About Aaron
Hello fellow and future musicians, and thanks for checking out my profile!

To tell you a little about myself, I was exposed to music at a very young age since my dad was a musician. I first picked up the drums at the age of 5, and took piano lessons for a year when I was 6. I later played the saxophone in 4th grade, and finally discovered the guitar when I was 9. (Ironic since my dad is a guitarist and the guitar was around the house forever!) He showed me my first chords and really got me started on the instrument, and I played in several local bands in high school playing a range of musical styles from rock, blues, funk, and reggae. I really didn't take music seriously until I was in college, and began studying under Jerry Coelho, a member of the very first graduating class of the Guitar Institute of Technology in Hollywood, CA, and
Dominic Castillo, a graduate of Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, who was a student of Jerry's as well. After studying under these talented musicians, I went on to pursue my education in music and received my BA in Music from San Jose State University in 2004. I started teaching music privately during my time with Jerry and Dominic and continued to teach during college up until the present, and have taught hundreds of students since. I now live in San Diego where I teach, work as a freelance musician, and play in local funk/jazz/rock group Science Fiction Jazz and gypsy/kickstomp outfit Quel Bordel!

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a very easy going, friendly individual who believes that learning music is built upon a strong relationship between teacher and student. This relationship involves good communication, honesty, open mindedness, and most importantly the desire to LEARN and have FUN. I approach teaching music by knowing and understanding the student's musical goals, and teaching fundamentals, theory, and technique through the style(s) of music that the student wants to learn. For beginners, I tend to teach basic techniques and chords through simple songs to get the student playing music as quickly as possible.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Living Room: couches, table and TV, music stand, student can borrow instrument for first lesson, parents can sit in on lesson

*** Specialties ***
My main musical styles that I perform and teach are rock, blues, jazz, funk, R&B, and reggae. I studied jazz in college so I also have extensive knowledge of jazz theory.

About Edwin
Hello! Thank you for your interest in taking guitar/piano/music lessons.

I am a professional teacher/studio musician/performer/producer with over 20 years of private teaching experience and a graduate of the University of Miami Studio Music and Jazz program in 2002 specializing in the guitar.

I am available to teach guitar(acoustic, electric, classical) for all levels, ages, and styles(pop to folk, rock to soul, world to classical) in English, Spanish and Japanese.

Other subjects taught include bass guitar, piano/keyboard, ukulele, banjo, mandolin, harmonium, classical percussion, music theory, composition(all styles from pop to classical), ear training, and studio production/engineering/mixing.

Born in Cali, Colombia on April 1979, I began my musical endeavors studying the piano at the age of 6. Early on I had the opportunit
y to play percussion in the school symphony while at the same time developed an intense interest in the instrument that would become my true love, the guitar.

During 1996-98 I studied jazz guitar at the New World School of the Arts music program under the direction of J.B. Dyas and Dr. Roby George. Upon graduation, I was immediately accepted to the University of Miami jazz guitar program under the direction of Randall Dollahan. It was during this time that I also refined my skills as a classical guitarist and as a composer/arranger. In addition, I began passing my knowledge onto friends and eventually began working as a teacher.

My ability to play almost any genre of music is the fruit of past experience playing with an impressive variety of music groups, including jazz combos, symphony orchestras, Andean world music ensembles, and several rock and pop groups as well. As a studio guitarist I have recorded for various artists including Jaci Velasquez, Carlos Ponce, Alexandre Pires, and Noelia.

Every one of you is unique and there are many possible paths to reach your goals in music.

With my background and music industry experience, I am able to customize my lessons for you so that you can reach your desired goals. We will take some time to find out where your passion lies in music and I will use my experience and knowledge to create a customized lesson-plan that will allow us to focus on reaching your desired goals and at the same time maintain a well rounded music education.

I find this to be key in making the lessons and your practice sessions very enjoyable, fun and laid back - knowing that everything we practice, play and talk about is in line with your goals as a student.

