The sound from a clarinet can evoke unparalleled emotion, (if played well!) by any other instrument save the saxophone. Clarinet artists such as Artie Shaw or Bennie Goodman could go the scales and get your toes tapping or draw tears to your eyes, depending on the mood of the music. In this beginners class, I will teach you the basics of mouth placement and muscle use, proper breath control and posture, finger placement and the start of learning different key scales, as well as some alternate keys for notes. I will also cover basic music reading, going over beat counts, tempo, sharps and flats and basic music terminology.

About Jennifer

I have been playing clarinet for 22 years, the first 7 of those as a student, the rest as a home teacher and spare band member at times, and always practicing and improving. My first band teacher told me that no matter how many years you play, you will never stop learning because there is no end to

I have been playing clarinet professionally for over ten years. My first performance was a production of "Guys and Dolls," and it opened up opportunities to play multiple woodwinds in all kinds of contexts. I am currently on-call to play with a number of symphony orchestras in town as well.
I am excited to share my passion for this beautiful instrument!

About Michael

I am a woodwind specialist with a degree in saxophone performance from the University of Arizona. I have been performing and competing since the fifth grade. Since arriving in Tucson in 2010, I have performed with dozens of groups, perhaps most notably the Tucson Symphony Orchestra. I play a variet

Michael is an excellent teacher and he was so patient with my daughter (5th grade). She was way ahead of the other students in her class and he found additional music for her to learn so she wasn't bored.

When my 11 year old son first began saxophone lessons with Michael Weiss, he was a true beginner but within 5 months, he was playing a song at a recital! Michael is patient and kind but firm in his direction and has instilled confidence in my son that he can play whatever songs he wants to play with focus and practice. Michael is flexible and adept at tailoring his lessons to the individual's needs. I highly recommend him.

My music education began 27 years ago with private lesson on clarinet. 5 years later, I began studying guitar, bass, theory and improvisation.

I am a professional musician who plays guitar for a local cover band. I also sub for local groups in the area and have been asked to perform as a guest musician. This is also my 4th year as musical director of a brass band in which I am responsible for selecting and arranging their music, as well as directing then during live performances.

Studying theory and multiple instruments at a young age allowed me to become quite diverse as I am able to play or teach any style. Lessons are customized to each student to ensure that the fundamentals are mastered as well as focusing on what interests the individual student.

I have taught music for 7 years and my students have ranged in age from 6-45 years old.

About Elliot

I believe that all students need to learn the fundamentals of their instrument, but lessons should be fun and geared toward the individual. My lessons are customized to each student and are the perfect combination of fundamentals and studying the styles, artists, and topics that interest YOU!

I have over 20 years of teaching and playing experience, and have worked with all ages and abilities. My youngest student is 4 years old, and I have helped folks in their 80's learn new instruments!

About Lisa

Lisa's first formal introduction to music came when her mother, a masters student at the Eastman school of Music in Rochester, enrolled her in violin lessons at age 6. The family moved to Miami, FL, but Lisa chose to move back north to attend college at the University of Rochester, and continue he

As an adult alto sax player, I had Lisa as a director/instructor in several small jazz ensembles. She is supportive and gave me a positive push ("a you can do this") in soloing/improvising. Lisa has been a mentor to me as I continue playing the sax and with her encouragement I was successful in performing in jazz band camp for 2 summers!

"David Blumberg is the best clarinet teacher I have had. He is knowledgeable in musicality, clarinet technique, and clarinet equipment. He is able to quickly identify causes of problems and offer multiple solutions. I learned many things from him in just my first lesson. I have had lessons at his house and on Skype. In addition to his vast knowledge of the clarinet and pedagogy he is also a positive person. He wants to see his students succeed. I highly recommend anyone to take lessons from him. "Before beginning lessons with Carter, playing clarinet was something that I dreaded to do to say the least. Once I started lessons I experienced exponential growth in my playing abilities and began to enjoy the instrument. Fast forward 6 years, because of the help of Carter, I have the opportunity to perform in prestigious youth groups, and have experiences that I wouldn't have had otherwise. Because of my lessons I have developed a love for playing clarinet and music that I wouldn't have had without Carter. -Matthew 6 years"
