Certified to teach Music Theory

Currently perform traditional classical music, jazz and blues standards.

About Aleena
I've been teaching piano and art for more than 9 years and I've been associated with TakeLessons for 7 of those years in 2 different cities. I teach beginning and intermediate piano students at my studio.
Teaching is a very gratifying experience.
Although my training was in classical music, I currently compose and perform a variety of genres besides classical.
I also create multi-media 2-dimensional art.

Music improves math and other cognitive skills. Einstein used the violin to relax and there are scientific studies correlating brain development with the acquisition of music skills.
I'm an encouraging and flexible teacher because every student is different and requires their own focus and individualized lesson plan.
I find it critical and enjoyable communicating with the parents of children.

****One of my students was a 16 y
ears old virtuoso in classical guitar. He came to me because he never learned how to sight read. Within 6 months he was writing his own music and decided to change his specialty from guitar to piano.
*****Another one of my students was dyslexic and he was told he would never be able to read music but he was reading music and within a few months he was writing it himself.

I look forward to helping you reach your goals! I encourage anyone who is interested in learning to begin lessons with the knowledge that they can eventually create any kind of art they desire.
I continue to perform and create which enables me to sharpen and maintain my skills.

I hope to have an opportunity to meet you soon and I encourage you to ask any questions you have!!!

*****I highly encourage scheduling only 30 minutes for beginning children younger than 12. Students are more likely to focus and enjoy their lessons when they are shorter in the beginning. They can always be extended later.

I mentioned to Gregory specifically I wanted to learn, which was GarageBand for iPad. He told me he taught middle schoolers and to book with him. I asked for more specificity on could he teach this exact thing, to make sure there was no confusion (please check the conversation he and I had within the takelessons website) and he kept saying book with me. I did.

He may know a thing or two about GarageBand (I don't know that for sure), but he knew very little about iPad GarageBand. It was a complete waste of my time. In text messages I said to him that I would not give him a bad review, but I was going to ask for a refund. He said thank you for not leaving a bad review. But then he wouldn't allow refund. Good God!

So here we are. He wasted 2.5 hours of my time, cost me parking in the city, didn't teach me literally anything, and he wouldn't give up the 50 bucks

All that said, now here I am having to take more of my time that could be used for productive purposes, to have to write a bad review. He really deserves this.

Very nice. It would have been better if I knew what books to purchase ahead of time. To maximize the lesson time, teacher should send expectations and tips for success to students ahead so preparation can take place. Be sure to have your own equipment too.

I have taken 12 years of piano lessons since I was 7 years old.
I have a lot of knowledge in the music pedagogy and great experience teaching beginner piano lessons.
I enjoy teaching and I always try to make it fun and enjoyable for my students to learn.
I use traditional, classical approach in teaching. I do not specialize in teaching jazz/pop/rock piano.
I don't have a piano at my house at the moment so I will have to come to your house for the lessons.

***Cancellation policy***
If you cancel your lesson less than an hour before its scheduled time, the lesson will be counted as attended. If the lesson is canceled at least an hour before its scheduled time, it will be rescheduled or cancelled without it being counted as attended.

About Alexandra
I began my violin and piano studies at the age of 6. I am fortunate enough to have had very many great teachers in my life. Since I have received so many different perspectives of teaching in my studies, I have seen firsthand several teaching methods. This molded me into not only a good player, but a good teacher as well. I love what I do and Music is my life.
I have been teaching privately for more than 10 years now. I have been professionally trained to teach all levels of violin playing. I also teach piano for beginner and intermediate levels.

