About Laurelanne
I graduated from Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville, GA with a BA in Music Education, voice principal. During my years in public schools I taught a variety of age ranges and subjects including kindergarten general music, beginning band, high school chorus, and remedial middle school English and language arts. I have professional Yoga training and enjoy incorporating aspects of that when tutoring adult, middle school, high school, and elementary students. I also uses Yoga, brain respiration and other healing techniques in my lessons as needed.

I was a member of The William Baker Festival Singers and Summer Singers since 2003 before becoming Media Relation Coordinator in 2006 and Assistant to the Music Director in 2008 and left the group in July of 2009 to pursue other musical ventures.

Every student has a potential
for greatness no matter what their strengths and weaknesses are. No matter your age or ability level I will help you set your goals and reach them. All students should want to learn. I expect my students to be prepared and have an open mind. Learning to sing is a process. I focus on building technique and a strong musical foundation and customize my lessons for every student and individual needs. I use breathing techniques and exercises that are challenging and work toward quick and accurate results. I implement a variety of exercises to improve pitch, intonation, placement, strength, and endurance. My main goal in teaching is to encourage each student to get to know their vocal strengths and weaknesses while using all their skills to their advantage producing their best sound consistently.

I like to teach each lesson, for both voice and piano, by spending equal time on ear-training/sight-reading (sight-singing), technique, and repertoire.

For singers used to singing along with their favorite recordings, matching sounds coming from the piano can be quite a challenge. Luckily, we live in an age of smart phones and tablets. I say this because if you go to iTunes or the Google Play store and search “intonation,” there are many apps that will help you learn to sing in tune (on the correct pitch). I’m new to using these apps, but I plan to use these in lessons regularly. Aside from counting steady rhythms, the ability to sing in tune is one of the most important skills for any aspiring singer. And while I’m thinking about it, download a metronome too. (I’ll explain how to use this after you book a lesson..he he :)

Also, training singers can be difficult because they can't see their instrument, and often singers don’t practice because they can’t see their ...

About Stephen
As a more seasoned music teacher, I’m learning that it’s essential to tailor music lessons to each client’s (family’s) individual goals. And no matter what the family’s goals may be, life is too short for a music teacher to ever stress out a student or the parents. For this reason, I try my best to impart as many smiles and laughs as I can into every music lesson. Also, I have a mindset that music lessons can have high standards AND be fun, not have high standards OR be fun; however, I will always regularly communicate with parents and students to make sure that their high standards and mine are on the same page.

As for my training, I have two degrees in vocal performance from Georgia State University and am currently “continuing education” as a staff singer at the renowned Episcopal Cathedral of St. Philip in Atlanta.
While at Georgia State, I had the good fortune to observe in action some of the most phenomenal musicians in Atlanta: Dwight Coleman, Dr. Peter Marshall, and Maestro Michael Palmer. Since that time, I’ve studied voice privately with bass Jason Hardy and soprano Sharon Stephenson, and I’ve fine-tuned, pun intended, both my vocal and pianistic musicianship by singing in choirs led by phenomenal directors like Dr. Eric Nelson, Walter Huff, and Dr. Dale Adelmann.

And not being a stranger to accomplishments in teaching (voice and piano), in 2013 I was recognized as a Top Teacher for student retention, communication with parents and staff, general positive feedback, and overall professionalism. In addition, both my voice and piano students regularly receive superior ratings at the local National Federation of Music Clubs festivals, pass ABRSM theory and piano exams, earn leading roles in school productions, and place in local talent shows.

P.S. For potential voice students, how many of you want to be a famous opera singer? My guess is, not many of you (to say the least :) However, what if I say, who would like to pretend they’re a famous bullfighter, a bird catcher (who likes to dress like a bird), an Ancient Egyptian, or a King or Queen while singing awesome music? Hopefully, more of you would try it. That’s why I love opera and classical singing. So I encourage you to watch, not just listen to, classical singing. You may be surprised at how cool it can be.

My son Burke has taken piano lessons from Stephen McCool for a few years and we think he is AWESOME! He shows a genuine interest in his students, stays serious about what he is teaching but also brings humor in to keep students from feeling stressed. It is clear that it brings him joy to share his love of music with his students. Mr. McCool is an excellent teacher and I would highly recommend him for students of any age.

The first lesson was superb. Andrew really enjoyed his first piano class and really liked learning it from Mr. McCool. After class, Andrew was immediately motivated to do his practice. Mr. McCool is very encouraging, he makes the lesson easy going while making his student learned quickly (without pressure). We look forward to the next lessons with him. Leaving the students with their own desire to learn and to love music is indeed very important. He delivers that traits well.