I will also be playing along with you and demonstrating everything that we're working on - music is meant to be shared and played with others and it is important to have that experience of interaction from early on in your lessons.

So whether it's learning to accompany yourself or others, write songs, read music, understand harmony, solo, or just jam out to your favorite songs, you will be well on your way to reaching your goals within 6 months of my lessons.

Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to play recognizable Bluegrass tunes. First, starting off with simple arrangments and then building as you become more advanced. I typically use "You Can Teach Yourself Banjo" It breaks everything down and gets you up and running very quickly. I love working with students of all ages and experience levels and I can't wait to meet you!

About Eric
Hi,

Welcome to my TL's profile!

If you're looking at this site, you're already on your way to becoming an AWESOME musician! Whether this is your first attempt at music lessons or you've been playing for a while and trying to improve your skills, I'm EXCITED about working with you. I am a professional music educator and performer that has a passion for music and teaching. I will gear each lesson to fit your musical interests and playing level, while I encourage and motivate. My goal is to use proven teaching methods and a supportive learning environment to help you realize your musical potential, as well as having FUN while doing it.

Here's some background about myself, to help you decide if I'm a good fit as your new instructor.

I come from a family of musicians. Began guitar lessons at age five as the Beatles were in
vading the American music scene. I grew up in New Jersey, performing in rock bands until becoming interested in classical guitar. With New York City only a short bus ride away, I spent as much time as possible in the city, studying guitar with Russian born Classical Guitarist, Dr. Alexander Bellow, and Jazz Legend "Bucky" Pizzarelli. During this time, I attended recitals of such notables as Andre Segovia, Julian Bream and John Williams. Being immersed in this musical scene inspired me to make music my life.

Earned a degree in Classical Guitar Performance from the Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford, where I studied under the direction of guitar pedagogue, Richard Provost. While at Hartt and shortly after, I performed in numerous Master Classes for internationally acclaimed artists such as Manuel Barrueco, Christopher Parkening, Oscar Ghiglia, Michael Lorimer, and Carlos Barbosa-Lima.

I have taught guitar at the college level for over twenty years teaching on the music faculties of University of Central Florida, Rollins College, Stetson University, Bethune Cookman College, Florida Southern College, and St. Leo College. I taught private guitar lessons, class guitar, and guitar ensemble

I have appeared hundreds times at Disney and Sea World as well as other venues around Central Florida. My experience includes performing solo and in small groups. I have also performed with rock groups, stage bands, folk groups, classical ensembles, jazz combos, Broadway shows, operas, as well as solo recitals, and concerto appearances.

Throughout the years I have had many unique experiences while performing. One of my favorites being the opportunity to play the MASH theme song for Alan Alda as well as other stars in attendance at a cast party for the TV show, Win, Lose or Draw at EPCOT Center.

Although I enjoy performing, I considers teaching music to be highly gratifying. The importance of giving students a good foundation with the proper technique and performance skills cannot be underestimated. When a student can play a song from beginning to end with style and confidence you know you've given them a gift that will offer them enjoyment for the rest of their lives.

I found Zach through 'take lessons' after my daughter had a few years with an intense classical pianist. I want my daughter to have fun and appreciate music and not feel the intense pressure she was feeling with our previous instructor. Zach was the perfect choice. My daughter loves her lessons. Zach does take time off for his professional endevors. Good for him. He has always let us know and connected with us when he returns.

I'm comfortable teaching the banjo in a variety of styles but will typically start in Bluegrass. I can teach both Scruggs style finger picking and basic to intermediate Clawhammer. My comfort zone is higher in the Scruggs style of playing however.

I also teach beginning to advanced Irish Tenor Banjo (GDAE Tuning) and Tenor Banjo (CGDA Tuning). Though it looks similar to the 5-string bluegrass banjo, the Irish Tenor Banjo and Tenor have only 4 strings and are played with a traditional guitar pick (a "plectrum" - though a "plectrum" banjo is tuned different then these other 2) and strummed rather then plucked with individual fingers.

