Paul M is an American born, New York-based Piano teacher, Vocal coach, Pianist, Composer and Artist. As an educator, Paul is part of The Suffolk Piano Teachers Forum, College Music Society and Music Teachers National. He has been an Adjunct-instructor at New York University (NYU). Paul also conducts master classes and seminars in The United states and South America. For the past few years, he has implemented classes in composition and music history in the coastal area of Ecuador and New York. His music studio in New York City is in high demand. He works with piano, composition and vocal performance students of all levels and styles, which include classical, jazz, blues, Tango, and Broadway. As a Pianist, In 2006 Paul was a prizewinner at the Music Club of Douglaston Piano Competition. For two consecutive years, Paul was awarded The Suffolk County Piano Forum Prize. XLNT Music recently wrote, “Paul is a fine pianist that performs with superb pianism and great sensitivity.”
 His recent public performances include Ecuador South America, Steinway Hall NYC, The United Nations, Faust Harrison Hall, Saint Peters NYC and The Staller Center. Paul has performed with The Stony Brook Symphony Orchestra and The New York University Symphony Orchestra. He has studied with well-known piano teachers including: Martin Canin, Morey Ritt, Tina Dahl, and Anita Gelber. In 2011 he released a record consisting of his performance of original compositions for solo piano that is available in bookstores and on iTunes.
As a composer Paul has composed music for the feature film Documentary Between the Shades, directed by Jill Salvino and premiered at the Soho International Film Festival in 2017. In 2014, Paul was the composer for the radio show Ackerman Associates Meets Dracula written and directed by Peter Stass. In 2014 he wrote the score for, Lies People Tell, a short film that premiered at the san pedro film festival. In 2011, he released his first solo record Succession of images, a song cycle for solo piano. In 2017, he released his second record Hope, a chamber music work recorded with clarinetist Thomas Piercy and Violinist Patrisa Tomassini. Recent public piano performances of his music include Ecuador in South America, Steinway Hall NYC, The United Nations, Spectrum NYC, Faust Harrison Hall, Saint Peters in NYC and The Staller Center in Stony Brook NY.

As an artist, Paul is known for creating large instillations, paintings and live performing art pieces. From 2014-2016, he was the artist in residence at Spectrum Gallery in NYC. In 2014, he completed the Elevator Time Machine, a large instillation made of elevator parts that responds to sound. He also wrote and produced a 20 minute live art piece called Static in Movement for piano and video. His acrylic on canvas works have also been presented at Spectrum NYC, The Art Bar, The Gallery at Logos and Ward-Nasse gallery.

I am also a composition teacher. I work with composition students from beginner to advance. My composition students, over the years, range from all ages starting at 7. My students, after the first year, have been able to write string quartets and piano trios. My advanced students have entered competitions all over the country and are very successful in their composition practice. Some of their compositions have been performed in famous concert halls and schools.
As a vocal coach, I work with students of all ages. The repertoire that I recommend to beginner students includes Disney, Broadway and classical music. For intermediate and advanced vocal student, I have successfully prepared them for competitions, Broadway and University auditions as well as personal enjoyment.
Most recently I held a piano, composition and vocal recital for my students at the world famous Steinway Hall in New York City. I believe that some students work better when there is motivation for performance activities. For that reason I host these type of events. Students that decide they want to take place in these events perform among all levels. I offer these performance opportunities as an invitation. Each student has a choice as to whether they would like to perform.

I consider myself a theorist sometimes more than a musician. The studies that I use are a combination of taking songwriting structures and breaking them down so that they make sense to anyone. Jason is a remarkable teacher! He truly has been able to break through a mental block I've always had regarding thinking in chords rather than just reading notes. His desire to help the student reach a personal goal is so evident. Jason remained so confident that a 'light bulb' would come on that I started to believe it myself. Chris taught one lesson to my son, then he cancelled the following week's lesson and never returned numerous phone calls, emails, and text messages. He didn't respond, then the following week at our next scheduled instruction he called me 30 mins before the lesson asking if he could move the date.

Needless to say, it was very unprofessional of him, and we intended to end our relationship with him as my son's instructor.

The thing got worse when he proceeded to schedule my son for a weekly reoccurring lesson for the next year. I've had to manually cancel each lesson, at least until Jan 2015.

I would strongly warn you against signing up with Chris if you expect an instructor who is reliable and responsive to your communications. I'm sorry it didn't work out, but the other problem is that this was my son's first experience to music lessons, so it was a bad first experience.

We're giving 3 out of 5 stars since that seems fair. With regards to the lessons themselves, Chris certainly met our expectations with our son's violin lessons. However, with regards to communications and scheduling, it could have been much better. More than once my son was waiting on Skype after receiving the "You have upcoming lessons" email from TakeLessons. Chris needs to learn how to cancel the lessons ahead of time. He rarely responded to emails (was trying to get him to stop showing our email openly to all his other students, really needs to learn how to use BCC). He never returned phone calls. Due to the canceled lessons, our TakeLesson pay date came prematurely, and since I waited until our son's paid lessons were completed before paying for new ones, we got dropped from the schedule and lost our time slot. Too many frustrations led to finding a new teacher.

About Andrea
With a rich tone and intuitive feel, vocalist and composer Andrea W. is in high demand as both a soloist and sideman in New York City and Washington DC. Andrea is said to have “astonishing vocal range” that is “effective in conveying the emotions of a song” (Jazz Times Magazine).

Andrea completed her Masters of Music at The Manhattan School of Music in 2013. Prior to MSM, Andrea received her Bachelors of Music in Jazz Studies from Michigan State University and attended the prestigious high school at the Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington D.C. where she majored in classical voice and piano.

Andrea received her Masters of Music Education from Columbia Teacher's College in 2017.

