Lessons will be designed to help you reach your personal goals and take your playing to the next level. LisaJo brings more than 40 years of private studio experience to her students.
Steeped with knowledge of music history, theory and composition, LisaJo has a Bachelor of Music Education from Eastern Illinois University, and extensive orchestral-performance experience as a violinist and conductor. During the past 40 years, she has developed her abilities as a diagnostician of obstacles in the musical learning process--both cognitive and physical.
While teaching students from age eight through adult, and enjoying all of them, LisaJo has become a recognized teacher of of the adult beginner and adult restart. She takes a very individualized approach with her students, recognizing technical and emotional components to each individual's learning process.
Although she has studied with teachers from various other violin lineages, her technique is based on the teaching of Carl Flesch and Ivan Galamian.

I have been playing viola for 17 years and teaching violin, viola, and cello for 8 years. I graduated from the University of West Florida in 2016 with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance - Viola. My viola instructor was Dr. Leonid Yanovskiy, current and former concert master of the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra, Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra, and many others.
While earning my degree, I also learned how to play violin and cello and am able to teach them up to an intermediate level.
My teaching ideology is that ANYONE can learn an instrument at any age. I have taught students as young as 4 and as old as 65! Many adult students of mine have expressed difficulty and even shame in trying to find a teacher for them who would take them on, simply because they were starting as an adult.
We don't have to train for the symphony (unless you want to!); your goals are my goals and I will help you reach them!

Lessons are tailored to fit each individual student's ability and goals. I believe in challenging students while maintaining a supportive and encouraging environment. Lessons will cover music theory, technique, and solo pieces. The goal is to develop in each student the specific skills needed to play a string instrument as well as to nurture an understanding and love for music.
Lessons take place at my apartment in Southeast Denver, near Hampden and I-25. Students are expected to prepare for and participate annual studio recitals.

The violin has been a constant and enriching presence throughout my life, and I enjoy helping people engage with this instrument that is demanding and rewarding in equal measure. No matter your age or level of expertise, I would be happy to help you along as you discover new musical territory. I’m most fluent in the classical style, but am happy to explore other areas with you as well, from bluegrass to Broadway.

Patient and encouraging violin teacher of 6+ years available for eager students of all experience levels and ages! I structure my lessons so students learn what they want to learn, while also building a strong foundation in violin technique. I specialize in child and adult beginners, typically use the Essential Elements books, and also have the following tools available to use during lessons: sheet music, piano accompaniment, fun tips and tricks for building technique and more!