I can teach the Plectrum Banjo as well (CGBD Tuning) but will be teaching you on a 5 string banjo that I only play with four strings.

About Jared
I am overjoyed and grateful to say I have been playing music for more than half of my life. It has never stopped being the light in my day and now it is my hope to shed some of that light onto you or your child. I am a very friendly and fun teacher with a great deal of professionalism and patience, even more importantly I love teaching and music with a passion.

I have been playing an instrument since the 4th grade (cello) and, as I learned more about how music works, was slowly able to pick-up a greater variety instruments with an increasing degree of ease. In high school, I decided to pick-up the guitar just to "have fun and rock out". I joined a band, played in the high school orchestra, joined the high school jazz band and began to practice songwriting and cover songs. Still, it was not until after I took my first class on music the
ory that I knew how much I not only loved the thrill of playing music but the discovery of how it worked. With this experience I can show you or your child why learning an instrument can be not only an exciting experience but an interesting and enthralling one as well.

I have been teaching music for over 7 years and have had the privilege of teaching children as young as 4 to adults in their late 80's. I am a very attentive teacher who can not only help get you moving in the right direction but keep you on that path until your are a self-sufficient musician. A level of musicianship that simply means you can learn whatever you want on your instrument on your own, whether it be for business, pleasure or for mere self-improvement.

Through my own student career in private lessons I had the chance to study with graduates of the Musician's Institute (MI), the California Institute of the Arts (CAL Arts) and Berklee College of Music. This has provided me with an inside look into how and what each institute teaches, as well as a first hand look at the techniques and ideas that the great players from these remarkable schools have come to produce.

My formal music education consists of 2 years at Pasadena City College where I obtained my general Associates Degree (much of the studies included music) and a semester at California State University Long Beach as a Jazz Guitar Performance Major. Additionally, I completed a great deal of California State University Long Beach's teaching credential program (focusing on the teaching of history/social studies), where I learned strategies and theories of how and what to teach my students - making me that much more knowledgable of my craft. At Pasadena City College I studied with jazz/classical guitarist, Ron Berman, who has played with such jazz greats as Herb Ellis and Jimmy Wyble. At Cal State Long Beach I studied with jazz guitarist Ron Eschete, a former teacher at MI who has toured with the likes of Ray Brown, John Dizzy Gillespie and Jim Hall.

Most importantly I hope to show you or your child a new way to love and appreciate music. And to provide you with the ability and know-how to have the most fun on your instrument as possible.

*** Lesson Details ***
Throughout my lessons, I always encourage basic skills including scales, sight-reading and technical exercises. But what I hope to give all my students is a basic understanding of music and their instrument, providing them with a practical ability to navigate the vast world of music for a lifetime.

Beyond these skills, I always have songs, styles and theory for you to work on but I am often more interested in what you as an individual want to learn on your instrument. Getting to learn concepts that you have chosen yourself will help encourage practice and will make the finished product all the more the rewarding.

I can custom tailor a teaching curriculum and/or style for any of my students: we can focus on learning songs, learning to read, how to write music, how music works, and even how to play specific styles of music (including funk, rock, jazz, Latin, flamenco, classical, country and blues). I also self tailor my own worksheets and set weekly goals with my students to help encourage practice, understanding and progress. For students interested in more advanced concepts, I can also teach ear training, music theory, advanced jazz improvisation as well as advanced playing techniques.

All this in a friendly and easy-going teaching environment.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Located in my home garage, it is equipped with a small stage, an upright piano, an electric keyboard, a PA system, amplifiers, a drum set, a lap steel guitar, a pedal steel guitar, 2 cellos, multiple guitars, 3 mandolins, a dobro, a 5-string banjo, a 4-string tenor banjo, 2 ukuleles, 2 accordions and 2 electric basses.

*** Specialties ***
Styles: Jazz, Rock, Reggae, Metal, Funk, Progressive Rock, Classical, Folk, Bluegrass, Country, Various forms of Latin Music, Blues, and a few others.

