Bil M. Dorchester Center, MA

About Bil

I am one of those individuals for whom teaching is just something that I have to do. I started giving music lessons sometime in the 80’s and have loved working with all levels of skill and experience. My students say that I am patient, adaptive and encouraging, committed to making music fun. I have a Masters of Music from New England Conservatory in Jazz Piano and am comfortable and fluent in a number of musical styles, including pop, rock, gospel, traditional hymnody, jazz, and R&B. Although I love and study classical music, it is not something I teach at this point. In addition to private lessons and performing, I do music transcription, workshops, and all forms of vocal and instrumental arranging. Having served as a church musician for more than 30 years, I currently co-lead ...

Gifted teacher and musician

His method of teaching is amazing. He makes music accessible and joyful. I feel challenged without being intimidated. This experience is so valuable because of his ability to bring out the musician inside of me and to help me understand why and how to make beautiful sounds.

A born teacher

Bill is a remarkable teacher. After 22 years of not playing I am truly grasping music theory which is opening my ears and hands up to music in a way that I have never experienced. Bill's teaching style is mellow and exciting at the same time, he is clear with the information and can sense when I get it and when I don't. His communication relates so well to tangible examples that I am able to grasp that it is making the learning easy and fun. Bill is quick with praise and kind with corrections.I look forward to seeing him every week.
Brent B. Quincy, MA

About Brent

I have twenty-five years of piano playing experience and have taught privately for the past five years. Lessons will include music theory, music writing, composing (if the student is so inclined), and performance. I specialize in teaching the works of Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Haydn, Schumann, Schubert and Brahms. A minimum of thirty minutes a day of practice, is a must. I look forward to the opportunity to work with students and parents to provide a challenging and progressive platform. I also have years of experience teaching older adults. I teach lessons either in my North Quincy home or will travel to the student. I supply the lesson books, to be paid for by the student. My previous work includes accompaniment for singers of German Lieder, Italian Opera, Art Songs as well as choral

I am a classical singer and have had the pleasure to work with Brent as my accompanist for the past 10 years. Brent is a very proficient and insightful musician. In addition to being quickly adaptable to all types of music, he brings a depth of understanding to any given piece that is both historically insightful and poetic. He is very happy to share his insights about musical personalities and their historical context which gives the music a greater richness. He also brings that to bear in working through the poetic ideas of the pieces we've worked on. This has been one of the best aspects of working with Brent and I hope others get to enjoy this collaboration too.

Joannah B. Boston, MA

About Joannah

Music has been an integral part of my life for as long as I can remember. In the evenings after listening to my mother teach piano lessons to a studio full of students, I would climb into her lap and beg her to teach me to play the piano. I eagerly soaked up everything that she taught me, enthralled by this incredible language of music. I continued studying piano with my mom all the way through high school, adding much-anticipated voice lessons in high school as well. We came from such a small town that we had to travel two hours round trip for my weekly voice lessons. As an undergraduate student at Willamette University in Oregon, I launched into further piano and voice studies earning a Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance. I began teaching seriously in the spring of ...

I was a beginner when I started working with Joannah. She met me at my level and crafted lessons that were just challenging enough to gently push me outside of my comfort zone; I progressed quickly as a result. She encouraged me to “be brave” when singing. Her encouragement coupled with her infinite patience created a safe space for me to learn.

Joannah is a gifted instructor. Time with her is well spent.

Joannah has been a wonderful teacher for my seven year old daughter. She is enthusiastic, patient, and full of ideas to make the lessons fun and informative. My daughter's playing has come along nicely. She worked with me through a bumpy patch (as can be the case with new young students) to keep my daughter involved and enthusiastic and now she really looks forward to her lesson each week. I'm very pleased and would recommend Joannah to anyone!

Classical Voice · In studio
I am happy to recommend Joannah as a voice teacher. At the urging some years ago of my two daughters (then in their teens), I started singing in my church choir. I had not sung in a choir since my teenage years. At some point one of my daughters noted that I was straining to reach certain notes and wondered if I was using the proper voice techniques. I knew nothing about such things, but, serendipitously, I had come to know Joannah, who had just begun offering private voice lessons, so I signed up. In just six or eight lessons one summer, she taught me how to stand, how to breathe, and myriad other singing techniques I had never known about. She was a joy to work with, and those few weeks greatly enhanced my pleasure in singing. I heartily recommend her.
Christopher S. Jamaica Plain, MA

About Christopher

Welcome! My name is Christopher S. and I am a classical guitarist, song writer, and experienced music teacher. I began learning music when I was nine on the piano however by the time I turned twelve I discovered my passion for the guitar. I began by learning songs and playing in band with some of my school friends. This was the start of my journey into music. I started with blues, rock, and pop music but I quickly moved into more complex genres such as funk and Jazz music. In college I began my studies of the historically endless and huge world of classical music. This is also when I began teaching and taking students of guitar. I studied classical music at Hofstra University and completed my degree at Humboldt State University in Northern California. After earning my degree I began ...
