I use a combination of Suzuki approaches, improvisation, Dalcroze-inspired eurythmics, and somatic movement awareness (inspired by Feldenkrais and Alexander Technique) to simultaneously develop fluent musicality, joy in making music, a solid instrumental technique, and musicianship (including reading and theory). A former sufferer of tendonitis, she has a particular interest in addressing and preventing performance injuries, in both beginning and experienced players.

I had decided to pick up the violin during the pandemic, so remote was the only option. I was a little worried that remote lessons might make it hard for my teacher to coach me on form, particularly. That hasn't been an issue at all. Susanna regularly gives me notes on bowing, fingering, and tune. It works quite well, and she's been flexible about which video conferencing system we use.
Can't recommend Susanna enough! She's amazing."

I am often asked if my violin is an antique or a vintage violin. Well, first of all, let’s define exactly what is antique or vintage. These seemingly nebulous terms do, in fact, have more precise definitions. An antique dealer, as well as the U.S. Customs Service, will tell you that the item must be at least 100 years old to be considered an antique. So today, an antique violin would have to have been made in 1921 or earlier. The word vintage is slightly more subjective though. The word itself …

As you're learning how to play the violin, the art of holding and placing your bow just right is important to master. There are a lot of details that go into proper bowing technique, and each has the potential to make or break your sound. For many beginners, learning to control the bow so it doesn't bounce against the strings is the first step. The dreaded "bouncing bow" is a common issue, especially if you're trying to play softly, or if you're nervous. Here are some possible reasons for a …
