In my lessons, my focus is helping students learn violin at their own pace, and developing their love and appreciation for music! Violin can be challenging, but anyone can learn with the right guidance! I have a conservatory training, and years of experience teaching people of all ages how to play. Students will learn technique, music reading, scales and arpeggios, and basic music theory in a comfortable and encouraging environment!

About Nick

I am a multi-instrumentalist from Queens, NYC, and I was the cellist/guitarist for the first national tour of the hit broadway show "Waitress".

I trained as a classical cellist at the Aaron Copland School of Music, and I am a lifelong guitarist. Before starting my broadway career, I worked as a freelance cellist, playing with numerous orchestras around NYC, in addition to teaching many students in the Queens/Nassau County area.

I also performed in a 30 city national tour the with the Post-Rock band "You Bred Raptors?". As a guitarist, I was sitting in with a professional band by the time I was just 14, and would later to go to play many clubs around NYC, such as the Bitter End and Bowery Electric, with my own projects.

Since the 'Waitress' tour, I have been freelancing in NYC as a professional musician and teaching musi

c at the Larchmont Music Academy in Westchester.

Great first lessons. I have 2 boys, each learning a different instrument (violin & guitar), and Nick was great with them. Looking forward to the future lessons.

Nick is really the best instructor ever! He is very knowledgeable about different styles and techniques, but he tailors each lesson so that the student is learning on their own terms - not pushing a methodology or using cookie cutter plans. He is very patient and kind and will work with you at your own pace, whether you are a beginner or want to learn on a more professional level. He plays a ton of different instruments and has experience touring with bands as well as classical training. He's really a one-stop-shop for all your musical needs! Hire him! He's made my life a lot better by teaching me his ways.

Luther stays where I’m at and then helps me go the next step. That is useful for consistent gradual progress without the frustrations of moving either too slow or too fast (I am a beginning tenor saxophone player). Nice interpersonal style, patient and easy going, while methodical.

I think Luther is great. He works with my 10-year old son on piano, singing and even trumpet and violin as needed. My son has to work hard to progress, and Luther customizes the lesson plan for him and seems to understand him well. I'm really excited about them working together.

Private Violin Teacher

Hello!

I have over 10 years of musical experience playing the violin, and other instruments. I also have over 3 years of experience working with children ages 4-12. I have the ability to work with all ages.

My interest is in the student. I am interested in tailoring lessons to the goals and desires of each student. I specialize in students starting out and getting their feet wet in the music world. I believe in setting goals and achieving them in a way that works best for my students.

About Chelsea

Welcome everyone!

I have a few beliefs:

I believe that everyone should know how to play an instrument. Whether it is violin, ukulele, piano, their voice, whatever! Music is a part of what makes us human, and is important for personal development.

I believe that no one is "too old" to start up an instrument. Age is only a number and it is never too late to start up something that may become a passion.

I believe that learning an instrument is a journey. Any journey has its ups and downs, but in the end, you are glad you took that first step.

I have been playing violin for over 10 years, and along the way have picked up some ukulele, voice, bass guitar, acoustic guitar, and piano. I am a teacher, and I have the knowledge and know-how to pass along to any student. However, I also consider myself a student in that I am always

looking to learn how to improve myself.

Any student of mine will have 100% of my interest in their growth and development as a musician. I can work with a wide variance of ages, having experience in ages 4-12 year old children.

I look forward to meeting with you soon!

My teaching philosophy is that music is for ALL ages and ALL abilities. I love teaching foremost because of the connection between student and teacher; I have been really blessed to have some wonderful mentors throughout my life, and I value being able to mentor others. I am here as a teacher to see you for your unique set of strengths, interests, and goals.

I have taught violin lessons locally for the past 9 years, and studied under Dr. Monte Belknap (BYU School of Music) from 2008-2012.

About Alyssa

I am a classically trained violinist, and I perform regularly with local artists, dancers, musicians, and composers. I am about to release an album this summer and am also collaborating with Alarm Will Sound on a performance of my original work for their 2020 season.

