I have been singing and studying voice for over 23 years since I was a child! I hold a Bachelors from Musicians Institute and other accomplished degrees from American Musical Dramatic Academy to conclude my quest for vocal excellence and the ability to sing in multiple languages ( English, Spanish, Japanese and Italian) I have been lucky enough to study with some of the top teachers in the country and now I bring the experience I have gained directly to you!
I am proud to share my student's vast array of musical successes. From being cast on short anime films and musicals to being accepted in
to prestigious performing arts academies to conquering the Karaoke scene. My passion for multiple languages and love of music is the desire driving me to share the gifts for teaching young children to open the door to their own musical abilities and hidden artistic desires. I am currently writing a musical which will be debuting in 2020. I'm currently the vocal coach and choir director at Iglesia Elim Central.

I will make sure my students have fun and help them get in the right track to their musical goals.

*** Lesson Details ***
I do my absolute best to create a positive atmosphere for my students. Even when the students feel frustrated or stressed, it is important to inspire them and give them the fuel that they need. Though I am strict when it comes to homework and their about their studies. Every lesson at the beginning I will review what we learned previously and test them.
then begin with proper breathing technique exercises, the cornerstone of all vocals. We move on to vocal exercises to condition the voice. Then we work on the songs that you are eager to sing!

I will use a piano when doing vocal warm ups and conditioning exercises. Students that play other instruments and accompany themselves when performing (such as a guitar) are encouraged to bring that instrument to their lessons. My goal is for them to gain the knowledge that they need to help reach their artistic goals.
With all my lessons every student will be taught a basic run down of Music Theory. My students will always progress in what they do. They will have the discipline that they need and yet have fun and be filled with inspiration. Which is the most important thing, to be Inspired to do better.

*** Studio Equipment ***
iMac, condensing mic...performing mic, keyboard, mixer...living room of apartment.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I do have a portable keyboard. Though I do expect the student to have their own recording device and karaoke tracks. At Home I do have a studio, and if the students has an iPod or an Mp3 player I can attach it to a device where all of us can hear the tracks. I do have a recording studio as well.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in Musical Theatre, and Pop rock genres. When I teach my students I always have them learn a song of another language whether it's Spanish or Japanese. It helps with diction when they learn a song outside the English Language. Also It helps them to learn another Language at the same time. Also I give them a little anatomy class when they are learning how to sing. I give them a model of the vocal Chords and different areas of the Larynx and which part works for the chest voice and the head voice.

I coach everyone from high-profile professionals to young artists at the beginning of their career. Each session with me is always personally tailored to your progression, your type, taste in material, and preferred learning method in developing your craft.

I've trained formally for many years, holding a Bachelors in Fine Arts (Theatre) from NYU Tisch School of the Arts and a Masters in Fine Arts (Acting) from The American Repertory Theatre at Harvard University.

I'm a proud member of SAG-AFTRA and The Actor's Equity Association, having worked professionally in New York, LA,
Miami, and Moscow in award winning Theatre, Television, Film, and Voice Over.

Each client I take onto my roster holds a special place in my life as a coach. Dance:

Pedagogical Philosophy in Dance

As an instructor of dance, I strive to witness the growth of the class ensemble, as well as each individual, not merely as dancers, but as artists with unique, layered complexities. I aim to celebrate the joy and passion of movement, married with technical foundations to enable the dancer to find his/her distinct expression. I wish ultimately for the themes explored in studio to extend organically into all aspects of each dancer’s life, unifying personal experience and art.

Fostering A Conducive Learning Environment
By cultivating open communication and collaboration with students, I am determined to propagate the following values:

Vulnerability & Discovery
Laying a bedrock for a safe environment that serves as a platform for exploration and discovery, I encourage open-mindedness and a willingness to risk—to strip oneself of artificial layers of self-identify, so that each dancer can reveal their own personal truths through movement that is not forced or pre-meditated.

Self Care
Dancers know their bodies better than anyone else. I urge students to develop an intuitive awareness, as well as responsibility, for their physical, mental, and emotional well-being. I engage my students in open discourse, constructive feedback, and guide them in locating their strengths and weaknesses so that they are able to look after their bodies like instruments that need consistent attention and care.

Growth & Balance
Regardless of the level of experience a dancer enters the studio with, there should be an established trajectory of continual growth: including but not limited to—advancement in technical skill, athletic endurance and stamina, and artistic sophistication. I believe in goal-oriented lesson planning to facilitate this navigation, journeying with students as they negotiate the balance between strength and flexibility, sharpness and smoothness.

