About Aaron
Hello fellow and future musicians, and thanks for checking out my profile!

To tell you a little about myself, I was exposed to music at a very young age since my dad was a musician. I first picked up the drums at the age of 5, and took piano lessons for a year when I was 6. I later played the saxophone in 4th grade, and finally discovered the guitar when I was 9. (Ironic since my dad is a guitarist and the guitar was around the house forever!) He showed me my first chords and really got me started on the instrument, and I played in several local bands in high school playing a range of musical styles from rock, blues, funk, and reggae. I really didn't take music seriously until I was in college, and began studying under Jerry Coelho, a member of the very first graduating class of the Guitar Institute of Technology in Hollywood, CA, and
Dominic Castillo, a graduate of Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, who was a student of Jerry's as well. After studying under these talented musicians, I went on to pursue my education in music and received my BA in Music from San Jose State University in 2004. I started teaching music privately during my time with Jerry and Dominic and continued to teach during college up until the present, and have taught hundreds of students since. I now live in San Diego where I teach, work as a freelance musician, and play in local funk/jazz/rock group Science Fiction Jazz and gypsy/kickstomp outfit Quel Bordel!

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a very easy going, friendly individual who believes that learning music is built upon a strong relationship between teacher and student. This relationship involves good communication, honesty, open mindedness, and most importantly the desire to LEARN and have FUN. I approach teaching music by knowing and understanding the student's musical goals, and teaching fundamentals, theory, and technique through the style(s) of music that the student wants to learn. For beginners, I tend to teach basic techniques and chords through simple songs to get the student playing music as quickly as possible.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Living Room: couches, table and TV, music stand, student can borrow instrument for first lesson, parents can sit in on lesson

*** Specialties ***
My main musical styles that I perform and teach are rock, blues, jazz, funk, R&B, and reggae. I studied jazz in college so I also have extensive knowledge of jazz theory.

Thank you for visiting my profile!

As a professional musician, I have played in various ensembles including orchestras, opera companies, wind ensembles, chamber groups, musicals and more. The Brooklyn Conservatory Community Orchestra (BCCO), presenting 3-5 concerts a year, has been my orchestral home since 2013 and I have had the privilege of playing principal oboe with them all throughout.

As a music educator I have years of experience teaching privately and in classrooms, for individuals and groups. I craft lessons to the needs and interests of each student, to ensure they are getting the most out of our time together. Many of my students enjoy, for example, video game and TV show music - so, these pieces are some of the repertoire we'll work on together. My goals as a teacher are to instill proper playing technique, guide how to
shape the music, establish good practice habits, and above all find ways to connect students with the music they're studying. At the end of the day, we play music because it's fun!

Degrees:
Master's in Music Performance, NYU
Bachelor's in Music Education, The College of New Jersey

*** Equipment ***
Students should own/rent their instrument, assigned methods book(s)/sheet music, reeds, reed soaking container (for oboe), a music stand, neck strap (saxes)

*** Specialties ***
Beginner to advanced students, note reading, phrase shaping, aural skills through "repeat after me" and playing together.

***Lessons Offered***
Oboe
Flute
Clarinet
Tenor Sax
Alto Sax

Thanks again for visiting, I hope to hear from you soon!

About Lisa
I am a Colorado Native with a Music Degree from the University of Denver. I started playing the violin in elementary school and never stopped! I picked up the Viola in college. I enjoy playing that as well.
I have been teaching group classes for the Cherry Creek School district for over 10 years and love that. I have been teaching private lessons for over 10 years as well. Both are challenging in very different ways.
I enjoy watching my students learn and grow through music.
I love playing with an orchestra and playing with a quartet. I've played with several different local groups over the years.

*** Lesson Details ***
I do not offer one size fits all lessons. I tailor my lessons to fit the needs and goals of each individual student. I use a variety of different method books based on the musical background of each studen
t.
You can expect that I will ask a bunch of questions at the beginning of your lessons, and I will try a bunch of things at first. And then will make a decision based on what I think will be the best fit.
I like to utilize what technology has to offer, and I have a keyboard and a computer available at every lesson. I use them for ear training and listening activities.
I like to make sure that music is fun, however I will expect that students are doing the work at home, so at home practice is expected.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Living room w/ violin, piano, keyboard, music stands, and seating for parents.
Please note that I do have a dog in the home, please let me know if you have allergies.

*** Specialties ***
I teach beginning and intermediate violin. I teach a classic style.

My daughter, Katie, started her first violin lessons this year with Lisa. I wasn't sure if she was going to enjoy playing the violin as she is only 6 yrs old and pretty lively (hard to keep her still!), but Katie loved Lisa from the start. Lisa is friendly, patient, and easy going with Katie. Within a couple of months, Katie was already practicing her second song and sight reading her music. Lisa is a great violin teacher!

very patient teacher!

Lisa is very patient! My son is a typical 8 yr old boy with lots of energy and she is very good at keeping him focused. She is also very good at working on 1 thing at a time and not overwhelming students with no music experience. I would recommend her to anyone interested in learning violin.

About RYAN
I am a student at the Eastman School of Music, and have been learning in the presence of some of the best teachers in the country. I also play in various baroque ensembles, and have played in numerous festivals across the country, such as the Bowdoin International Music Festival and the Oregon Bach Festival. I am the grand prize winner of the 2012 Hong Kong Bauhinia Competition.

As a teacher, my goal is to make the student love the music he or she plays, so that he or she will always approach the instrument with a positive and enthusiastic mindset. This, in my opinion, will make for the best playing, and best experience. I hope that through my lessons, my students will continue to play the violin, and look to share that music with others.

I am amazed by the progress my daughter made studying with Dahna. Dahna challenges her with hard pieces and helps her understand the music by playing together with her. Dahna makes sure my daughter “feels” the piece she is playing. With the feeling the technique becomes easy.
Dahna pours her heart and soul into teaching, and that shows in every concert: all her students play really well.

I am a professional violist and recently graduated from The Juilliard School in NYC with my Bachelor and Master of Music degrees. I have served as principal violist of The Juilliard Orchestra, Aspen Music Festival and School Orchestra, The Juilliard Pre-College Orchestra, and Tenafly High School Honors Orchestra. I attended The Juilliard Pre-College for four years and in 2010, was the youngest participant of the 38th International Viola Competition. A winner of the Lincoln Center Young Artists Chamber Music Competition in 2012, I performed in Alice Tully Hall.

Moving to Arizona, I have started my doctorate degrees at Arizona State University as well as teaching at the university. I have been teaching in NYC for six years prior to moving here and have taught students of all different ages and levels. I am able to teach students how to
read music and pursue classical excellence, and to learn how to play different styles of music depending on the goals and preference of the student.

My personal passion is classical music but I firmly believe that great technique in playing is essential to any and every style. I believe that I can make music more fun and easy for you and I look forward to meeting you and helping you to become a better musician!
