Mark H.

La Habra, CA

From being comfortable in front of a group to performing in a musical, I can help the young actor, musician, or presenter to be more confident, have more refined tools, and help develop a passion for successfully performing and accomplishing their acting goals.

About Mark

Classically trained with years of performance and practical experience. I know how to help you make the music that you want to make. I am well-versed in nearly all music styles from classical to contemporary/pop. I am currently active in both piano accompaniment, vocal performance with the Pacific Chorale,
directing a very active north orange county community choir, and directing the choirs and drama department at Tuffree Middle School in Placentia with approximately 150 students in the program.

I recently completed my music credential and have graduate degrees in Education and Music.

I am especially gifted in teaching beginning piano, fundamental vocal production and dramatic presentation. I have extensive experience with the young and beginning acting student and can masterfully explain the dynamics of auditions and performing in the community.

*** Lesson Details ***
I focus on the individual student for curriculum and speed of progress. I utilize Bastien and other music curricula depending on maturity and ability. Within 3 months most students are performing simple songs successfully and within 6 months they have begun to master the more difficult 2nd and 3rd level. I believe in creating opportunities for the student to play in public and successfully perform by playing in small groups and bands. My acting students are taught through monologues and basic acting dynamics along with rehearsing through audition challenges and opportunities in the community.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Separate music room, grand piano, multiple keyboards available.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Professional piano keyboard and sound systems available.

*** Specialties ***
Piano - Foundations, jazz piano, Broadway, easy listening.
Voice - Foundations, breathing, operatic styling, Broadway.

My 10 year old daughter(almost 11) is taking piano lessons. She sings in theater and Mark has her sing along with her playing. She has only taken a few lessons but she loves it and Mark has a great balance of practicing and having fun on the piano.

My son enjoys his time stretching his voice out. While my son's voice hasn't dramatically improved over just a few lessons, his confidence has improved which is most important.

Cymbaline O.

Fullerton, CA

Experience with Meisner and Eric Morris methods of acting. Teach basics, including being natural and oneself in a character, drawing from one's own life experiences and finding emotional connection to a character and situation. Also work on vocal projection, articulation, inflection, and timing, as well as natural movement for theater and film.

About Cymbaline

Cymbaline has been performing all her life. She began dance training at age 5, singing on stage at age 7, piano instruction at age 8, and flute at age 9. She has pursued the performing arts in her training, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music (Vocal Performance and Education) from Azusa Pacific University, as well as a Masters in Education from Grand Canyon University. Cymbaline has been seen on stage in many musical theater productions, including playing Marian in The Music Man, Anna in The King and I, and the Blue Girl in Shout! She has also done theater and film, including playing
Elizabeth Bennet in Pride and Prejudice. She has taught voice, piano, and flute privately, as well as voice and musical theater classes. She has a great desire to pass on the knowledge she has gained through education and experience to anyone who has the desire to learn. She loves seeing students grow in the knowledge of music and performance and learning to apply their new skills. Music is the universal language, and the ability to play and sing will open up new doors of expression for each individual.

*** Lesson Details ***
My students can expect a strict teacher who also shows compassion. I will do everything in my power to help the student grow and achieve. It is up to the student to apply what they are learning so that they can move forward. I teach out of a variety of curriculum, depending on how the student best learns. For flute, I prefer the "Standard of Excellence" series, which, if they are in a band program, can be used for both group and individual study. For piano, the "Alfred" series is a very good tool, with lesson, performance, theory, and compositions books in multiple levels. For voice, I have a number of books that I use to pull material from depending on their level of ability and experience. I teach a classically based curriculum, focusing on correct breathing, posture, and technique. Once a person knows and is able to follow the rules of singing with a quality sound and solid technique, that person may then learn to bend those rules for other styles and genres that require different technique. After three months with me, I expect students, especially instrumental students, to have basic knowledge of reading music. They should be able to recognize notes and rhythms and where they are on the piano keyboard, or how they are fingered on the flute, or where they are (at least approximately) in their voice. I also will expect them to have some understanding and application of dynamics, tempos, time signatures, and other basics of music reading. After six months, I expect them to be able to play or sing one or more short-length songs all the way through correctly and consistently, with musicality. I will focus on details, and not let students who truly want to learn develop their ability in a mediocre capacity. I expect my students to practice, will encourage them to give 100%, and help them strive to be a little better each day than they were the day before.