While teaching, I never stopped learning. I received my Bachelor's Degree in violin performance from Kennesaw State University School of Music in Atlanta, GA. During my studies at Kennesaw State I have performed as concertmaster of KSU Symphony Orchestra for 3 years. In January 2011 I tra
veled to China as the concertmaster of KSU Symphony Orchestra for a three-concert tour that included a performance at the Central Conservatory in Beijing. In 2012 I moved to Chicago to pursue my Graduate Degree in Violin Performance at DePaul University School of Music. I served as the concertmaster of DePaul University Symphony Orchestra and was very lucky to learn from some great world-class musicians and professors. I never stopped teaching, even while being in school I had 20+ students I was teaching full time. I love to teach because it gives me great joy to share my passion with other people.

After my husband got a job with the Navy Fleet Band, we moved to Hawaii. If you are looking for experienced, patient teacher for your child or for yourself, I am a perfect match. Please read the reviews my former students/parents were kind to leave on my profile.

*** Lesson Details ***
I conduct my lessons in a friendly and non-stressful way. I am a very patient and enthusiastic person. If the student has a willingness to learn, I make sure that I do everything to capitalize on that and help them to reach their highest potential.
I structure my lessons to be very organized so we do not lose any time. I always give 100% of my energy in every lesson. I try to make the lesson interesting so it never gets boring for the student by teaching technical aspects and fundamentals as well as exploring a wide variety of styles and genres of music.
I require all of my students to practice at home. Practice is essential in making music. If the student does not practice he or she is not going to learn as fast and it will take a while to improve in their playing.
I do not teach all of my students the same way. I try to find different approaches for every student in order to accommodate their level of playing and their needs. I believe that there is no one perfect method to teach a student. I usually combine traditional and Suzuki methods. I construct the lesson based on what student needs to work on to improve as well as what student wants to learn. I always talk to the student to make sure that we have set the same goals, because I believe that it is important to be on the same page with the student.
I also do not have any age limits for my students. I believe that children of a very young age are very observant and open minded. I can start teaching a child as early as 4 years old. I also believe that it is never too late to start learning to play an instrument.

***Cancellation policy***
I understand that emergencies happen. Please be kind enough to contact me as soon as you know that you won't be able to make it to the lesson so we can reschedule or cancel without you being charged for it.
If you cancel your lesson less than an hour before its scheduled time, the lesson will be counted as attended. If the lesson is canceled at least an hour before its scheduled time, it will be rescheduled or cancelled without it being counted as attended.

*** Studio Equipment ***
living room studio set up, chair/couch for seating, driveway parking.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect students to have an instrument, a music stand and a willingness to learn. I provide some teaching materials, but it might be necessary for you to purchase one or two music books.

*** Specialties ***
Traditional and Suzuki methods.

Experienced piano teacher of 7 years! My lesson plan is simple : 1. we warm up with basic scales + finger exercises, 2. we focus on tone + proper technique, and 3. we play a variety of solo pieces, duets, and ensemble music (I prepare backing tracks to help w/ rhythm and timing... or play the parts myself).

The time devoted to each portion of the lesson is totally adjustable. You will learn what you want to learn at your own pace.

I could not ask for more in a teacher. Ryan is amazing in every way. He has been teaching my 4 year old son the drums for nearly a year. When my son started lessons, he was actually below the minimum age for students, but he shared a passion for music that Ryan was willing to cultivate and be patient with.

Ryan is versatile in his teaching methods, creative, open, patient. Teaching a young student, Ryan adjusted to teaching music reading fundamentals with colors and shapes. He also figured out ways to correct, critique and build all the while building a young child's confidence.

Ryan provides a written evaluation of our son annually and has him prepare for two public recitals a year. Ryan integrates modern technology into the lessons to quickly provide feedback and create customized beats and tempos to practice to.

Above all, Ryan smiles and laughs. He makes every lesson pleasant and we treasure him, truly.

"Study music while experiencing lessons to an enjoyable and relaxed approach!" This has been my goal and approach for students from young children to professional musicians in college. Whether piano, voice, or organ let's see how you learn best and make this a positive experience for you!

