrument that I do. Things I teach on piano usually include...

-Basic technique: scale fingerings, finger mechanics, dynamic posture
-Music Learning: how the piano makes music easier than with any other instrument, and what is the most efficient way to learn music
-Improvisation: how to explore music freely using easy keyboard techniques
-Composition: how to find and discipline your creativity through exploratory piano exercises

About Jonathan
I studied music therapy and music theory at Temple University from '06-'10. Learned a lot. Then again, I learned even more teaching at a school for kids with learning disabilities and working as a traveling street performer. Once you see the world and work with some unexpected challenges, you learn how to open up and knuckle down at the same time!

I am currently a full-time YouTube Creator, sidelining in cover bands and a solo act. Teaching is a big part of what I do online so I see my work as a private teacher as 'research' for the lessons I create. Although I'm firmly grounded in a classical music training, there's nothing you can ask about that I won't try to figure out. My favorite thing about teaching is using unexpected questions to develop new ideas that I then integrate into my original compositions. Check out my intro to the B
lues Raga video if you want to hear a good story about what I mean.

Recently I've had several articles published by the TakeLessons Blog. Check out my most recent post here.

About Sarah Faith
Studying classical music techniques gave way to my self-expression, songwriting, and the confidence to be the individual I am today. While finishing degree, professors empowered me to become the best individual I could be. I had the privilege of touring Western Europe, New York and the Southwestern US; several of my compositions and prepared classical pieces were performed; and I had the privilege to beginning Trinity Music Studio.

In elementary school I began studying piano, flute and music theory. Near the end of high school I had a dream of a new composition, and when I got to school the next day I wrote it down. That was the beginning of my composition career. For more examples of my works, please visit https://soundcloud.com/siobhan-468364094.

I've taken many piano classes with Sarah at the college level, and I can confidently say that she is one of the most driven, professional, and inspired musicians I've had the pleasure to work with. I was blown away when I discovered that she could professionally play instruments other than the piano, as her skills at the piano compare to those who have dedicated their entire lives to just that one instrument. She is a true musician, through and through.

My experience teaching piano spans nine years and I have helped my students develop their performance and interpretation skills to succeed in both examinations and their academic pursuits.
In addition, my students have learned to play their favorite songs, sing and play or improvise for special occasions or recreation. In our first lesson, we'll discuss your private goals and develop a plan for their realization. Within the first few weeks, we'll work on specific skills and techniques in order to achieve your goal. From the beginning, you will have a chance to practice your skills and work on music that inspires you on a grand piano. If desired, you'll have an opportunity to play your music at an annual recital or other performance opportunities.

My selection of materials depends on your skill level and personal goals. For beginners, I will often use Faber Piano Adventures, Alfred Piano, and the RCM Piano series. The RCM Piano series also caters to intermediate and advanced ...

Ever wanted to walk up to one of those free pianos on New York City summer streets, but felt too insecure or inexperienced to try? I have had nearly two decades of personal piano experience. While I am primarily a classical singer, I believe that learning piano and the structures of harmony is at the core of all musicianship. Whether you are interested in playing piano for fun or learning piano as the beginnings to a career in music, I am confident that I can teach you a combination of piano and theory technique that will help you succeed.

About Rachel
I am studying to become a professional classical singer, and am enrolled as a Masters degree candidate in Voice and Opera at Mannes School of Music. Through my own training, I have discovered that having an amazing teacher – one who is supportive, caring, and hard working, and who will push you and work with you to be better – is the most important tool an aspiring musician can have. I believe that every student is different; no person's body is the same, and no vocal instrument is the same.

Based on my performance in the Teaching of Singing course at Oberlin Conservatory of Music, where I just graduated with my Bachelors in Music as a Voice Performance major with a Music History minor, I was selected to be a voice teacher to non-Conservatory students at Oberlin College. I have now had several students, two of whom, with my assistan
ce, have just been accepted to prestigious summer programs in classical voice.

I am a native New Yorker, and I am a proud alum of LaGuardia High School, the Brooklyn Youth Chorus, Manhattan School of Music's Pre-College program, and the Boston University Tanglewood Institute. I am also proud to have received the Graduation award for top vocalist in my year at LaGuardia. All of these programs helped to shape who I am, both as a performer and as a teacher, and I am excited to pass on what I learned.

As a singer myself, I have discovered countless techniques and tricks to help every aspect of singing, as well as the discovery that what works for some people does not necessarily work for others, and that's ok! The voice is individual because it is inherently unique to the person it belongs to. It is the exciting, demanding, and amazing work of a teacher to bring out each individual's voice, and I love discovering a person's voice with them. I can't wait to work with you and find your voice!

About Sonja
Hi, I'm Sonja!

My musical background is probably like many other teachers - Masters of Music, several years of teaching experience, regular performer with orchestras and as a soloist, etc.

But, here are some characteristics that set me apart:

Extensive Training - I hold both my BM and MM degrees from the University of North Texas and have worked with several respected teachers over the years.

Well Travelled - I have performed in India, Thailand, the UAE, and Southeast Asia in addition to performing all over the U.S. - Chicago, Los Angeles, Richmond, Santa Fe, Albuquerque, San Antonio, El Paso, etc.

Fun approach - I keep students focused, but have a light hearted and humorous approach to teaching.

Adaptable - I keep a fresh approach to an outdated teaching method. I recognize that not all teaching approaches work the s
ame on every student and I am able to shift accordingly.

Communicative - I'm available anytime if you have any questions during your practice during the week. I accept text messages and emails. I want to be able to support you at all times!

She offers a good mix of “performance” pieces and exercises to keep the practices (and lessons!) both fun and moving in the right direction! After watching me play for only a few minutes, Sonja has the distinct ability of being able to determine where and how I can instantly improve, which she always offers in a positive, constructive format.
