Outstanding instructor of guitar. He goes above and beyond when it comes to teaching students how to play the guitar. He is very flexible, understanding, knowledgeable, and patient when he delivers his classes. Not only does he teach students how to play the guitar, he also does other things like teaching them how to tune their guitars, how to change keys when necessary to make a song sound better, and how to use a capo when playing the guitar. All of these are above and beyond what most teachers have taught me in the past. I really enjoy taking classes from my instructor.

Thomas G. Wheat Ridge, CO

About Thomas

I've performed and taught in a wide variety of settings. My early professional experiences have included 3 years in the Army Band, several cruise line contracts, and freelance work as a performer and composer. Through these times, I've learned to excel in many styles. I recently graduated from NYU, where I was an adjunct faculty member. Here, I also performed and worked with a wonderful faculty including Kenny Werner, Brian Lynch, Chris Potter, Ralph Alessi, Tony Moreno, and trumpet guru Laurie Frink, who all inspire me as a musician and a teacher. While in New York, I was a faculty member at Douglaston School of Music and Art, where I worked with younger students . It is my belief that discipline and technique are necessary elements that allow emotion and creativity to thrive. I ...

I've had many teachers in the past who only taught me how to perform well with the emphasis on technicality and repeptition; however, Tom created space for me to appreciate each and every bar rather than focusing on finishing a song. As a student who has become well-adjusted to structure, I learned the beauty of improvisation informed by theory through Tom. He is attentive, passionate, and always makes sure I got the concept he's teaching. He has a rare gift of creating such an intimate, peaceful environment where I can feel at ease and really thrive in playing music. It was in these calm moments my passion for jazz sparked more and more. I'm truly thankful to have had Tom as my mentor/teacher.

My daughter is currently taking beginner's piano lessons with TJ. He is extremely patient and encouraging. TJ makes the lessons fun and teaches at a pace that is right for the student. My daughter isn't afraid to ask questions and doesn't feel intimidated when she doesn't understand something. TJ is a great teacher. We couldn't ask for more!

TJ is a great teacher. I have learned allot in a short amount of time.
He caters the lesson to what I wish to learn while still making sure I learn to actually play not just learn the song. I have enjoyed learning from him and am still a student.
He does like coldplay but I will try not to hold that against him lol.

Great teaching approach

My goal was to be able to play songs around a campfire and TJ has been fantastic at tailoring our lessons to this goal. Every week I learn something a little new, but I also learn a song that is simple enough for me to play and which incorporates whatever new chord or technique he's introduced. I much prefer practicing actual songs vs. excercises and he always leaves me with a new song to play. He is also instantly likeable and lessons feel more like hanging out with a friend than a teacher. I would highly recommend him as a guitar teacher.
Mary F. Denver, CO

About Mary

I've been playing piano since I was 6 yrs. old, and guitar and organ since I was 13. I've been able to use music in so many ways, and that is the opportunity I want for my students. From singing in school and church choirs, to accompanying and directing them, I've had a lot of enjoyable experiences. I've had the fun of performing solo and with bands, and have been teaching music for about 25 yrs, both privately and in the schools. My BA is in music education and my Masters is in individual performance. I've taught K-Jr College music classes in general music, chorus, piano, guitar, and theory. I think my favorite form of teaching is still one-on-one lessons. Working with one student allows me to adjust my teaching to their particular learning style and needs. *** Lesson Details *** I'm

Extremely patient

I've loved banjo music for years but never had the courage to learn how to play until recently. I'm a senior citizen with absolutely no musical background. What I like best about Mary is that she's totally patient and encouraging but at the same time pushes me out of my comfort zone so that I learn something new with each lesson. When I struggle with how to do something, she suggests different ways to attack the problem or ways to work around it. In just a few months she's helped me be able to play a song for someone that they can actually recognize, which was the first goal I had set for myself. I look forward to many more goals. I'm so glad to have Mary as my teacher!

Practice more

Mary is an excellent teacher. Having been a teacher for 20 years, I tend to closely observe other teachers. Mary had much more to teach me than I was willing to learn. Playing the guitar is a psycho motor skill and as such it must be practiced diligently to gain the muscle memory necessary to perform the tasks. I didn't do it but Mary kept encouraging me and the more she did, the more I practiced, although I still fall woefully short of 30 minutes every day. Her lessons in music theory, however, are paying dividends since I also play some other instruments.
She is kind, patient, skilled and knows music inside out. I don't think I could have chosen a better teacher. I will start again as soon as I am able. Thanks Mary, job well done!

Josh is teaching piano to my six year old daughter and piano and guitar to my nine year old son. Both of my children love their lessons with Josh and are learning a great deal from him. Josh teaches information and skills that need to known to help the children advance as musicians while keeping the lessons interesting and fun. Josh is very easy to get along with and responsive to the needs of students, I highly recommend him as a teacher.

Travis was my son's teacher for about nine months. In that time, my son went from having never touched a guitar to having the confidence to perform a solo at his school's Holiday show. Travis shows patience and inspires an amazing work ethic in his students. My son truly enjoys playing the guitar, thanks to Travis, and he even inspired me to pick up my guitar after not playing for 20 years. I highly recommend him for students of all ages.

Our son really enjoyed taking guitar lessons from Travis. Travis's teaching style was effective and appropriate for the level our son was at and Travis was able to keep him interested and eager to learn more. Socially, our son connected with Travis, which, if there isn't that trust and relationship building happening, the learning won't happen. Thank you Travis for building a strong guitar (and music) foundation for our son! We highly recommend you!
