Knowing at the age of 5 that music was my life, by being brought up surrounded by praise music and gospel, my early exposure to music helped me to find every Instrument and style just my thing! I wanted to play everything and learn all aspects of music. I started with singing in the children's choir and then developed into piano and music theory. At the age of 12 I began to learn classical guitar, and at 15 took on various styles like Flamenco, Jazz and Rock. I graduated from High School having played in the school band achieving recognition In national Institutions Like IAJE (International Association for Jazz Education) and state band finals. I was also composing from a very early age, and at 18 released my first album (self-titled) which can still be heard and purchased today through various music outlets, since i have released over 15
albums with various ensembles and bands. In college I already knew from my previous experience that I wanted to teach and pass on the joy that music brought to my life. I studied Music Theory and Jazz and finished my degree in Music Education. I have been teaching all in all for about 14 yrs. And I have enjoyed every minute I have spent with my students learning as much from them, as them from me. I am looking forward to meeting new and eager students who really want to bring their inner music out to share with the rest of us music aficionados! and develop their skills to the peak of their abilities.

*** Lesson Details ***
My teaching method ranges depending on the student. I believe in my experience that everyone learns differently, therefore everyone develops at their own pace. I try to find key strengths in each student and expose this to their advantage, using their abilities to further develop their skills, this method has shown the most promising results and students usually find themselves playing and performing just a couple of months after their first lessons. Part of my method involves a lot of performance and recital opportunities to help break any fears and inhibitions a student may bring with them. Music is about sharing, so an early exposure to this method helps to strengthen and stabilize a core acceptance of a students style and path, giving them and those close to them a very clear picture of their development and achievements.

If you needed a reason

There is no question that music touches us instantly and activates images, emotions and memories that linger with us throughout our lives. As a casual listener or an obsessive music elitist, there are times in our lives when we get blown away by a sound so unique our entire body vibrates and resonates with the touch of something out of this world. I can honestly say when this happens to me I feel as close to a spiritual connection than anything I have experienced otherwise. I believe it is these exact events that have triggered my need to be completely involved in the making, performing and consuming of music. The creative process, to me, is the single obvious reason we exist in this world. We create and share, learn and interpret, build on previous ideas and inspire others to perfect upon this process. It is no doubt a very humbling experience to realize you are part of it all. During this process you come to realize how important you are as an Individual, how there is no other vessel like you in this world, nor has there ever been or ever will. You are here now and your voice, your talent, your gift is an instrument to the great choir of the human spirit. No one but you can relate this, a reason to be, to create, to give.

Lesley is an accomplished classically trained operatic soprano at the beginning of her career. Lesley grew up all over the United States, attending high school in Tennessee where she was very active in high school theatre, playing roles like Aunt Eller in Oklahoma! and Glinda in The Wizard of Oz. Lesley currently sings operatic repertoire ranging from Mozart to Bernstein and loves new composers and exploring new music. My theatre roles include: The Witch in Sondheim's Into the Woods, Aunt Eller in Rodgers & Hammerstein's Oklahoma!, Marion Hollander in Woody Allen's Don't Drink the Water, Glinda in The Wizard of Oz, Lucy in You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown, and Bobby's Mother in Gershwin's Crazy For You.

I am also featured on Albany Records release of Signor Deluso in the role I performed with the Opera Company of Brooklyn. I have performed the soprano solos in Verdi's Requiem, Faure's Requiem, and Gounod's St Cecilia Mass. Recently I worked closely with Stephen Schwartz - creator of the hit Broadway musical Wicked to create the starring role, Myra Foster, in his first opera - Seance on a Wet Afternoon.

In 2010 I was a Metropolitan Opera National Council Semi-Finalist. I claimed third place and the Wagner award in the Orpheus National Vocal Competition. I was also recognized for excellence with the Benefactor's Award in the Saritelli DiPanni Bel Canto Vocal Scholarship Fund as well as being a semi-finalist in the 2009 Jensen Competition. I enjoyed participating in NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing) for many years, placing every year in college, and taking home first prize senior year. In my junior year, I won my entire division for the Eastern Regional NATS competitions. I also participated in the All State choirs for 3 years in high school, taking first chair soprano 1 in my senior year, and being awarded a solo.

My students have received college scholarships, advanced in national competitions, and had successful auditions in both classical and broadway style singing. My students have performed in musicals, plays, choirs, and operas. I look forward to exploring your voice with you!

