Stephen has been giving our teenager daughter weekly lessons in "J-pop" dancing. Even though his background does not include this particular style, he has done a great job of staying ahead of our daughter, and-even more importantly-encouraging and motivating her to keep at it. (Since dancing is one of the few exercises she will do willingly, this is key!) She looks forward to the weekly lesson and so do we.

Elizabeth S.

New York, NY

I teach beginner to pre-professional ballet with an emphasis on musicality and freedom of movement through space. Most of my class will be structured, practicing the principals and details of ballet. I emphasize freedom of movement and love for dance. Very willing and able to tailor class to the individual student's needs.

About Elizabeth

I am a professional ballet dancer, currently performing with New York Theatre Ballet in New York City. I have been teaching ballet for over 8 years, and I have experience teaching all ages and levels.

I am an ABT Certified Teacher, and have successfully completed the ABT Teacher Training Intensive in Pre-Primary through Level 3 of the ABT National Training Curriculum.

My method is to treat each student as an individual, catering to their unique learning style, and progressing them to reach specific goals, which we define together. Formally, I was trained in the Balanchine style, but cur
rently I work in versatile methods and styles. My class is physically and aesthetically balanced. I teach absolute beginner through advanced ballet, as well pointe and variations.

I hold a BFA in Dance from NYU Tisch School of the Arts, as well as a BA in French Literature and Culture from NYU College of Arts and Science. In addition to teaching private and group ballet lessons, currently I am a dancer with New York Theatre Ballet, and Cherylyn Lavagnino Dance. In addition to performing, I am on the faculty at the Ballet School of Stamford.

This past spring, I performed with American Ballet Theatre in Alexei Ratmansky's world premiere production of The Sleeping Beauty at the Metropolitan Opera House at Lincoln Center. I also had the opportunity to dance with Armitage Gone! Dance in the world premiere of "On the Nature of Things," a contemporary ballet performed at the American Museum of Natural History. Prior to moving to New York I was an apprentice dancer with Richmond Ballet and North Carolina Dance Theatre.

Elizabeth is very attentive of your individual needs. I take her class when I feel I hit enough walls from the public classes I'm taking and need someone experienced to guide me personally and answer all the confusions I have. She helped me find my proper hip move and body alignment for my pirouette and also helped me get started on pointe work. I'm now accessed and approved by the Joffery ballet school teacher to join its beginner pointe class, which I'm really excited about.

Eliza is an absolutely amazing ballet teacher! I've worked with her for the past several months and have gone from the most basic of beginners (no previous dance experience at all!) to being able to leap and chasse and feel like a ballerina! She is extremely knowledgeable and patient, and has a great way of communicating techniques and concepts. Her lessons are fun and challenging, a great mix of reinforcing technique and learning new skills. The studio space is fabulous too - very comfortable and lots of room. Highly recommend her for any type of ballet lessons!

Amanda S.

New York, NY

I have been teaching Ballet in New York City for over 6 years, at various studios including the Joffrey Ballet School. When taking a private ballet lesson I will assess your technical level and help you understand what your strengths and weaknesses are. In a supportive way I will help to improve ballet technique, increase flexibility, refine rhythmic understanding to acquire clarity in your ballet training.
I will cater private lessons for beginning ballet students to professional dancers. My style is very supportive and direct. I believe that to improve as a dancer you need personal feedback and hard work. I am very passionate about sharing what I know to help other dancers reach their goals.

About Amanda

I am currently dancing with the Paul Taylor 2 Dance Company and on faculty teaching at the Paul Taylor School. While maintaining a professional dance career in New York City, I have been passionate about teaching dance for the past 9 years.

I have taught Master Classes and Intensive Workshops in the Paul Taylor style throughout the nation, as well as teaching Vaganova Ballet at the Joffrey Ballet School. I have taught in numerous public schools through teaching residencies with Rioult Dance Company and Education In Dance. I believe these experiences have taught me how to assess individuals
quickly and provide clear feedback in a positive and supportive way.

My teaching style is energetic, and focused on the personal experience each dancer is having, while giving direct and clear feedback. My goal is to help students reach their artistic potential in their dancing by helping to combine technique with lyricism, rhythmic dynamics and emotive qualities.

Private lessons can be catered toward each individual. Either for an upcoming audition, feedback on solo or ensemble choreography, to help personalize technical corrections and to help push technique to a higher level, or for non dancers to help understand movement and feel comfortable in a beginning class.

Catherine B.

I provide a rigorous, disciplined yet positive experience to dance students as I believe focusing on etiquette, technique, and musicality are most important. My class will involve strengthening exercises for injury prevention, the use of imagery for the expansion of the dancer's creativity, as well as incorporating a variety of ballet techniques/styles for versatility. My goal in teaching is to produce healthy, positive, technical and physically strong dancers.

About Catherine

n Dance Performance. Catherine has performed soloist and principal roles in several classical ballets as well as modern, musical theatre, and original contemporary works.

Sara P.

Brooklyn, NY

With an emphasis on strong foundations and musicality I would love to help anyone become a more well rounded dancer.

Whether you're just starting out or want to polish a few problem areas I'm here to help!

About Sara

Hello! I'm Sara!

I started dancing at the age of 3. I am well versed in Ballet, Modern and Jazz. I attended Joffrey San Antonio (2004) and Paul Taylor New York (2010) intensives.

While in high school I taught Ballet, Jazz, Pre-Pointe and Pointe classes to dancers age 3-14.

In 2011 I graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Ballet Pedagogy (which is the art or science of teaching).

Since moving to NYC 5 years ago I have been focused on performing with such dance companies as Exit 12 Dance Company (2011-2012) and Community Dance Project (2013-2014).
While not dancing with specific companies I have choreographed and danced in two music videos.

I can't express my love for teaching enough! To know that I could help spark the passion of dance in a young person is extremely inspiring.