Andrea released her debut album “Dhyana” in 2011. She also sings for a French Gypsy-Jazz band, a neo-rock band, and a Nigerian
afro-beat band led by former Femi Kuti drummer Tosin Aribisala. She has been featured on several albums including a recent recording with Bizzy Bone of Bone Thugs N’ Harmony.

In addition to performing, Andrea is also a passionate educator. She has run her private voice and piano studio for 10 years and also teaches at The Larchmont Music Academy, Compass Arts, and Victoria Children's Group nursery in New York.

In the fall of 2013, Andrea and her band traveled to Mumbai, India to serve as the inaugural faculty at the True School of Music for four months. Andrea served as Head of the Vocal Department. The faculty taught young adults age 17-21.

*** Lesson Details ***
I believe lessons should be fun and that the most important thing about music education is passing on and encouraging a love for music. Especially with young children, I am flexible and teach a broad range of musical skills to help keep the student interested and engaged.

For both voice and piano study, I believe in finding your own sound and am willing to work with you on whatever musical style you are drawn to, but I am a big advocate of learning proper technique, regardless of the genre.

Lessons will spend time working on both technique and repertoire. Students are encouraged to bring in music that they want to learn. If a student is not sure of what song or style he/she wants to work on, I have plenty of books to choose from. We'll discover what you love together!

For younger students, we will do a more general music/singing lesson as the vocal chords are simply not fully developed yet.

For younger students (ages 4-10), I recommend 1/2 hour lessons. 45 minute lessons work well for ages 10-12.
Full hour lessons are recommended for students age 12 and up

Andrea deserves 6 stars instead of 5!
I followed singing lessons in Belgium, in Italy and had at least 7 teachers before, but only Andrea could explain me in a way I could understand how our voice works. She is patience, very well informed and trained. She looks at you as a person and adapts her teaching to your person.
I followed lessons for almost a year and if I would still live in the US, I would still continue. In that year I made an incredible improvement, for which I am very grateful. Don't miss the chance to have Andrea as a teacher!

Dan K. is a professional freelance upright and electric bassist and teacher. He hails from West Des Moines, Iowa, where in high school he performed with the Iowa All-State Orchestra and All-State Jazz Band. He arrived in Chicago in 2009 to attend DePaul University, where he studied with renowned Chicago bassists Rob Kassinger, Kelly Sill, and Jason Heath, as well as jazz faculty Bob Lark, Tom Matta, Ron Perillo, and Bradley Williams. Dan obtained his Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Studies in 2013.

Dan plays with a wide variety of bands from Fleeting Suns (folk rock) to Calamity Flamtet (jazz/funk/fusion) to the Dog Patch Ramblers (bluegrass/swing/Americana). Having over 20 years experience as a musician, I have had a natural inclination to play music by hearing it and repeating what I've heard--adding my own flavor into the mix as I've progressed. However, it wasn't until I spent time sight reading and dedicated many years of practice to implementing music theory into my training that I began to blossom. Learning music theory has opened doors of insight into the amazing structure and genius of music that I now use to strengthen my musical experiences, no matter what instrument I play or song I sing. I have a great enthusiasm for music theory, and that passion has lead me to learn not only Western theory, but also many systems of music theory from around the world. Hello everyone! My name is Amanda O., and I am a Harpist, Voice teacher, Therapeutic Musician, Life Coach, Alternative Medicine Practitioner, and Vocalist who has over 21 years of experience as a classical vocalist and performer. By 8 years old, I began training as an opera singer and have merged my love of classical vocals with the therapeutic harp. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Diego State University, with my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and am currently in my graduate program at Chaminade University of Honolulu studying to obtain my Masters of Science in Counseling Psychology. I graduated from the International Harp Therapy Program as a Certified Therapeutic Harp Practitioner and have completed an internship at Apreva Hospice. I have experience playing therapeutic harp music at over 30 different facilities around San Diego, such
as Narzerath House, Bay View, Bella Vista, Monte Vista Village, and La Mesa Health Care Center, as well as making In-Home visits. These include independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, and memory care facilities around SD! I also have experience playing for the actively dying for hospice and consider it an honor to be of musical assistance for people in transition.

I love to teach and can make my harp and voice lessons unique to each individual based on their current skill level. I love watching people expand and grow through music. Your lessons will be engaging, compassionate, fun, and organized! Each lesson will encourage you to become excited about your musical growth and inspire you to continue. I offer something unusual for a harp teacher in that I can teach both improvisation and music theory for the harp. This means that you will get the best of both worlds!

I also have obtained education from the Self-Heal School of Herbal Studies here in San Diego, where I have learned about herbal medicine. I am well versed in many alternative therapies (such as E.F.T., meditation, therapeutic music, Ayurvedic medicine, amino acid therapy, etc.) and can provide compassion, understanding, and strategies for alleviating suffering as a Life Coach. My education towards my Master's degree in Psychology also helps me increase my understanding of the human condition and offer additional support for anxiety, depression, addiction, and other stresses. I believe that everyone deserves to live a life of freedom, safety, comfort, and relaxation. I was given homework last week. Came back today & nailed it! That's what he said. Still a long way from being a singer(my opinion). I'm still nervous & in my box but at least my box is open now. Ron's so great at what he does, he could make the sun freeze. After 20+ yrs of not being able to sing & only 3 lessons with Ron I can sing a Sandi Patty song then you know Ron's the man to call if you want to learn to sing. He'll make it happen!...Piece of advice, relax ;)

My 3rd lesson was Tues, Sept 5th. Ron is so positive & fills me with such hope. Regaining a bit of confidence in myself but still a little withdrawn. After only 3 lessons I'm not having to carry all my tunes in a lead bucket, just some of them lol. Thanks Ron, you're the best & I hope you know it!