Efficiency of Movement
By balancing weight and momentum in a technical equation that promotes energy conservation, a dancer is able to develop movement that is not compromised in quality. My students will be supported in building internal muscle strength, namely a localized core-energy that radiates power, so that they can efficiently utilize their inertia.

Specificity and Detail
The ability to execute distinct, stylized movement enables a dancer to articulate intention. Bringing awareness to detail of movement so as to paint the air precisely is key to presenting movement with finesse and flair, more fully embodying the character of the music.

Alignment
Improper alignment is the number one contributor to injury. Utilizing my experience as a trained yoga teacher, I find it essential to educate on anatomical alignment as a means to ensure preservation of the dancer’s finite instrument- the body.

Musicality
Sensitivity to dynamics in music greatly determines a dancer’s level of professionalism. My goal is to impart a deep sense of rhythm that permeates the “thinking” mechanism/barrier and lives in the soul unquestioned. It is crucial for dancers to be able to respond to music in a way that uniquely informs and enriches movement. Students will be equipped with basic music fundamentals such as (but not limited to) rhythm, timbre, and tempo in order fully master choreography.

Performance Presence
Assurance in one’s craft is the defining force in making an indelible mark on the audience. I intend to highlight the essential quality of confidence, a presence that arises from within, inseparable from a performer’s personality, and not worn like a costume superficially.

*** In Studio or Online ***
Of course it is more enjoyable if you can have lessons in person. But with modern technology, live online lessons come in a close second. I've been teaching for 40 years and I've been doing online lessons for about 7 years. I'm located in West Hills, which is a suburb of Los Angeles. If you are not local, using skype with a webcam works out surprisingly well. I have students in Sydney, London, Hong Kong and many cities throughout the US.

*** Use a Piano or a Keyboard for Practicing ***
I am not fussy if you use a keyboard but it needs to be a "weighted action" keyboard, so that it feels similar to a real piano. Ideally, you should also have a pedal and a stand if you are using an electronic keyboard.

*** Unconventional Approach ***
Each student is taught with a customized approach. You get to tell me what areas you want to focus on. Sometimes there may be a block or something that is a weakness that you need to bolster. Sometimes it is a narrow niche within music that you want to give your attention to. One way that I'm unconventional is that I actually have found that it is NOT better if you practice every day. I recommend that you build in about three days of rest per week. Just like people who work out at the gym learn that the off days are when the muscles regenerate, the same is true for your brain. This allows your subconscious mind to do its job and your progress will actually be faster, not slower. Another example of my unique approach is how I treat beginners. Even though you may not yet read music very well or at all, it doesn't mean that you can't start working concurrently on a more advanced piece. This is because READING notation is a comparatively slow process, but why should we restrict your ability to play something that you love to your rate of reading music? Usually, our FINGER TECHNIQUE develops much faster than our READING so I'm happy to guide you on one or two more difficult pieces and help spoon-feed it to you, bit by bit, "by rote."

I feel grateful that my own training included top teachers of both the “German School” and “Russian School” of piano technique. Generally, the German School teaches how to play with close-to-the-key hand placement preparation and fingering efficiency, and is known for great speed and accuracy. The Russian School teaches how to play with gravity and relaxation and is known for beautiful tone production. Each approach has its strengths and weaknesses. In my own playing and teaching, I have incorporated the good aspects of each and have discarded the bad. Howard's approach is patient while at the same time he actually leads my son forward - not just listening to what he practiced that week. Howard does not make the weekly lesson a "test" but rather a session to work together and my son enjoys the lessons instead of worrying if he prepared enough.

We moved from Los Angeles so we chose to transition from lessons in Howard's house to weekly lessons online - it continues to work beautifully.

Howard can accommodate any style of student - I know because I took lessons from Howard myself until my work built up too much to continue.

I recommend Howard without any reservation.

Folks, I'm excited to write this review for a true master in piano pedagogy and so many other skills! Howard is worthy of the title! In all my years that I have taken lessons from teacher at universities and privately, I've never come across someone with the genius and in-depth philosophy that Howard has. You may think this may be some fluff to help a guy out but my words will still not be enough to quantify the abilities of this man! I went from having severe arthritis in my wrists from playing with terrible technique to never having problems again and experiencing a huge leap in my playing abilities!

If you want to experience a paradigm shift in your playing, get ready to open yourself to a new way of thinking and playing that will lift you up! If your attitude to learn matches Howard's abilities to teach you will not believe the progress you will make. Its true what they say, when you are ready the master will come! I hope you are ready because Howard is the real deal!!!
