I've had success working with artists of all levels overcome stage fright or even simply stage uncomfortability. Performing is a specific endeavor within the world of music and I treat it that way. I often accompany students at open mics so they have a very positive first performing experience. For the advanced student, I help you perform in a way that lets you execute at your highest level while also connecting with your audience whether for a gig, a concert or YouTube video.

About Diedrich
I hold a degree from Hamline University in St. Paul, MN, but that doesn't make me a good teacher. I've played professionally for over 25 years, have taught English as a Second Language, Hockey and Audio Engineering, taught people age 5 to 75, and have taught private music lessons full time in Minneapolis for the past 9 years, but this doesn't make me a good teacher. What makes me a good teacher is that I have an infectious love of music and a passionate commitment to helping people. I do have specialties, like helping singer/songwriters develop their lyrics, arrangements, voice, and performance as well as helping artists get through creativity blocks, stage fright and preparing for studio recording. My experience as a producer, studio musician and audio engineer has allowed me to understand what an artist needs from writing a song to rele
asing a CD that represents who you are at your best. I love what I do whether you have aspirations to be a professional musician or simply want you or your child to enjoy playing an instrument for yourself or friends and family.

*** Lesson Details ***
From the first lesson, my students learn, they grow, they feel good about themselves - and they get results. Whether adult, teenager or child, I find out what music inspires and I use this music to give access to learning regardless of level. Whether a Disney song, the Doors, or Debussy, I fuel your lesson with what lights you up. I am positive, attentive and also discerning. Quickly, I find out what learning style works best for my student; by ear, visually, or intellectually, and I spend the time to customize their materials and lesson plans to an extraordinary degree. If a student thrives with me being highly energized, or with me being more mellow, or if they have special needs, I'm able to adapt to what works best for my student. It is a joy and privilege to be a teacher, but especially a music teacher!

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have instruments, amps, laptop, mics...anything we need.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I often allow new students to use a loaner guitar of mine until they feel comfortable committing to purchasing their own. I help them find the right guitar for themselves by searching for used gear and accompanying them to the store. I provide all audio files and written materials.

*** Specialties ***
I teach ALL styles. I most often teach students wanting to play and sing songs from pop, show tunes, alternative, country, rock, singer/songwriter and jazz standards. I specialize in songwriting and often my students create their own compositions regardless of level. Improvisation (just playing!) is also a key part of my teaching.

I had an amazing experience with Diedrich!! He was very astute to my needs and my goals. He was very patient but at the same time was able to motivate me to work harder. I came for vocal lessons but at the same time he instructed me on guitar basics, it was the first time taking a guitar lesson. I always left feeling upbeat and a tad more accomplished!! Thanks Diedrich!!

I teach beginners from age 3 all the way through advanced adults. In music performance I work with each student proper audition technique as well as good audition material and poise. I also teach them what to expect at an audition.

About Diane
I have a degree and certification in violin and piano from the Boston Conservatory as well as a Master's Degree from the University of Maryland. I have had additional training and certification as a Suzuki teacher from The Suzuki Teacher Training Institute. I am a member of SAGWA-Suzuki Association of the Greater Washington Area as well as SAA-Suzuki Association of the Americas. I have played all around the world including the Vatican, White House, Paris, Russia, England and Wales as well as in Concert Halls such as Carnegie Hall and Kennedy Center. I have taken students with me to perform as well in these countries and also every major concert hall in the Washington, D.C. area. I give my students opportunities to perform whenever there is an opportunity. In addition I work with students to earn music scholarships to private school
s and colleges. I am also a judge in the Young Artist Award in Maryland. In addition, I have received two White House awards for my performances at the White House, I am also a member of Psi Chi International Honor Society.

Music has been an important part of my life. It represents so much that is good in life and I do my best to communicate this to my students. I am training my students not just to be musicians but to love music for life.

