Guitar Lessons in Houston: More than Just Strings

By Andrew D. - Houston Guitar Teacher

Have you ever wished that you had a secret world -one that you could retreat to any time you desired? A world that you alone could shape and, each time you returned, remained completely untouched by any hand other than your own? That world exists, and not in some distant galaxy or in the dreams of those deep in sleep (although they may exist there as well). That world exists in music; more specifically, that world exists when you dive into the world of learning to play music and musical instruments. Learning, growing, changing, and moving with music as it moves with you. When you take guitar lessons in Houston, all of these things are possible.

This is the reason I love to teach guitar lessons in Houston. To be able to share MY world that I have been building for so long is just such a powerful thing. Once you jump off that cliff into the open air that is the musical realm, you never stop falling deeper and deeper into it. It is truly something that stays with you for a lifetime. There is nothing I enjoy more than bringing somebody new to that cliff and showing them what lies beyond. It’s such a tremendous feeling when I see the look of understanding and excitement on a student’s face when comprehension washes over them, and then to see them turn around and use that new tool to shape their musical mind.

So awaken YOUR musical mind - take the plunge and begin to shape your world. Sign up for guitar lessons in Houston today!

Octavio M.

Acoustic guitar

About Octavio

I have been teaching voice for 7 years and my beginner students are already singing their own gigs. I have had only one advanced student in singing and in 2010 he got the zarzuela prize in the most prestigious opera competition in the world "Placido Domingo┬┤s Operalia). I can teach in Spanish, English and Italian. and for voice I specialize in opera and mariachi music. In guitar as well as in Piano I only teach beginners.

*** Lesson Details ***
For voice I only take students from 15 years old and on. This is only because the children's voice is very delicate and I think it requires a teac
her who specializes in children for it is a big responsibility. Once the puberty voice change is gone: this is my field of expertise. with great discipline and a huge desire of success, a student could be singing in less than 6 months in a proper, healthy and beautiful way.

For guitar and for Piano, since it is for beginners, is very simple and fast, and as well as singing, if you do your homework, then the achievements will come faster than you think!!!

*** Travel Equipment ***
I need from students to provide a piano or a keyboard for voice Lessons and for Piano lessons. I would provide the music to be copied, or they can buy their own music. For guitar they have to have a classical guitar and I would bring mine so that we both can use a guitar.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in opera (for voice), but it is adaptable to any kind of singing. In guitar and Piano is only for beginners.

ATTENTION: I DO NOT TAKE CHILDREN FOR VOICE LESSONS!!!

Mr. Octavio knows how to motivate a child. My son gets easily distracted with telling stories, etc and Mr. Octavio is able to get him to focus so well. He has an excellent combination of firmness with motivation. Plus he really knows how to get my 8 year old to understand lessons. Highly recommend!

Harold C.

Houston, TX

About Harold

I love teaching, and strive to ensure that each student meets his/her personal goals.

My lesson environment is relaxed; I feel that if the student cannot
get a little fun out of it, something is missing. I do, however, expect
my students to practice and to pay attention.

I enjoy teaching beginners, particularly young (8-15 year olds)
children/teens. A beginner has no bad habits which need to be broken.

Adults and experienced players are also welcome. I have particular
expertise in jazz harmony, theory & improvisation. I teach the
Lydian Chromatic Concept, among oth
er improvisational methodologies.

Experience:
1975-1978
Berklee College of Music, Boston MA
Majored in composition & arranging.
Studies with Russ DiFilipis and Bill Bresnahan. Ensembles with Gary Burton, Pat Metheny & Mick Goodrick, to name a few.

1979-1981
Houston Baptist University
Majored in composition
Wrote my first complete symphonic work.
Studied with Dr. Robert Linder.

1982-1984
University of Houston
Additional music history & advanced theory study with Dr. Robert Nelson

*** Lesson Details ***
Focus on proper technique for all students, regardless of his/her
playing ability. Once proper technique is established, I utilize the
Berklee Series as a basis for instruction. These volumes are
supplemented by exercises, which I write specifically for the
particular student's needs. As the student progresses, I incorporate
tunes that the student wishes to learn into the lesson plan.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide my own instrument and teaching materials/accessories.
The student provides his/her own instrument

Patient and very encouraging

Harold from day one has been great. He understands the difficulties in learning to play a music instrument. He gives you enough material to practice and master before the next lesson and makes you accountable for it. So great balance for a teacher that actually cares for his students. Not to much but enough that you see progress in learning how to play the guitar.

Steven E.

Houston, TX

My lesson plans are designed to be musical and fun. I want my students to understand the language of the music by studying their favorite bands and understanding the theory behind it. I have a strategy for everyone starting from beginner, intermediate, to advanced. I remember picking up a guitar for the first time and what a struggle it was to play my favorite songs. There is a method for achieving these goals and it is different for everyone. The one thing that will allow you to succeed is having a desire to learn and a passion for music. If you have those two things then I can direct you to the right path to achieve your musical goals!

About Steven

Steven E. is an American guitarist, pianist, singer, educator, producer, and song writer. Steve currently is a music director at CrossPoint Community Church. He also is a former member of Christian pop-rock group Press Play playing for thousands of people in Los Angeles, Ca. Steve holds a degree from one of the best contemporary music schools. At Musicians Institute he had an opportunity to study and play with some of the best teachers and students studying an eclectic array of musical styles. Learning from players such as Scott Henderson, Alan Hinds, Alex Machacek, Paul Gilbert, Chris Broderi
ck, the list goes on.. During that time he produced several records. He also worked on projects for members of Melissa Ethridge as well as mixing projects for jazz virtuoso Marcus Singletary. Steve is also an educator giving music lessons for beginners to professional musicians.