Instruments Beginner to Advanced: Drums, Accordion, Piano, Guitar, Mandolin, Cello, Banjo (5 String), Irish Tenor Banjo (4 String GDAE), Tenor Banjo (4 String CGDA), Electric Bass, Ukulele, Dobro, Lap Steel Guitar (6 String C6 Tuning), Slide Guitar, Pedal Steel Guitar (10 String E9 Tuning).

I've had three banjo teachers over the past two and a half years. Judging by Jared's performance today, he's the best of the lot. The first banjo teacher expected too much too soon, and the second one started me out with the basics, as if I had never picked up a banjo before. Jared is starting our lessons at the right stage for where I am. He's patient and explains things well. If I had started with him two and a half years ago, I'd be a decent banjo player by now. Thanks, Jared!!!!!

My number one goal when working with someone new is to have my student able to play their first song within their first 2 lessons, regardless of age or ability. When working with a new student I also find it very important that we discuss the students musical goals for the instrument, whether they are long or short term goals. From there, I determine a structured lesson plan based on the individual's needs and music experience.

About Hannah
I was introduced to the world of music at the age of four when my mother, an accomplished violinist, placed a violin in my hands. I have been playing the violin for 23 years and throughout those years developed an interest in pursuing many instruments in the string family. Teaching music is my passion and being able to share that passion with others is what makes my job truly rewarding. Through my years of teaching I have had the pleasure of working with students of all ages and abilities. As a dedicated and experienced teacher I understand that every individual learns music differently. My teaching method is based on differentiated instruction. I enjoy discovering, creating and applying custom learning styles during the course of my private lessons. I believe communication is an essential skill when it comes to teaching not only to stude
nts but also parents.

When it comes to learning a new talent, I believe that patience and consistency is key. Before working with a new student or family, I find it important that we discuss the student's interests and goals for the instrument. From there, I determine a structured lesson plan based on the individual's needs and musical experience. I teach many different musical styles including classical, folk, bluegrass, celtic, pop, etc.

During the course of private music lessons my students will learn basic to advanced instrumental techniques, songs, scales, sight-reading, and basic music theory. I also prepare many of my students for musical examinations, auditions and live performances.

I am new to TakeLessons.com but have been teaching for many years. Here is what some people have had to say about me.

"Hannah was an absolute pleasure to work with. My son took violin lessons with her from 6th grade until his junior year. She is a wonderful teacher who is both knowledgeable and patient as well as having an excellent rapport with her students. I would highly recommend Hannah for any age group of student."
-Michelle A. March 6, 2018

"Hannah , does a great job teaching students of all ages. I am an adult student and have been taking violin lessons for 3 years. She challenges me and pushes for improvement. Hannah focuses on intonation and proper technique. The Suzuki method is taught along with a variety of other music genres - bluegrass, Christmas & popular. Have enjoyed taking lessons each week."
-Patty C. March 5, 2018

"Hannah is an amazing musician who is also great at teaching what she knows. She’s professional, yet personal and friendly. She has also become a great friend and I will be forever grateful to Hannah for teaching both my daughter and I something we will carry and cherish for the rest of our lives".
-Susana C. February 22, 2018

"We found Hannah about 3 years ago when my third grade daughter wanted to start violin lessons. Now in 6th grade, my daughter still loves playing violin, and Hannah has been an incredible teacher and mentor. Hannah is a skilled musician, who also understands how to connect with students. She has high expectations while offering unwavering encouragement and support. She has nurtured our daughter's passion for music, and we are go grateful that she has been a part of her musical journey."

"Ms. Hannah has been teaching my son for about 9 months. He began violin lessons right before his fifth birthday. Ms. Hannah is very patient with him in lessons and he adores her. In addition, she works with us and coaches us on how we can practice at home. We have seen so much progress this year, and we are excited to see how far he can go with Ms. Hannah’s help".

"Hannah has taught me violin for 9 years. Under her guidance and instruction I improved so much I auditioned for and was accepted to the Mastery Orchestra at my high school. Lessons with Hannah have always been engaging, and she has the ability to reveal problem areas without being discouraging. I highly recommend her teaching."

