I teach all styles of Bass, including sight reading, ear training and theory. I can get you going fast if you're a beginner and take you through intermediate levels and beyond. I've been playing, teaching and gigging on bass for over 40 years. I also encourage you to bring the songs you want to work on into the lessons.
So you want to play an instrument? Well I have taught for over 40 years and have developed special programs for you on piano, guitar, bass, voice and other instruments for you to learn. From easy beginner to the most advanced, I will help you to learn the songs you love! Whether we use the most modern technology in my professional recording studio or just some chords or perhaps learning to sight read something for a talent show, I can take you all the way to the highest performance level. Your goals are my goals. I have studied with some of the most famous teachers in the world, includi
ng Charlie Parker's pianist Walter Bishop Jr. and Dizzy Gillespie's musical director Mike Longo, among many others. I also have the experience of over 400 gigs a year to bring to your lesson. I have performed on piano, guitar and bass and vocals with famous stars and some really great bands which will help me answer many of your questions. I am currently still working, teaching and recording all the time. I also have a professional recording studio in my home which you can take full advantage of.
*** Lesson Details *** I want you to have fun learning and can help you with understanding and memorizing your songs. I focus on sight-reading, ear training (like jamming and playing blues) and theory. You get to choose the areas you would like to learn. Once we have established the basics including melody and chords, we will pick songs you want to learn to play with your friends or just by yourself. We can use music books or go on YouTube to learn your songs. I have helped students with auditions as well as performances. After only a few lessons you will hear and see things differently than ever before.
*** Studio Equipment *** My studio comes complete with acoustic and electric keyboards, acoustic and electric guitars, electric bass and amps to play through, as well as professional microphones for recording. I use ProTools for recording which is used in every major studio around the world and it's loaded with great software for demos or mastering songs.
*** Specialties *** I teach beginner, intermediate and advanced students. I teach all styles of music including Classical, Jazz, and Rock/Pop/Blues. I also teach songwriting, performing and recording in my ProTools studio.

First online lesson and my Skype was not working. Cory quickly found a workaround. He was patient and engaged. I feel motivated to do my 'homework' and am confident this student/teacher match is a good one. I look forward to many more lessons!

Hello! Thank you for your interest in taking guitar/piano/music lessons.
I am a professional teacher/studio musician/performer/producer with over 17 years of private teaching experience and a graduate of the University of Miami Studio Music and Jazz program in 2002 specializing in the guitar.
I am available to teach guitar(acoustic, electric, classical) for all levels, ages, and styles(pop to folk, rock to soul, world to classical) in English, Spanish and Japanese.
Other subjects taught include bass guitar, piano/keyboard, ukulele, banjo, mandolin, harmonium, classical percussion, mu
sic theory, composition(all styles from pop to classical), ear training, and studio production/engineering/mixing.
Born in Cali, Colombia on April 1979, I began my musical endeavors studying the piano at the age of 6. Early on I had the opportunity to play percussion in the school symphony while at the same time developed an intense interest in the instrument that would become my true love, the guitar.
During 1996-98 I studied jazz guitar at the New World School of the Arts music program under the direction of J.B. Dyas and Dr. Roby George. Upon graduation, I was immediately accepted to the University of Miami jazz guitar program under the direction of Randall Dollahan. It was during this time that I also refined my skills as a classical guitarist and as a composer/arranger. In addition, I began passing my knowledge onto friends and eventually began working as a teacher.
My ability to play almost any genre of music is the fruit of past experience playing with an impressive variety of music groups, including jazz combos, symphony orchestras, Andean world music ensembles, and several rock and pop groups as well. As a studio guitarist I have recorded for various artists including Jaci Velasquez, Carlos Ponce, Alexandre Pires, and Noelia.

Every one of you is unique and there are many possible paths to reach your goals in music.
With my background and music industry experience, I am able to customize my lessons for you so that you can reach your desired goals. We will take some time to find out where your passion lies in music and I will use my experience and knowledge to create a customized lesson-plan that will allow us to focus on reaching your desired goals and at the same time maintain a well rounded music education.
I find this to be key in making the lessons and your practice sessions very enjoyable, fun and laid back - knowing that everything we practice, play and talk about is in line with your goals as a student.
I will also be playing along with you and demonstrating everything that we're working on - music is meant to be shared and played with others and it is important to have that experience of interaction from early on in your lessons.
So whether it's learning to accompany yourself or others, write songs, read music, understand harmony, solo, or just jam out to your favorite songs, you will be well on your way to reaching your goals within 6 months of my lessons.
Look forward to making music with you!