*** Lesson Details ***
I treat each student as an individual since everyone is different. For some I might use a traditional approach, some just the Suzuki approach and others a combination of techniques. Whatever produces the best results. My goal is not to make strictly classical musicians but to train students to love music and carry this love throughout life. My repertoire consists of everything including traditional, Suzuki, Disney, Showtunes, etc. I have taken students to perform little concerts at the White House, schools, hospitals and concert halls to get the real feel of performing. I view lessons as a three way relationship between myself, the student and the parent so that the parent is not left out. I even have a small group called Musical Magic which incorporates magic into music. I feel I am laid back but am able to accomplish my goal through positive reinforcement. Every child or student wants to feel good about his/her playing. If you believe in yourself, anything is possible. If you want online lessons, please contact me through Take Lessons since I have additional availability to teach online. In the past six months my students have performed for the National Humane Society at their animal ball, a multi teacher recital on a local stage, and just two weeks ago seven of them performed at Strathmore. This summer I have two more concerts planned. Coming up will be an all instrument graduation with several other teachers where students receive medals for their performances. No student is required to perform but if they want to the opportunity is there. All students are required to have an instrument prior to beginning lessons. If students need to rent a violin, I will provide you with the name of a violin dealer that both rents and sells string instruments. Piano students must have a piano or keyboard.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I teach at home and have both a grand piano and electric keyboard in addition to a harp and violin.

*** Travel Equipment ***
When my students have to travel to perform, I make sure they have everything they need.

*** Specialties ***
Traditional and Suzuki approaches for both violin and piano. I also teach children with learning disabilities.and have extensive summer programs to help students with auditions for youth orchestras and school orchestras.

Seth is a good dude. I came across his profile with Take Lessons a month ago, after browsing through other instructors in my area and other schools in my area. He's got the experience and knowledge, so I connected with him for an initial lesson. It was a quick one to get introductions out of the way and a good idea of goals/direction. From there we further honed our plans for my instruction in an hour lesson and are directing our sights on my upcoming auditions. Seth has shown me through simple explanations of theory that his teaching style is very approachable, and additionally, was able to show me good technical skills on working my way around the horn, which is especially useful for someone like me in my twenties who already has a few bad habits (haha). Like I said, he's a good dude, good sense of humor so I feel at ease practicing with him and his knowledge is insane! Not only for saxophone but in so many other areas of music! You'd be doing yourself a favor to take at least an hour lesson from him and see how you go.

Seth and I had a great first lesson. I haven't played in a long time and he gave me helpful pointers on how to improve my embouchure. He gave me positive feedback on my rhythm and constructive feedback on my tone. We worked through some songs together. Next time I will probably ask him to play some more for me so I can hear what I need to improve for a particular song. I highly recommend him.

Lessons in music performance are focused on the student and how they perform their songs or pieces. I will be analyzing the students technique, tone, and posture as they play their performance piece. Tips and suggestions will be given to help the student give the best performance possible. Wether it's a classical piece or a song for open mic night, I can help the student make it the best performance possible.

About Aldo
Aldo is a San Diego native with over 9 years of professional performing, and teaching experience. His musical path started at a young age in middle school and was initially self-taught on guitar. Throughout his early years he learned as much as he could on his own to be able to perform and did so and began performing in bands at the age of 18. Once he began his performing career, he also began studying music at Mesa College. During his years in school, he studied Music Theory as well as Classical Guitar under the guidance of George Svoboda and Jude Weirmier. As he was studying music and performing, he wanted to pass on his knowledge to others to help prepare others for the "real world" of musicianship. Aldo started his teaching career at Music Central at the age of 20 and was offering lessons to students of all ages, from beginners to ear
ly intermediate. To this day, Aldo continues to perform locally around San Diego in several bands as well as he runs his own independent record label to help promote other local musicians. He has never stopped teaching throughout the years as it is has been and always will be a true passion for him. Aldo is completely immersed in music on a daily basis by being an active musician, teacher, mentor, and overall lover of music. Aldo's knowledge of guitar touches every genre and style imaginable, from Bach to rock, jazz, metal, you name it! His goal is make you succeed and excel at your instrument. In his spare time, Aldo enjoys skateboarding.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lesson plan is very simple. First of all, it revolves all around you and what you want to do with guitar. It doesn't matter if you want to master your skills before you hit the recording studio, prepare for the stage, learn the song you have always wanted to play, or just learn the instrument because it has always been your dream. I can help you. My approach is very relaxed and encouraging and I will always provide feedback to make sure you are going to hit your goals. After determining your goals, I will cater your lessons to help you reach them. Students who would like to read music will go through method books and supplemental material. Those who would like to start playing right away will start off with chords, understanding charts, counting rhythm, learning tablature, and reading simple sheet music. Intermediate to advance students can expect to focus on areas where they need help. New techniques can introduced or improved such as sweep arpeggios, tapping, speed picking, and performance tips. For Classical Guitar, I can help students from a beginning level to an early intermediate level. I will help them work on their sight reading and technique along the way. My classical guitar lessons will have a strong emphasis on the performance of the pieces assigned.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Aldo's studio is fully equipped with practice and performance amplifiers. A spare electric guitar is available for students if they happen to forget theirs. Recording equipment, drums, bass guitar, and bass amp is also available for accompaniment. Repair and maintenance tools are also available for quick adjustments or restringing a guitar.

