David M.

Saint Louis, MO

About David

Composer and guitarist David began formal music training at the age of 5 on the drums. He taught himself guitar as a teenager and began playing in local rock bands. Initially entering college as a Journalism major, his passion for music led him to Meramec College where he studied Music Theory with Robert C. Howard and classical guitar with Larry Bolles. From 1990 through 1993, he attended Webster University, and became only the second composer in the school's history to receive the BM/MM Scholarship. While at Webster, he studied composition with Dr. Kendall Stallings, Robert Chamberlin, and K
im Portnoy, Jazz History with Paul Demarinis, and 18th Century Counterpoint with Dr. Eloise Jarvis. During his education, he performed with many student ensembles and sat in on master classes by the great sitarist and surbaharist, Imrat Khan and jazz guitarist Peter Leitch.

In 1993 he started St. Louis SoundWorks with Grammy nominated Adam Long and Mark McClanahan that specialized in mobile recording, and composing music for films and commercials.

As a musician, David has composed over 200 pieces for various instruments and combinations from small chamber ensembles to full orchestra. He was bandleader of two creative ensembles that focused on alternative notation compositions and improvised music, and later co-founded the avant-garde influenced rock band Diverted Course which released two CD's.

As a teacher, David has taught classical guitar and musicianship as an adjunct faculty member at Meramec College and Webster University. He has given seminars on the music of Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Ornette Coleman, and Anthony Braxton. He has been teaching privately for 23 years and many of his students have gone on to successful music careers and performed all over the world.

Really friendly teacher who instantly made me feel comfortable in his home. Very patient and always encouraging regardless of skill level. Opened up communication outside of lessons in the case that I had a question, David told me I could always contact him. Highly recommend!

Daniela K.

Saint Louis, MO

About Daniela

Hi ! My name is Daniela and I can't wait to meet you!
I have been teaching piano and theory since 1994 and have loved helping my students discover the beautiful world of music. Seeing my students grow into well rounded and educated people that love art, are able to recognize different styles of music, express their feelings and emotions on this wonderful instrument makes me really happy. My students range from people who simply want to learn how to play proficiently as a hobby to students who are considering making music their future career.
I strongly believe that a chance to go on a
big stage and play on a great Steinway piano in front of people, makes a big difference in children's lives: teaches them self control, gives them great sense of accomplishment and satisfaction. Taking part in festivals and piano competitions helps with building high self esteem even more.
I look forward to helping you and your children to reach your goals!

I'm an adult student and it has been a joy to return to playing the piano under Daniela's guidance. I highly recommend her!

Daniela is wonderful! She is so patient... even when my 5 and 7 year-olds are wiped out from their day and not so focused. Daniela is the first piano teacher for my 5 year old and 7 year old and they really enjoy their lessons with her... a great way to introduce piano to them. She's also very flexible with her days/times and always responds to calls/emails quickly. We've signed up for another set of sessions with her!

A wonderful teacher. I only had a few lessons from him before I had to move, but they were excellent and I was thoroughly impressed. Great with kids too; he taught a young girl lessons right before mine. Patient, kind, knowledgeable.. all the best qualities!

Jonny is an excellent teacher because of his own skill, experience, and prowess on the cello. He is patient with his students, but he also has high expectations that motivate his students to work hard. What sets him apart from other teachers is that he is also fun and engaging, with a dynamic personality. Jonny has worked with some of the area's finest cellists and has performed in many different capacities. This gives him a broader background for more well-rounded instruction. I would recommend Jonny as a cello teacher to anyone!