I love teaching adults and I love teaching children — of any level. Learning the violin is a beautiful skillset that can enhance creativity, logic, and problem-solving. I’ve even found that daily violin practice can be an entryway into living life more mindfully.

More about me:

From 2008 - 2012 I studied with Monte Belknap, head of the Violin Performance program at Brigham Young University. Professor Belknap is constantly innovating new ways to approach technique, and I value this approach in my own teaching. As a teacher, I model Professor Belknap's sense of innov

ation, while also drawing upon my collaborative experiences with various artists in my community. These approaches richly inform my process with my students.

Alyssa is a wonderful teacher and a professional player. Studying with her is efficient. She has a keen sense of detail, knowing what is most important to focus on for the next lesson. Her careful instruction reaches well beyond the violin as she teaches musicianship and ear-training. She'll prepare you for real-world playing at any experience level.

Alyssa is truly such an inspiring and helpful person to work with as a teacher. She knows her instrument so well, like it’s a close friend she has known for years, and is so easy to feel comfortable with as a student. She’s helping me develop a more personal relationship with how I perform and how compose that feels more like an extension of who I am. I am more well-rounded, confident, and equipped to engage with new musical challenges because of our time together each week. I cannot recommend her enough.

Music lessons with me are FUN! I am here to help you learn and support you along your journey.

My teaching method is special because it is tailored specifically to your needs. You are welcome if you're brand new to violin or if you've played for years.

I have been teaching privately and in music schools for 22 years and beginners are my specialty! I teach ages 4+. We learn songs that you are interested in. You will receive a balanced music education that covers all aspects of playing music.

About Mary E

I am a professional violin/fiddle player and singer, and I perform and teach music classes all over Manhattan and Brooklyn. I truly enjoy teaching and love seeing to the students needs and fulfilling what they need in order to progress as a musician. You are the most important part of our classes.

I worked for the NYC Department of Education as a substitute classroom and general music teacher (2015-2018). I have a background in students with special needs and special education. Se habla espanol.

I was award a full-tuition scholarship through an audition for the North American World Scholarship Program to attend Berklee College of Music. There I earned a Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance (2003).

I have been teaching and performing music professionally for 23 years. I began my studies as a young child with the Suzuki Method (whic

h focuses on learning by ear, substantial parental involvement, and only later reading music.) In high school I began studying jazz/blues improvisation, composition, and music theory. At Berklee College of Music I focused on jazz and all kinds of contemporary and traditional music.

After graduating I was awarded a position at the Henry Mancini Institute (2003) in Los Angeles and was privileged to work with some of the biggest names in music including Diana Krall and Christian McBride.

My favorite type of music to play these days is traditional Irish folk music, or "Irish trad". For the past few years I have immersed myself heavily in New York's traditional Irish music scene. I play regularly at several establishments in New York City alongside some of the city's finest Irish music players.

A large part of my teaching style is that you are having FUN, you are enjoying what you are learning, no matter your skill level. Even if you are an absolute beginner, we might work on playing the chorus or the riff of the song. For example, one year I had a very happy 6-year old boy learn the theme to Star Wars and another college student learning the music of MGMT.

Mary-Elizabeth taught me violin for 2 years. I was brand new and she made picking up violin easy and enjoyable. She recognizes current and future problems and suggests exercises to correct them. She always has a positive attitude, which helped me avoid getting frustrated. Her classes were relaxed and thorough. I could not have asked for a better teacher!

We met Mary-Elizabeth for the first time in January 2009 by recommendation of The Royal Danish Academy of Music.
We were looking for a private violin teacher for my daughter Elisabeth, age 13, who at that time had never played an instrument before and was clearly shy and nervous about the project.
From the very first lesson, Mary-Elizabeth not only showed the skills and the basic technique of teaching the violin to younger children, but most impressing was her enthusiasme and joy that immidiately spread to the student. You could tell, that this was a teacher who loved playing too!!
And that opened all the doors for the difficult practising and today I have a daughter who enjoys so much playing that she brings the violin on every holiday to make sure she always has the instrument nearby!
I can sincerely recommend Mary-Elizabeth for teaching and I guarantee you, the students will love playing and look foreward to her lessons!