*** Specialties ***
rock, pop, blues, metal, classical, speed picking, finger picking

Aldo is the best guitar instructor I have ever had

Now granted, I haven't had too many. Half a dozen at most. But let's be real, here. Most guitar instructors are terrible. They don't have any kind of cohesive lesson plan, or they show up to the lesson high, or they spend the whole half hour "showing you what you will eventually be able to do" by jamming on their own, while you watch.

Not Aldo.

Aldo is like the quintessential guitar instructor. He shows up on time. He has lessons prepped, including printed AND digital sheet music (courtesy of an excellent iPad app). He carefully monitors your progress and updates the lesson plan accordingly.

But my absolute favorite thing about taking guitar lessons from Aldo is that he teaches you EVERYTHING. Technique, Chops, Chords, Music Theory, Improvisation, he knows it all. Also, literally any song you bring in to him, asking him to learn how to play, he will be able to learn in 5 minutes flat and teach you, at least the basics, in half an hour.

I was a student of Aldo's for 2 years, and in that time my skill as guitarist grew by leaps and bounds, and I looked forward to Thursdays at 5:30 more than any other time of the week. I seriously cannot recommend him enough, and I hope you get to take a lesson from him soon.

About Amanda
Hello everyone! My name is Amanda O., and I am a Harpist, Voice teacher, Therapeutic Musician, Life Coach, Alternative Medicine Practitioner, and Vocalist who has over 21 years of experience as a classical vocalist and performer. By 8 years old, I began training as an opera singer and have merged my love of classical vocals with the therapeutic harp. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Diego State University, with my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and am currently in my graduate program at Chaminade University of Honolulu studying to obtain my Masters of Science in Counseling Psychology. I graduated from the International Harp Therapy Program as a Certified Therapeutic Harp Practitioner and have completed an internship at Apreva Hospice. I have experience playing therapeutic harp music at over 30 different facilities around San Diego, such
as Narzerath House, Bay View, Bella Vista, Monte Vista Village, and La Mesa Health Care Center, as well as making In-Home visits. These include independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, and memory care facilities around SD! I also have experience playing for the actively dying for hospice and consider it an honor to be of musical assistance for people in transition.

I love to teach and can make my harp and voice lessons unique to each individual based on their current skill level. I love watching people expand and grow through music. Your lessons will be engaging, compassionate, fun, and organized! Each lesson will encourage you to become excited about your musical growth and inspire you to continue. I offer something unusual for a harp teacher in that I can teach both improvisation and music theory for the harp. This means that you will get the best of both worlds!

I also have obtained education from the Self-Heal School of Herbal Studies here in San Diego, where I have learned about herbal medicine. I am well versed in many alternative therapies (such as E.F.T., meditation, therapeutic music, Ayurvedic medicine, amino acid therapy, etc.) and can provide compassion, understanding, and strategies for alleviating suffering as a Life Coach. My education towards my Master's degree in Psychology also helps me increase my understanding of the human condition and offer additional support for anxiety, depression, addiction, and other stresses. I believe that everyone deserves to live a life of freedom, safety, comfort, and relaxation. I hope to provide loving assistance for anyone seeking someone who cares and will put in the time to truly listen and offer advice.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and please let me know how I can be of service to you!

At age 71, my fist lesson with Steve was August 6, 2015. His instructional style, skillful listening, knowledge and passion for music inspired me to practice and practice and write and write. To those ends, Steve encouraged me to attend an Open Mic Night or two after 7 guitar lessons. Though I was shaking like a box of pills at my first OMN, I eventually overcame my fear and played and sang several blues tunes I'd written. My journey continues. Sometimes I feel like I'm six years old, yet I'm learning how to play better under Steve's guidance. His influence on me has been, and continues to be, profound. Steve's integrity is unimpeachable.