Edwin was very patient with my daughter. He had to start from basics as she was not sure of her self. He took his time and went over the piano keys.
Brian discovered his talent and passion for teaching while still in college, and has been teaching guitar and piano in Southern California for over 20 years. Gifted at teaching students of all ages and abilities, he combines patience, creativity, imagination and boundless enthusiasm with solid professional training and experience. Brian also has over 10 years experience teaching piano and guitar to blind and autistic students.
A lifelong musician, Brian received his first musical training at the age of 4 and 5 years when his actor/singer Dad and musically talented Grandma taught him to si
ng and play the mandolin. He began piano lessons at age 5, and formal guitar instruction at the age of 10 years.
By the time he was a 14-year-old high school student, Brian was performing as lead guitarist in rock bands around Southern California, developing mastery of rock guitar and blues performance and improvisation. Brian went on to complete a Bachelor's Degree in Classical Guitar Performance from California State University, Los Angeles.
As a jazz guitarist, Brian continues to grow musically in association with his colleagues of the Naomi Jazz Group, and other close musical friends who include students of the late, great Ted Greene.

MY APPROACH: I focus on four areas that I think are essential to being a good music teacher:
⢠the uniqueness of each student; ⢠the fact that enjoyment (fun!) maximizes learning; ⢠the importance of proper technique and an understanding of music theory to build self-confidence; ⢠the development of musicianship through performance.
EACH STUDENT IS UNIQUE: My first interest with each new student is to discover how he or she learns, and then to apply appropriate teaching techniques to maximize their potential. I gear my lesson plans to the individual and strive to optimize the learning potential of the student.
ENJOYMENT MAXIMIZES LEARNING: In a lesson with me you can expect to never be bored, to laugh a lot, learn a lot, be positively engaged emotionally and challenged intellectually. I believe that learning is maximized when the student is enjoying the experience, and is faced with challenges appropriate to their skill level. I aim to make learning music fun, choosing musical selections to learn in the style and genre that relate to the student's interests and aspiration.
TECHNIQUE & UNDERSTANDING OF MUSIC THEORY TO BUILD SELF-CONFIDENCE: When my students perform in concerts, recitals, juries, auditions, recording sessions or simply for friends and family, they have self-confidence because they know precisely the "how" and "why" of everything required to perform well. My goal with students is to build a solid foundation in instrumental technique and thorough understanding of Music Theory at their appropriate level.
PERFORMANCE: On a monthly basis, all my students practice performing pieces they are working on during the lesson time, with family/friends as an audience if desired and appropriate, and/or using digital recording to help the student develop a critical ear for their own playing.
*** Studio Equipment *** Music stands, guitar/s and guitar stands, Dynarelle cushion, footrests, Korg 88 fully--weighted digital keyboard, Zoom H4 digital recorder.
As well, I have guitars and equipment both for teaching and performance of various styles, as below. Students will have the opportunity to learn about, play and become familiar with any of these instruments/equipment according to their interests and skill levels.
ROCK: Fender Stratocaster (pre-CBS) Shechter Omen6 Shechter Elite Series C1
FOLK: Martin (steel string) Dobro
JAZZ: Oscar Schmidt by Washburn (hollow body electric) Gibson SG (electric)
AMPS: Fender Twin reverb Pevey practice amp Rock amp
Boss GT8 Effects Pedal
*** Travel Equipment *** Guitar stands, guitar/s, Zoom H4 digital recorder. Generally I do not transport my Korg 88 keyboard to the student's home for lessons, but I can if necessary. However, I do require that piano students have their own piano/keyboard or at least reliable access to one for practice between lessons.
Guitar students should also have their own guitar. I can advise on appropriate instruments and can help students find a suitable guitar for their learning level and price range.

Mauricio has been a perfect fit as a guitar teacher for my ten year old son who, until meeting Mauricio, was totally apathetic about learning an instrument. The list of discared wood winds, strings, & percussion is long... Now my kiddo looks forward to his lessons because of Mauricio. He practices (during the week!!!), and he walks away from his time with Mauricio with the kind of happy grin on his face typically reserved for video games and nachos. Mauricio is ever punctual, solicitous, accommodating, friendly, and kind. We feel very lucky to have him in our lives and couldn't recommend him more highly to others.

My mother hired Mauricio through Take lessons for my 9 year old son. He absolutely progressed every time he saw Mauricio, and had a wonderful time learning and playing with him. He has great technique and a wonderful way of communicating. Thumbs up!!!

Mauricio is a very patient guitar instructor. The instruction my daughter received was her first experience playing any instrument. Her enthusiasm for each lesson was a reflection of Mauricio's enthusiasm to teach. Music is his passion and it was clear to me that his enthusiasm for music was evident in his instruction.

Andrew went above and beyond what I ever expected. He did a great job of covering rudiments and technical aspects, while simultaneously
focusing on the "art" of bass playing. He was very aware of my skill level and responsive to my needs as a student. I highly recommend him for beginners and imagine that he would be great for more skilled students as well"

"Perfect teacher for the passionate student
I've been taking lessons with Daniel for a few months now, and I have thoroughly enjoyed and grew from each le
sson. If you're serious about making music for fun or professionally, he's the teacher for you.
What I like most is how he creates a beneficial and serious learning environment that's still incredibly fun and positive. After a few lessons we were already playing songs together, and he's taught me a more effective way to practice on my own, which was a major problem for me.
As soon as you meet Daniel, you can tell how passionate he is about his craft, and if you display your own passion for music, you will work great together, and you WILL progress. I highly recommend him!"