I have been a voice, acting, and teacher of creative arts for over 25 years. My background includes ten years of classical voice training with Maestro Julio Berrocal, as well as vocal training through the Feldenkrais approach with Marcy Lindhiemer. Voice
I am an empathetic teacher, sensitive to the student's individual process of learning. My singing lessons usually start with breathing and relaxation exercises. Vocal technique exercises come next. When the student is fully warmed up, we will begin to work on songs. It is important that students be a part of the process of picking material since the more personally they respond to the material the more apt they are to become engaged in their lessons. After three to six months beginning students will have gained an understanding of the fundamentals of breathing, relaxation, and basic performance skills. With more advanced students the focus will be on range extension and the on-going development of vocal style through song interpretation and performance related exercises.
Acting
As an acting teacher and coach, I tailor my classes to the needs of each student. I utilize improvisatory and sensory techniques to help unleash spontaneity. I also encourage the students to use their personal experiences as a way to access a full range of emotions. I enjoy working with the student on script analysis, so as to discover the underlying motivations of the character the student is working on.
Creative and Lyric Writing
I use prompts as a way to get the student writing. Often, I will ask the student to write for stretches of time without editing themselves. It is important to unleash imagination before beginning the process of editing. Many times it is the unexpected that is the most compelling.

A native of Charlotte, NC, Zachary began his musical career as a tuba player and jazz bass guitarist. While attending The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Zachary began singing in various vocal groups on campus and developed his love for the singing voice. With encouragement from the music faculty, Zachary began training as an operatic baritone while at UNC. While attending UNC, Zachary was awarded both the Fischer Scholarship in Voice and the Tony McDowell Voice Scholarship. His singing brought him to Boston in the summer of 2010 to begin study at The Boston Conservatory. While performing various opera roles and attending summer programs, Zachary also opened his private studio and taught at a local music academy.

Baritone Zachary B. is quickly establishing himself as an active operatic performer. Equally at home on the recital stage, his versatile lyric baritone voice fits a wide range of repertoire and styles. A graduate of The Boston Conservatory, Zachary has performed roles like the titular role in Don Giovanni, Ramiro in L'Heure Espagnole, L'horloge comtoise in L'Enfant et les sortileges, Pooh-Bah in The Mikado, and Bob in The Old Maid and the Thief.

Starting in February 2013, Zachary will also be available through TakeLessons for online instruction. Lessons will still focus on energy, breath, and solid technique, so please contact him if you think this venue of instruction will be a good fit!

Regardless of your background, I believe in making lessons fun, encouraging, and accessible. This means that my work with you will, by nature, be incredibly personal and always formulated for your specific musical goals. I believe every singing or speaking voice can benefit from a foundation in classical vocal technique. Whether you prefer to learn through singing songs or through various exercises, I can customize our lesson plan to fit your needs. Therefore, I provide a fun and engaging lesson atmosphere, but you need to bring your best as well! We will both be happier with the process if we are equally invested in your growth. We will start with something you already know (an aria, vocal exercise, or excerpt from a song) and work toward singing in your preferred vocal style. For example, classical singers will build their knowledge of English, German, Italian, and French diction and song styles. Along the way, I am happy to address basic music theory ideas. If you prefer, we can also spend additional time reviewing and learning those principles to enrich your musical experience. I will always provide different exercises and ideas to keep your brain active in the singing process.

I believe in whole body, whole spirit singing. As a performer, I employ a variety of holistic exercises and theories to develop my own voice, such as basic Alexander Technique principles, voice therapy techniques, a variety of pedagogical palates, and energy work. If these sorts of things interest you, I am more than happy to incorporate them into our lessons. My personal results with those practices have been incredible, so I am always eager to share.

My personality is outgoing and energetic, so I bring that sort of atmosphere to a lesson. I expect preparedness and readiness on your part to maximize our work together. Patrick is the Organ teacher I should have had when I was a kid. Thankfully, I found him in this lifetime!
I'm a decent piano player who has lacked confidence in my play and music skills. I have just started to play Pipe Organ at my church and i needed someone's help.

Patrick's unlocking knowledge that I didn't realize was in my head and adding to it, the missing pieces in a way that no teacher has ever been able to do before (and I've had more than a handful of instructors for music). I have a degree in Music too.

He is Extremely patient and warm with a great sense of humor and compassion for any person over the age of 5. ( I believe he can teach around that age too)

Lessons are very well organized with just the right amount of information given out in any one sitting. He takes into account the goals and background of each client he works with and customizes what the focus will be. For me, I needed a immediate answer. I am not so patient. My lesson time is a slightly different than others. lol Sorry Patrick.

Marcelle is a wonderful teacher. She always makes you feel comfortable, listens to your concerns, and gives great tips/ways into establishing a good technique. I had lessons with her over the summer, and in that little time I felt like I'd grown a lot. That fall, I auditioned for a show at my university that made me sing in a style I've never been comfortable with. It was a really strenuous process and nearly all of the singers strained their voices. My voice adapted because I had a great foundation.

