Derek D.

Murrieta, CA

I am currently a High School Spanish teacher. I have taught Spanish 1 all the way to Spanish for Spanish speakers which I am currently teaching. I believe in speaking and listening. The more you listen and then speak what you have heard the easier the language becomes. I have 15 years experience teaching this subject and another 8 years of translation. I speak both English and Spanish fluently so I can really help my students with little tricks with concern to idiomatic expressions and such. I also understand the differences between the two languages which cognitively helps the students. I focus on basic conversation as well as all verb conjugations and tenses. I also teach grammar and writing skills. Basically anything that the student needs I can and have taught.

About Derek

I have been teaching high school Spanish since 2000. I translated for the DEA and FBI and lived in Mexico for 2 years where I became a fluent Spanish speaker. I have a genuine love of the culture, the people and the language.
I have been playing soccer my whole life and have coached for 12 years at all levels including Varsity High School and youth levels. I am currently coaching a team at Temecula FC and have a coaching license. I have two young kids of my own that play soccer and am the owner Elite Premier Soccer League where I also play.
I have a Bachelor's Degree from San Diego State U
niversity in Spanish and Latin American History and a Master's of Arts in Education Curriculum and Instruction with a specialization in English as a second language.

Cheyenne D.

Riverside, CA

I grew up speaking both English and Spanish, and am completely fluent in both. I also took AP Spanish Language and AP Spanish Literature in High School, so I can help you with that, as well! I can teach you sayings, teach you a little bit about the Mexica people, also known as the Aztecs, and Spanish terms!

About Cheyenne

I've been informally teaching students since I was in high school, and I have tutored students in my free time since 2012. I love working with kids of any age, and I am very patient. I am also fluent in English and Spanish. I look forward to working with you!

Maria C.

Rialto, CA

I'm a free lesson kind of teacher and enjoy just practicing with people. However, I do believe in repetition and integration. So, we'll look at what books, movies, songs or topics that you like and try to use them within the lesson. You can expect a variety of different activities from fill-in-the-blank, writing assignments, speaking games to role play and more! We can use whatever materials you have or we can look for new ones together (since mine have Japanese on them, hehe).

About Maria

I've recently returned from teaching English in Japan to kids aged baby to 18. I was there for 3 years and did some practice lessons with adults on the side. It was a lot of fun and it was great helping people reach their language goals.

I'm patient and easy going but as a teacher, I expect students to do their part. You only get what you put in, after all. (Younger kids have a bit of an exception, naturally). I think it's vital to customize lessons to suit one's needs. For example, those that want to speak, we can do mock conversations, reading aloud and the like instead of focusing on gr
ammar. Some questions you want to ask yourself: What are your goals? How do you like to learn? What can you do to integrate the language to your life?

I'm fairly flexible in terms of meetings and schedules. I like meeting out in places since it helps me get to know the area I live in, haha. We can discuss it all!