Private Violin Teacher

I love teaching adults because we can build up meaningful relationships and have intriguing conversations through music! I am fully equipped to teach from absolute beginners to semi-professionals who had chosen a non-music career path. Let's work together to achieve your goal, and make beautiful music.

About Keiko

I served as a violinist of the Attacca Quartet, a NY-based string quartet that performs all over the world from 2005 to 2019. In addition to concertizing, I teach students of all levels wherever I go; I have given lessons, masterclasses and lectures in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Ireland, Australia, Japan, UAE... good thing we all speak the universal language of humanity: music.

I grew up in Yokohama, Japan, but I decided that I was ready to explore the world when I was finishing up the 10th grade. I moved to New York to pursue a musical life and career. I have Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Violin Performance, as well as Artist Diploma in String Quartet Studies from The Juilliard School.

I have been teaching students of all ages since 2005. Many of them were young children who simply enjoy playing the vio

lin, but I have had several students win domestic and international competitions. I am also very fond of working with adults with or without experience- I usually end up being great friends with them.

I often encourage my students to work on a solo repertoire of an appropriate level, as well as an ensemble piece that would help them develop their musicianship. I am very friendly and casual, but if you ask me to, I can be very tough (I was raised by a tiger mom.)

If you are a beginner and need help with reading music in general, don't worry- I teach a course called "Ear Training" at Juilliard, so that can be a part of our lessons as well.

I look forward to meeting you and making music together!

Private Violin Teacher

I have been playing the violin for over 18 years and graduated with my Bachelor's degree in Music Education in 2016. My instrumental emphasis in college was the violin. I am a professional violin player and have played in youth, college, and church orchestras, string ensembles, string groups, musicals, plays, choirs, and weddings. I have extensive knowledge and a teaching and performance background to give my students all of the knowledge they will need in learning the violin. The violin is one of the hardest instruments in the world to learn and takes years to master. With the right teacher and the right motivation, the student will be able to master this incredible and amazing instrument.

About Clarissa

Hi! My name is Ms. Clarissa Romero and I have been teaching music for 11 years! I have taught privately, for churches, and for a music school. I also obtained a Bachelors Degree in Music Education (Instrumental Emphasis) in 2016. I have a love and passion for music and aspire to pass down that love and passion to every single one of my students! One thing I love to share with my students is that music is fun to learn! In my experience, too many teachers are rigid in their teaching and not able to see the learning process from a student's view. I always take into account each of my student's views and aspirations along with incorporating an encouraging regimen to help the student learn not only effectively, but to do so wholeheartedly with a love and passion for music. I can't wait to get started with you on our musical journey!

"Amazing teacher

Kelvin is a great teacher. He has a hands-on teaching style integrated with little bits of music theory. Also, he gives you constructive
criticism on your originals that doesn't insult your artistic style, but rather works with it. When I first found Kelvin, I told him I wanted to learn an array of instruments so I can understand the workings of a orchestra before I assemble one of my own, and he was in full support of it! Over the course of several lessons, we've listened to several CDs and analyzed the arrangements listening for the entrance of different instruments that add complexity and depth to the music. Kelvin is the ideal teacher for learning the general concepts behind building a song, and learning specifics within songwriting. Assuming you dedicate enough time to your music between lessons, Taking lessons with Kelvin has been the best investment yet on my musical journey."

Why It's Never Too Late For Violin Lessons

By Suzy S.

Think you're too old to learn how to play the violin? Nonsense! Take a look as Los Angeles teacher Travis H. dispels the myth and explains why taking music lessons as a later age can actually be beneficial... The age at which a violinist begins playing is an interesting thing. Most of my violinist friends started when they were in elementary school, and just about everyone says that starting at an early age is the right thing to do. The music bug didn’t bite me until I was 16, and …