"Mrs. Hannah, as we call her, is an outstanding instructor and has a precious heart. Her teaching style is one of comfort - she “reads” each student and teaches at the perfect pace for each individual, she is sweet, full of joy and always patient. We are incredibly thankful to have found her as an instructor."

"I've been taking violin from Hannah for almost a year and it has been amazing! Starting the violin at age 55+ was exciting but anxiety producing but Hannah made me feel from the first moment that I could do this. She is an awesome teacher and is so talented herself! I have learned so much and could not ask for a better experience."

"Very pleased with Mrs. F. My daughter & I know Hannah for 2 years since she's still Ms. Jones until she got married and become Mrs. F. Mrs. F. aren't just sharing the love of music but she share love and care for my daughter. My daughter loves to go to her Violin lessons. She is very excited and happy every time she gets to learn with Hannah. She started to practice and work hard with Hannah's guidance since 2014. She enjoy learning process and I am so happy to see her progressing so well. Hannah's personality, high professional and communication very well with parents and she will come out of the room to greet & meet and talk to you before the lesson and after the lesson she will always give you an update about your child learning and what they're working on for the next level. Hannah is a very dedicated music teacher if you are looking to hire someone to teach your kids; look no further. Hannah is the one. She's very sweet, kind, care and very friendly. My daughter has improved so much since start learning with Hannah. She made it to become a Concert Master at Georgia Youth Symphony Orchestra (GYSO) and also made it to Honor Orchestra 2016. I couldn't be any happier than this. My daughter loves of violin has grown so much over years of practices with Hannah. I can't thanks her enough for what she has made my daughter become very successful.
Thank you so much Hannah."

Hannah is a very patient and supportive teacher, and my daughter, who has taken violin lessons for over a year now, absolutely loves practicing every day on her own, in adddition to her lessons with Hannah. I attribute this to Hannah’s gifted skills as a teacher and her ability to tap into the unique talent and potential in each student. She’s a natural teacher, and very gifted in her education of young people.

My family has worked with many different instructors. Hannah ranks amongst the best of them. I am particularly impressed by her patience and the words of encouragement she uses regularly during my son’s lessons with her. (I’ve had the opportunity to overhear her with a couple of other students, and she is the same with them.) We’re so lucky to have found her!

Offering lessons on beginner to advanced banjo, basic to intermediate guitar, and basic mandolin and upright bass. I include a recording of every lesson using state of the art equipment including an amazing array of microphones from Ear Trumpet Labs and Zylia! I am endorsed by ETL and The Deering Banjo Company.

About Jesse
I have a long track record of teaching in the realm of acoustic music. Beginning in 2010 (while living in Rhode Island) I decided to share my knowledge of stringed instruments as a traveling music teacher. Through the years of performing in various bluegrass outfits, I have always had students eager to learn how to begin or advance their skills in stringed instruments through one on one lessons, coaching, and jamming with others. During the 2015-2016 school year I held the position of Music Therapist In Residence at the CITE School in Providence, RI working with developmentally challenged and disabled students, which allowed me greater insight into different coaching and music education techniques. I am currently endorsed by Ear Trumpet Labs of Portland, OR and The Deering Banjo Company.

If you're looking to start fresh, brush up, or
get some coaching/advice on advanced improvisation techniques on the banjo, we can get it done together! If you're ready to start down the road and learn the rudiments of guitar, mandolin, or upright bass, we can start that journey. If you're trying to figure out where you fit in in a jam situation: let's find you a spot!

In addition to these education services I also provide a recording of each lesson using a variety of state of the art equipment, including Ear Trumpet Labs microphones and the Zylia Mobile Recording Studio. I look forward to hearing from you, and hope that we can work together to unlock your inner musician.

Jesse is extremely talented and an excellent teacher. He is very patient and encouraging in his teaching style. He knows banjo and how to motivate his students. Establishing a strong foundation is the basis of his teaching method. Everything builds on this solid foundation.