About Joseph
PIANO / VOCAL / ORGAN / CONDUCTING - I am a music educator and performer that loves working with individuals from the young child to professionals. I taught public school for 12 years and then taught at The College of Saint Rose in Albany, NY for the last 14. My degrees are from Western Michigan University, Indiana University, and Ball State University. During my teaching career, I provided private lessons outside of the school and the college. When I left NY, I had 35 students of which 6 remained with me online. I love teaching and create an atmosphere where the students, regardless of age, feel successful in their endeavors.

WHAT DO I TEACH?
*Piano: All levels from beginning to professional
*Organ: All levels from beginning to professional
*Voice: Beginning and those working with music theater
*Condu
cting: All levels

WHERE DO I TEACH?
*Piano: Mililani Homes, St Peter’s Episcopal & Online
*Organ: St. Peter’s Episcopal & Online
*Voice: St. Peter’s Episcopal (In person lessons only)
*Conducting: St. Peter's Episcopal (In person lessons only)

NOTE: Parents are welcomed to attend the lessons!
In fact, I encourage that!!

WHAT IS MY STYLE OF TEACHING?
Every student is different and what works for one may not work for another. It's important for me to know my students so I can better shape the lesson. I love questions, reflection, and humor. I'm very patient and understanding. We are all incredibly busy and accept that students may have weeks they are not able to practice a huge amount of time.

WHAT DO I DO IN ADDITION TO GIVING LESSONS?
I am the Coordinator for Therapeutic Music & Volunteer Coordinator at Hospice Hawaii and the Director of Music at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Honolulu.

Greetings! I specialize in introducing beginners to piano, and have worked with students as young as two and a half! If you're looking for a teacher who makes learning to play piano fun, then please contact me!

I recently filed a patent for an easy-to-read music notation system for beginners, which is so easy that 4 year olds can read and play songs on their own! The basic idea is that just playing the instrument is much easier than reading the notes. For example, instead of reading classical notation, a lot of guitarists play very complex music using tablature, which is a way of writing notes using numbers instead of dots on a staff; it writes music in a language they can already read, so that's what I did with piano, then violin, viola and cello.

Students around age 10 and under have a hard time orienting the piano staff because lower notes go left on the keyboard and higher notes go right, so I start young students by orienting the piano staff in the same direction as the ...

With a Bachelor's and Master's degree in piano performance from the Mannes School of Music, in addition to several years of teaching experience and an active performing career, I possess a comprehensive perspective and knowledge of making music at the piano. I believe that every musician is unique, and therefore, my positive, energetic, and fun approach to teaching focuses on the needs and goals of every student, individually. Having served on the faculties of the Bronx Conservatory of Music and the 92nd St. Y School of Music, as well as maintaining a private studio, I enjoy working with students of all ages and abilities, from beginners to already-seasoned pianists looking to refine their skills.

About Reed
I am an actively performing concert pianist with over ten years of teaching experience in piano, as well as music theory and ear training. I have personally been playing the piano since the age of four, and my own musical journey has taught me how to motivate students of all ages and experience levels, from beginners to seasoned pianists looking to refine their musicianship.

My lessons generally take place at my comfortable studio in Forest Hills (Queens), NY - where I have an excellent Yamaha grand piano - though I am open to traveling to students' homes depending on location. Young beginners will instantly benefit from my creative, positive approach, and will be playing songs immediately. Intermediate and advanced students will receive detailed attention to technical and musical issues - all part of a teaching legacy passed down to
me from the world-class faculty of the Mannes College of Music, where I earned both a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Piano Performance.

I am a prize-winner of several international competitions, and perform frequently both within the US and internationally, My experiences on stage greatly inform my teaching. However, my performance schedule does NOT interfere with my ability to give regular lessons.

I believe in the interconnectedness of all art forms - literature and visual art also play an important role in my approach to music. Most of all, I believe that every student is unique, and therefore, my approach is tailored to the particular needs of every student, individually. I look forward to making music together!
