Mark B.

Castro Valley, CA

About Mark

I have played on tour with several professional bands, playing rock, pop, blues, African, metal, and country. I now perform live in various bands and record original music as often as possible. My music has gotten airplay in many countries. I started playing guitar at age 9, and recorded 2 singles in the LA area by age 14. I was a music major throughout High School and College. I also learned a lot by educating myself at the Brand Library in the Los Angeles Area, which specializes in the arts. I specialized in advanced music theory and improvisational techniques. I have enjoyed teaching music lessons since 1978. I custom tailor a lesson plan to fit your individual needs and goals! I can teach you songs you'd like to learn instantly when I hear them on your iPod, ...

Everything a music teacher should be

My worst nightmare was that taking guitar lessons as an adult would be similar to my forced and short-lived piano lessons as a youth. Mark quickly set my fears aside the first lesson by outlining what I would need to learn to reach my goals. He is very adaptive to the student based on music preferences and skill progression. Each week we focus on progressively harder songs.

Aside from guitar knowledge and teaching skills, Mark is also very flexible around your schedule. He really makes an effort to communicate and to reschedule when needed.

I'd recommend Mark to anyone looking for guitar lessons. I feel lucky to have found Mark as a teacher.

Very good teacher

Helps you out when in need doesn't get frustrated . Will take the time to teach you how to play rather than to assign you something and except for you to understand. Very good teacher

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you Maureen for the piano lessons you have been giving to my mom.. It was so wonderful yesterday my brother and his family came to the house and mom played "Love Me Tender", of course by Elvis Presley.
It was a tear jerking moment.
Mom has had issues with her brain from a car accident, and her piano lessons with you have been the best, best thing for her....from our entire family,
Thank you

Family Music Teacher

We have enjoyed having Maureen as our family’s music teacher. My son started taking flute lessons with Maureen in 2009 and advanced through the levels very quickly. He plays flute in YOSAC (Youth Orchestra of Southern Alameda County). He also plays saxophone and tried out and was selected for the Alameda County Honor Band. Maureen worked with him on jazz theory and improvisation and he plays in the jazz band at school. With Maureen, he worked through all six levels of Master Theory and is ready for the college level AP Music Theory at 14 years old. He also completed the MTAC (Music Teachers’ Association of California) Composer’s Today workbooks and used http://www.noteflight.com to write his own music and participate in composition contests. My daughter has been taking piano and violin lessons with Maureen and has been doing a great job. She is playing classical music on violin in school and in YOSAC (Youth Orchestra of Southern Alameda County). On piano she is learning to play the blues and jazz, as well as learning theory and composition. Both of my children have been able to successfully participate in the LaHonda Summer Music Camp. We have had a great experience with Maureen throughout the past 5 years and have enjoyed seeing her each week.

Piano Player

Last October my daugther received piano lessons as a gift for her birthday. We started taking lessons with Maureen in November, my daugther, who had just turned 6 was very excited to start classes. Maureen had been very patient with her and caters to her ability and age. Sometimes my daugther gets discouraged, because she feels like she isn't progresing as fast as she would like, but after class she is always excited and ready to come home and continue practicing. Overall, I am pleased with our experience thus far. Maureen is very accommodating and is equipping my daugther with the skills she needs to be a successful piano player.

Rhonda S.

Hayward, CA

About Rhonda

I have always had a love for music. From all the music trivia games my family won't play with me, to my large collection of records, cassettes, and CDs - I am hooked! I made my solo performance debut at age 7 by singing "It's A Small World" acapella in a school talent show. At age 9 I started taking clarinet lessons where I learned musicianship and how to read music. Throughout my school years I also sang in choir, played tenor saxophone in the school jazz band, and hoofed it in marching band. During my first year in college I took a beginning guitar class for fun and I never looked back! I studied classical guitar for 3 years and piano for 2 years. I ultimately received a Minor in Music from California State University, Hayward in 1990. I have been playing guitar for 27 ...

Great Teacher with lot of experience!

James has lot of experience especially on the kind of music I'm learning. There wasn't even a single piece that he was not able to give me advices and improve the way I play (or try to play).

Also on the personal side he is really friendly and ready to help on any other informations like basses, bow, strings, songs, books, etc.

To summarize, I saw a lot of progress in my playing after taking the classes with James... totally recommend him!

Molly R.

Hayward, CA

About Molly

I have been teaching for 13 years: kids, teens-even beginner vocalists in their seventies! Rockers, an "Idol" finalist, church musicians, lapsed opera singers, preschoolers. ...these are just a few of singers I have worked with, in person, in the classroom, and ONLINE (I just love teaching singers all over the country and the world!) . What you get in voice lessons with me: laughter as you learn! I have learned solid classical vocal technique from the very best . I have trained with respected opera singers who have performed with companies such as Lyric Opera of Chicago, as well as leaders in vocal pedagogy. I believe everyone deserves the same useful tools, no matter what it is you like to sing! I am patient and customize each and every lesson. Need more time on ear training? No

Molly was a fantastic vocal teacher! I have been singing for 15+ years and she taught me so many things I never knew that really helped propel me farther in my abilities than ever before. She made singing fun with all of her goofy vocal warm ups, and she really helped me polish songs I was performing. My range has been expanded and my breath control and tone is much stronger. She is a fantastic vocal teacher and I highly recommend her for vocal lessons! You will not be disappointed!

Molly is a wonderful teacher. She is very encouraging, active and creative. I have been studying in Molly's studio for a year now. I feel that I made a huge progress from point zero thankful to her patience and great positive attitude. Molly makes our lessons very engaging and fun learning experience. I felt at home from the very first lessons. And I consider myself a shy person! She always invents new interesting and challenging warm ups that help me strengthen and extend the range. She has a strong solid technique. Molly is also very attentive and if I don't understand the point right away, she will take time to explain it for me plain and simple. I had big doubts on wether I should take voice lessons in opera and classical genres being 22 years old, but Molly made me feel more and more confident each lesson. I am now sure that the decision to have classes with Molly was perfectly right for me! Thank you for introducing me to the marvelous world of classical singing and inspiration through every step!

Molly is the best voice teacher I have ever had! She's very positive and supportive. Not only is she extremely knowledgeable in both singing and acting, but she always makes sure the class is fun. If you want singing to feel natural and easy, while also sounding amazing, she is the perfect teacher. Every time I come out of her class I feel like I've learned something new and useful. I am forever grateful that my mom found her for me! She is truly amazing!
