Patrick L.

Arden, NC

About Patrick

Hi there, my name is Patrick, and I am now a new resident of the Asheville area. I am a music teacher of Trumpet, Piano, Voice and Sound Recording with more than 20 plus years of experience. Below, I relate some of my experiences and philosophies as a teacher of music since 2002.

*** Lesson Details ***
Trumpet Lessons
I have worked with adults and children, with beginners, and with more experienced players looking for a push or a new direction. I have developed many different teaching methods based on what each of my students wants to get out of lessons. The heart of most lessons I teac
h is learning to play or understand songs. Usually, I rely on my students to select the songs they wish to study, which I then transcribe to make personal arrangements fitted to their abilities. Of course, I will suggest or recommend songs at times. I also supply relevant exercises and music theory to accelerate the learning process.

Piano Lessons
I differentiate between concepts and skills, while stressing the importance of mastering both. As important as it is to understand the intervalic relationships in something like the major scale, this knowledge does little for the pianist if she or he cannot pick out the notes to the different scales in real time. In observing that each person demonstrates unique learning patterns and abilities, I have learned that some people will come to understand the conceptual through mastery of memorized tasks while some will succeed with technical mastery only after achieving some conceptual understanding.
Voice Lessons
Having first begun singing at 22 years old, I know first hand that it’s never to late to start singing. Having some experience in school but not fully as a professional till in my 20′s, I have learned from some of the top professionals in the South Florida area. My first vocal lessons was with Gloria Estefan’s back up singer Jon Secada. Jon has his first hit “Just Another Day” that stayed at #1 for several weeks. His one lesson really helped me use singing in my gigging around town. From that time on, I have used this technique for all my students. focusing on JUST BREATHING, has helped many of my students.

Teaching Sound Recording
Working in the early 1980s with recorded music and computers, I was introduced to the new wave of recording at its birth. At Miami Dade Community College, I taught and assisted students in Composition, Sound Development, and Sound Recording using Mac computers and PC’s. As of this day, I personally teach recording in Logic Pro, Bias Peak and Mastering using Waves plug ins and having finished products in Mp4 format and or CD’s.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Mac with logic pro software instruments, piano seating for parents

*** Travel Equipment ***
expect students to provide paper and pencil and put in practice time on their respected instruments at least 30 min a week

*** Specialties ***
Alfred,Hanon,Rubank Advanced Method for instruments.

Joey R.

Charlotte, NC

About Joey

Joey Rincon is a classical and spanish guitarist in the Charlotte and surrounding areas. He is a very friendly and compassionate musician, and is completely immersed in the music world. Naturally, he wants to share his love of music with his students, and his goal is to awaken the musical potential in his students. He's been on a journey with guitar for 15 years. As an instructor, he is gifted in providing inspiration to his students. Technique, expression, repertoire, sight-reading, music theory, and much enthusiasm describe the experience of studying the guitar with Joey.

Joey Rin
con has been honing his technique and artistry on the guitar for 15 years. He was born and raised in New York, where he was first introduced to classical music through the violin. Now, he is a music student of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte where he continues on his musical journey as a classical guitarist.

Joey Rincon has studied classical guitar under the mastery of Derek Day at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, and Charles Vaughn at The University of North Carolina at Charlotte. His playing reflects his Spanish culture and background, while simultaneously being fueled by his unstoppable love for music.

During his studies on the classical guitar, he has worked with the music of Mauro Giuliani, Matteo Carcassi, Francisco Tarrega, J.S Bach, and much, much more. What separates Joey Rincon from other musicians is his unmistakable close attention to small details in music. From studying under masters in the field, Joey Rincon pays special attention to the basic musical components such as melody, rhythm, and harmony, while putting a tremendous amount of effort and thought into his tone production. His musical ideas are an exact reflection to how he views the world around him; a beautiful, adventurous, and emotional reality.

His repertoire is forever expanding, but focuses mostly on the Baroque and Classical Era, and Spanish music, particularly that of Antonio Lauro and Francisco Tárrega. Joey is not limited to the genre of Classical music- his roots are in blues and classic rock, alternative rock, and even metal. However, the enticing sound of the classical guitar has become his primary instrument in the last few years, and performs mostly that genre of music.

I purchased acoustic guitar lessons for my husband as a Christmas gift and he took his first lesson on January 2nd 2016. I accompanied my husband to his lesson and met Joey. He is a very nice and personable guy. My husband was very pleased with his first lesson and said Joey was an excellent teacher with a lot of knowledge and patience. My husband already knows the basics of guitar playing but had hit a roadblock and couldn't seem to go any further without some good instructions. Some people are good at playing but just don't have the skill and patience for teaching others but Joey does. Mu husband learned some new things with his first lesson and came with some homework. Way to go Joey!

Leon Y.

Charlotte, NC

About Leon

Hi there,

My name is Leon and I've been teaching various subject for many years now. Over the years of teaching and through students that I've had, I realized that each student is different so I cater a customized learning plan to each student based on mutual preference and learning needs.

For all the subjects I teach, I have the credentials (certificates, standardized testing results) to prove that I understand the material. But that's not the whole story! Any teacher will tell you just because you KNOW the material, doesn't mean you can TEACH that material. That's where my teaching exp
erience along with my background in Learning Psychology comes into play.

Learning whether to reach a goal or enrich our passions is a lifelong journey. I look forward to walking together and discovering new heights :)