*** Studio Equipment ***

*** Travel Equipment ***
Keyboard - 88-key/66-key. Flute. Guitar.

*** Specialties ***
I am first a classical singer, and teach classical vocal technique as a foundation to any voice student. I also perform musical theater, and have taught music theater repertoire as a bridge between opera, or classical style singing to more modern forms. I am a dancer and have performed in musicals and operettas, and can teach stage presence, projection, body movement, and facial expression. I studied flute and played in wind ensembles through college. I also have played piano and accompanied for many years.

Jessica G.

Cypress, CA

Teaches the Stanislavski method, which is based on the concept of emotional memory for which an actor focuses internally to portray a character's emotions onstage. Influential acting teachers, including Richard Boleslavsky, Vsevolod Meyerhold, Michael Chekhov, Lee Strasberg, Stella Adler, Harold Clurman, Robert Lewis, Sanford Meisner, Uta Hagen, Ion Cojar, Andrey Vasilyev, Ivana Chubbuck and Christine Anketell all traced their pedigrees to Stanislavski, his theories and/or his disciples. Stanislavski's system is not method acting, it is a classical acting philosophy.

About Jessica

I am a professionally trained, experienced performer from New York. After completing a National Tour with Sesame Street Live, I decided to make the move to Southern California to pursue other aspects of my career. Having been in this business for several years, as a performer as well as part of production teams, I have learned a lot about what is expected from performers, how to hold a career in this business, and other tricks of the trade.
I promise to make sure you learn everything you will need to be successful, whether it be for a career choice or just a hobby, and will use the teaching t

Eulis K.

San Diego, CA

There are many approaches to acting out there, but one constant is that of learning to be in touch with your character. Acting lessons can help you learn methods to take character study step by step, allowing you to open yourself up to free-flowing, improvisational acting, where you feel like you are just "being" the character. This in addition to scene study techniques, vocal diction, character research and development, and other tools, will help you improve your craft one step at a time.

About Eulis

---------- Now teaching in Orange County AND San Diego! ---------

Hello! Thanks for visiting my Takelessons profile. Let me start off by telling you a bit about myself:
I have been performing for about 20 years as a musician, acting since I was a small boy, and working on and off with public speaking, accent reduction and other presentational skills throughout my career. I started my musical education as a woodwind player and settled in to the wonderful world of singing over time. Music has opened me up to so many opportunities from touring the world to performing in marvelous concer
t halls and working with some of today's most revered artists, as well as giving me the opportunity to expand my performance through acting in various plays, musicals, television, and film.

Performing has absolutely been my salvation! It has been a best friend and constant source of joy, and I share this gift with others so that it might help them find the same joy. After more than 10 years of teaching, I have so many new experiences to draw from and share with my students. I've spent my last 7 years performing with Disney in Anaheim and abroad in their Tokyo Disney cast, and I must say that those experiences, vast and varied as they are, have given "performance" a new depth. I'm always excited to dive into every lesson with fresh ideas that will mesh well with many tried and tested teaching techniques.

Originally from Los Angeles, I now reside in Orange County and I'm especially proud to have expanded my studio to San Diego as well! I get such joy from sharing my experiences with the people of this beautiful and inspiring town. If you're interested in learning more about my lesson style, feel free to contact me and I'd be happy to talk with you about a plan to help you reach your goals!

For Students of Voice: Teaching Style

Over the past several years I have focused much of my personal growth on developing my ears' ability to pick out and pinpoint vocal “placement”, resonance, subtleties of timbre, changes in pitch, breath support, air speed and flow, pronunciation and diction, and in general, the way in which all of these work together to create style. From these assessments, I work with the student’s particular needs to address each area individually and based on the learning style of each person.
To illustrate to the student their method as I see and hear it, as well as ways in which they might make changes to facilitate the ease of singing --be they changes of tessitura (range), length of phrase, tone color, the release of unnecessary tension etc.-- I make use of vocalise (vocal exercises), simile and metaphor, examples from recorded performances, demonstration, self assessment, and techniques to “trick” the voice into acting in a different way, in addition to videos, diagrams, and texts on anatomy and physiology. I feel that all of these tools provide a unique and personalized learning experience for each student.

Eulis is simply an amazing vocal coach. He not only identifies any corrections in your voice he actually clearly explains why your voice is behaving a certain way and has many solutions to correct the issue. He is a very patient and personable instructor that makes you feel comfortable, which is especially important if you are self concious about your voice like I am. Definitely saw major improvements while working with Eulis and I'm looking forward to continuing my lessons with him.