“play” and to discover how to both lean in and tap in to what is there and then develop relaxation, ease and focus on the task at hand - a monologue, an audition, a speech or working with a text. In addition to teaching and coaching actors, I have worked extensively in the corporate worlds in areas of Voice, Speech and Presentation as a coach and have taught group classes on Public Speaking and Presentation. I have taught and coached students from China, Russia, Taiwan, Italy, Japan in addition to the U.S. Throughout the ten plus years that I have been teaching, I have helped both actors and non-actors, those in the professional business world, gain tools that lead to freedom and ease of expression when speaking in front of others, be it at an audition, an interview, giving a presentation to a board or speaking in front of thousands at a Ted Talk.

Claire is a professional. She is a natural born teacher who immediately clicked with my son. She gave him the tools he needed for an upcoming audition at a theatre conservatory. Anyone from beginner to dedicated professional would benefit from private lessons with her. We feel very lucky we found her with so many less qualified people out there.

Corliss is a master at her craft! She makes you feel comfortable from the moment you meet her and has a genuine interest in your goals. Corliss tailored lessons to my learning style which was very encouraging for someone with my level of experience. She has a lovely personality and her enthusiasm is infectious. I took a five-session Beginning Voice Acting class with Corliss in a professional recording studio. The critiques she gave me after every recording I made helped me to speak more clearly, and to increase the energy I was able to put into my recorded presentations. Without the critiques of my recordings, I would not have been able to improve my speaking ability. During the class, she made sure everyone in the class was made to feel welcome, and important. When I take the next level of the Voice Acting class series, I will be looking forward her critiques of my recorded presentations.

I recently took lessons with Corliss and couldn’t have been happier! From the minute I walked in the door for the first lesson, Corliss was energetic and enthusiastic. I found her instruction relative to breathing techniques, warm up exercises and copy interpretation extremely valuable in helping me to relax and “think outside of the box,” which enabled me to think more creatively while also helping to identify my own areas of strength and those requiring further development. Hi! I am a private music instructor offering lessons both in-studio and online. I hold a Bachelor of Music Degree from Berklee College of Music, where I graduated Summa cum Laude, and I have over 36 years' full-time experience as an instructor.

I also have over four decades of experience as a professional jazz, rock, and theater musician. My experience has taken me from nightclubs to concert stages to churches, as well as television studios, radio stations, and many recording studios.

Finally, I am a published author with several titles dedicated to helping musicians becoming the best they can be.

**** MY TEACHING STYLE ****

My teaching style is often referred to as laid-back, gentle, informative, and very supportive. My focus is on enrichment, encouragement, and results.

I don't work with “one-size-fits-all” methods. Ea
ch lesson is customized to make the most of each student's own unique abilities, limitations, preferences, and interests. Whether students prefer, or do better with, traditional materials, playing/singing along with their favorite recordings, improvisation, or anything in between, I am more than happy to accommodate and bring out each student’s best!

I teach real music -- students begin playing music they love almost from day-one. For example, many of my piano and guitar students pride themselves on learning to play every song on the Beatles One album ... playing right along with the CD! Reading, playing by ear, improvisation (jamming), singing while you play ... there are so many ways to play and avenues to explore in music.

**** MY STUDIO ****

My studio is spacious (very spacious – no cubicles here!), well-appointed, and very quiet. Unlike music stores and multi-lesson facilities, there are no other lessons on the premises, no drummers going crazy on the other side of the wall. This means students can concentrate better and learn faster. There is also plenty of room for parents and siblings who may wish to sit in on lessons.

**** STYLES / GENRES ****

I believe that students make the most progress learning music they love and I am very happy to teach every student the style of music he or she loves most.

My most requested genres are: pop, rock, country, blues, classic rock, jazz, and classical. Some students arrive knowing exactly what they want, but most are happy to explore various styles that interest them in search of the perfect fit. It is not at all uncommon for a student to spend part of their lesson polishing up a Beethoven piece or jazz standard, then finish up playing the chords to “Hotel California” along with the CD. Another student might start off their lesson learning a Taylor Swift hit, then move over to doing some blues improvisation. Variety is a wonderful thing and it is highly encouraged!

**** MY STUDENTS ****

Over the years, I have taught students from four years old to eighty-somethings. I’ve taught absolute beginners (most of my students start from square-one), hobbyists, seasoned professionals, even a Grammy nominee and a Grammy winner! Many of my young students have gone on to perform in school bands / jazz bands and/or professionally. In all cases, they acquire a skill that will last for a lifetime and provide joy, enrichment, and satisfaction.

I have just started guitar lessons with Stan and the lessons are going very well. It's exciting to be learning note reading which is something I have always wanted to do. Stan is thorough and clear in his instructions and I look forward to each lesson. I feel lucky to have Stan as my teacher.
