Music Theory is essential for a well-rounded musician to grasp. Not only should a musician know what sounds good, but why it sounds good. Simple theory includes note names, reading music, melody, and rhythm. Complex theory includes how extended chord structures relate to each other, Serialism, and harmonization.
Vince was first introduced to music theory when he began playing trumpet and reading music. He learned the basics such as notes, scales, triads, key signatures, and time signatures, from the perspective as a performer. At college and graduate school, he formally studied advanced music theory as applied to tonal harmony, twentieth century music, and jazz.
Often, theories are built upon other theories and thus support each other. Vince can teach the basics and some of the most advanced theoretical concepts to any musician regardless of ...
Music Theory encompasses the building blocks of music and helps create a complete understanding of the music being performed. I have experience teaching both jazz and classical theory, and pass this knowledge onto my students so that they may enhance their enjoyment.
Did you want to learn about music theory so that it will help in your music endeavors? I can help you. I'll start you with basic music theory then gradually advance you to more complex subjects.
I like to teach by breaking down songs my students want to learn. My students learn the fundamentals of music through playing the songs they like. Want to know how to play "Hotel California"? Looks like we're going over the difference between major and minor chords and how bar chords work. Itching to solo like Clapton? We'll need to learn the pentatonic scale forms, how they fall on the neck, and all about the blues as a music form. Really like the guitar part to Bruno Mars' "Treasure"? That's a good introduction to 7th chords and chord inversions. We can study music together to learn theory instead of going the other way around.
