Christina B.

Lancaster, PA

About Christina

I began piano at age 6 under Suzuki-certified instructor Cindy Wittenburg. I loved everything about it - even practicing scales! After nine years, I took a break from piano and took up drums. While I loved drumming, upon my entry to Millersville University, I decided my number one love was still the ivories. I began learning under Dr. Anita Renfroe, graduating with a B.A. in Music Business & Technology. Although no longer in classes, I still teach myself piano works as well as write new pieces.

*** Lesson Details ***
My teaching philosophy is: Enjoy your time while learning something valua
ble! My teaching style is informal and relaxed, but I expect discipline and practicing on the end of the student. I love the excitement my students get from seeing progress, and if you're willing to work a little, progress is a guaranteed reward!

If you're someone who has never touched a keyboard in their life, after 4-6 months you can expect to be able to understand note values, read simple rhythms, sightread simple works, play pieces with two hands, among many other valuable skill sets. Late beginner to intermediate students can expect to be playing early advanced pieces within this time frame, as well as understanding more advanced concepts and techniques.

I utilize the Kodaly solfege method as I was taught at Millersville University, because I have found it invaluable in learning pieces. As a beginner, you will learn note values, rhythms, sight-reading, how to sing while playing, musical vocabulary, basic music history, theory relative to the piece you are learning, scales, arpeggios, proper performance technique, and much more! I frequently request a simple composition from the student to increase creativity and understanding of the instrument, and try to hold a recital bi-yearly for the students to show off their improvements!

*** Travel Equipment ***
I either provide the books and the parents reimburse me, or I tell the parents what to purchase. expect the student to provide either a piano or keyboard, a proper bench and music stand.

*** Specialties ***
Classical, Romantic, Contemporary, Rock, Pop

My first lesson with Christina was very exciting and informative. I also enjoyed her friendly atmosphere. I cannot wait till the next lesson. Because since my first lesson with her I've already started writing my first song-lyrics and all i can't wait to see what she thinks.

Amber R.

Carlisle, PA

About Amber

I began taking piano lessons at a young age and continued with them through my freshman year of college. I have a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and five years of experience teaching private piano lessons. My degree and experience with elementary aged children have prepared me to be able to tailor lessons to my students' individual needs, explain concepts in creative ways, and adjust the pace of lessons as needed. Playing piano is something that I really enjoy, so I love having the opportunity to give students the skills they need to enjoy it, too!

*** Lesson Details ***
I try t
o create a learning environment that's fun and laid back while still maintaining reasonable expectations for my students. I love seeing my students succeed, so I do my best to give them all the tools they need to do so! Faber & Faber's Piano Adventures books are my preference for students. I want students to have fun and enjoy what they play, so I also like to include songs from whatever category my students' are most interested in, such as popular, jazz, musical theater, etc. After 6 months of taking lessons with me, students will have a firm grasp on all basic piano concepts (such as finger numbers, note names, the staff, and time signatures) and will have the ability to sight read beginning piano pieces. Whether you want to play professionally or just learn a new skill, I want to instruct students in a way that encourages them to love music and have fun along the way!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Open floor plan- Living/Dining area. Piano. Seating for parents. Street parking available.

We just love Amber as our piano teacher! My 8 year old daughter has had lessons for a few months now with Amber. Amber is so easy going and really strives to make learning fun. My daughter actually enjoys practicing now and doesn't dread lessons, as she has in the past. She has a special gift - thanks Amber!!!

He is a great teacher! He balances technique with expression in his teaching, from learning scales to performing pieces. He made it challenging, but fun. He taught me and all my siblings as well and they have all grown to appreciate music and gained skills that they use in other areas of music and learning.

Having worked with Nikita and knowing him personally, I hold him in very high regards. Not only Nikita is an outstanding performer and musician, but he also is a very strong teacher, who holds high level of professionalism. Nikita finds individual approach to each one of his students, helps them find passion for music within themselves and express it in their performance, all of which are key pedagogical qualities. Having music as an essence of his life, Nikita naturally sparks love for music in other people. Nikita gave me many helpful tips on how to become a better performer, as well as how to have the confidence to be one. But above all, Nikita has a very bright personality, a very lighthearted sense of humor and a natural ability drive people towards him. Nikita is a very inspiring young man.

I've been taking Nikita's lessons for last 3 years and not only gained guitar playing and signing skills but also greatly enjoyed each and every lesson. Nikita's ability to adjust the education with respect to your level and personal interests is just amazing: classic music and modern songs, theory and practice, even your own favorite musical compositions make the educational program. This is much more than I could imagine!
Nikita has also been teaching my son for 5+ years and the result is simply awesome!
Thanks a lot Nikita, looking forward to keep attending your classes!

She was a fantastic bass teacher who really help me bring my talent to the next level, because of her I am now one of the best bass players in both my school and my church, and I am planning on getting a minor degree in music thanks to her.

Maria is always upbeat and knows exactly what you require to move your guitar playing forward. The lessons are always interesting and challenging and build on your last lesson. If there is a passage that is too difficult, she will break in down to understandable pieces. I would recommend Maria to anyone who has the desire to move their playing forward.
