About Thomas

My musical life began during the "folk boom" of the 1960's. I began songwriting and performing during my high school years. Later I was a member of a folk-rock band called The Bean Angels. We preformed and recorded in the Iowa City, Iowa area. Later I attended Montana State University where I studied music education. My training included: piano skills, music theory, music history, aural perception, conducting, and vocal pedagogy. I have several decades experience in teaching. I have taught guitar, piano, voice, and ukulele, and have directed a children's choir. *** Lesson Details *** I believe that each individual has his or her own particular learning style and pace. I've been taking ukulele lessons from Tom for about 2 months and have just added voice lessons. Tom is a very thoughtful, kind man. He has a great deal of knowledge about the theoretical and practical/performance aspects of instruction. He is also excellent at adapting his lessons to my own particular goals. What more could you want!

Thanks Joshua!

Lessons with Joshua are the highlights of my week. I'm a busy professional who works ~60 hour weeks every week, but lessons with Joshua motivates me to practice on top of that.

Firstly, he is a great singer himself, works in the theater business and performs regularly - which is what you want in a teacher (you don't want do _learn_ from someone who don't _do_ what he/she's teaching). A well-trained singer like him can recognize instantly what you're doing wrong and what needs to be done to fix it. He has well-developed ideas ready for you to utilize to improve your technique. They include analogies, ways to think about your body and your resonators, etc. His teaching also helps you understand what you need to do to sing in a particular style (in which you may not always want to sing "correctly") and what is healthy for your voice vs what is not.

Secondly, his lessons are enormously fun. He achieves a great balance of keeping things light and keeping things professional. We get work done each lesson but it never feels like work. I always leave lessons feeling like it was too short. I would probably book three-hour lessons every time if I could.

Joshua is wonderful!

I've always wanted to learn how to sing, but was too insecure/too uncertain to know where to start. Joshua has been amazing at teaching an absolute beginning, from how to correctly breathe, to learning how to match pitch, to recently making it through one of my first songs successfully. Joshua is incredibly warm and supportive; I highly recommend him as a teacher!!

My daughter was the youngest student she had ever worked with and she did a great job! Wilma was very patient and concise. She was skillful at identifying how my daughter learns and capitalize on that.

Ms.Wilma is awesome! She is patient and knowledgeable in Violin. Her expertise helped to identify that the music store provided our daughter with the wrong size violin. Once that was corrected, her playing got better. Our daughter, 4 years old, loves Ms. Wilma and is very excited for each lesson with her.

Wilma is a wonderful instructor. She is extremely patient and will go over the materials until the student understand and can play the lesson as required. I was able to sit and observe her in the lesson and was able to assist my son when he was practicing. She is always prompt and ready to go when we arrived. We never had to wait she was always prepared. My child is 6 and Wilma was able to get him focused on what he needed to do in class and he was able to replicate the lesson at home.

Patient, kind and effective teacher

I've had nothing but positive experiences with Robert! We've worked together for over a year and I can say my voice has improved as well as secondary benefits like my breathing. What I love about Robert is how he teaches, he helps my confidence, courage and faith in my abilities. In my work I use my voice everyday, often I am speaking in front of a large crowd. The lessons have really helped with speech, volume and enunciation. BTW I do all my lesson with Skype, which I believe is a great way to do it.

Liesl easily imparts her love for music to her students.

Liesl interacted well with our 9 year old granddaughter. She kept her on point and interested in learning the various skills necessary for a new student to sight read music. Our granddaughter had had three previous teachers who gave in to her excuses for not sticking to task or practcing. Liesel is upbeat about music and imparts that to her students.

great teacher, I love the way he interact with my son, making sure they understand each other. he takes the time to understand how my son learns and listen to his questions. He finds the easiest way to bring the lesson across and ensure that the practice time is chosen by my son so he feels he is a part of what going on and he his responsible for his learning. I will have no reservation in recommending Jan. He is great