Obviously, there are basics that every students needs to know, but beyond that, your personal musical goals will be at the forefront of your lessons with me!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Room for music lessons, piano, and seating for parents.

*** Instructional Materials ***
I provide most instructional materials (worksheets, individualized lesson notes, etc.). I rarely use method books, but if a method book is desired, it will need to be provided by the student.

About Randy
I have been playing/writing music since 2002. I am a very passionate, positive, and fun person; and my love for music shows in my lessons. Music is more than a hobby to me; it is truly my life, and I love sharing it with others.

The very moment I learned to read music, I started creating music of my own. I enjoyed writing music so much that I decided (while in middle school!) that music was going to be my future, my career, my life! I learned to play guitar and piano and started touring around the South-East, performing and singing my songs for anyone and everyone. During this time I also started teaching private lessons in music stores, for music companies, and at my home studio. This is where I developed my love for sharing the joy of music with others!

As time went by, I obtained a bachelors degree in Music Education and
a masters degree in Music Composition; I taught music as an adjunct professor at Reinhardt University and became the music teacher at Tate Elementary School.

These days, I am a professional musician, making a living with live performances and private lessons. I have taught hundreds of private students, and I use the experience that I have gathered over the years to better teach my lessons.

*** Lesson Details ***
Lessons with me will be fun and relaxed, yet engaging! I know that sometimes, the fundamentals of music are not always the most exciting things to learn about. So, I strive to make lessons entertaining and musical from the very beginning! I will have you playing songs ASAP. I know exactly what steps to take to have you playing like a pro in the fastest time possible. I want to set you up for success, and I will give you the supplies to succeed (and have fun while doing it!). My goal is to inspire my students so that they will want to practice as much as possible; simply because daily practice at home is the best way to unlock your true potential.

My lessons are a custom fit for each individual. There is no ONE way that everyone learns, and that is why I take the time to create lesson plans that are tailored to each student. Obviously, there are basics that every students needs to know, but beyond that, your personal musical goals will be at the forefront of your lessons with me! I have some students who love music theory, ones who enjoy improvisation (creating music on the fly), and others who simply love to sing songs while strumming guitar or playing the piano. Whatever your passion, I will help you reach your goals and hopefully inspire you to create additional musical goals!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Room for music lessons, piano, amplifiers, and seating for parents.

*** Instructional Materials ***
I provide most instructional materials (worksheets, individualized lesson notes, etc.). I rarely use method books, but if a method book is desired, it will need to be provided by the student.

I expect my students to provide their own instrument: guitar and bass (piano provided for piano lessons).

From the basics to the more complicated elements in piano, he moves at your own pace while also challenging you. I have been told that I am especially good at helping people make the jump from playing by rote to reading from the page. In vocal instruction, I am familiar with three schools of technique: the psycho-imagery school, the "anatomical" school, and the Italian "open throat" approach. My background in acting also contributes basic vocal projection techniques to vocal training. I am comfortable with all genres of music, including pop, rock, soul, R&B, gospel, jazz and opera. In instrumental studies, I am a woodwind doubler, reading fluently and transposing on-the-spot . As a jazz and gospel artist I improvise primarily on the flute and saxophone. My piano skills are equivalent to a second-year college piano major. I can improvise accompaniments as well as read piano scores. In addition to being a certified teacher in Georgia, I attained national certification through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards in 2004.

When making music and coaching clients, I rely on these central philosophies: "know yourself" and "be authentic." I keep these notions at the forefront of my mind whenever I craft a lyric or step into a vocal booth.
Since 2000, I’ve been working as a Vocal Coaching Professional who specializes in helping people identify their unique vocal style. 14 of those years I spent at Jan Smith Studios where I trained, in addition to vocal clients, incoming vocal coaches and earned the title of Master Vocal Coach. I had and opportunity to serve clients who were at the beginning stages of artist development as well as clients who were on tour, in the midst of recording projects, or prepping for a television role. Because I consider singing a "full body sport" what I find to be true across the board is, self-awareness increases vocal mastery 100% of the time. When you become conscious of patterns and habits and their effectiveness in your vocal performance, you begin to awaken your natural problem

About Ebony
A native of San Diego, California, Ebony grew up in a large family where her four siblings, as well as eleven aunts and uncles, all sang. She discovered her own voice at age three when her mother, a gospel singer, encouraged her to sing in front of their church. Ebony accompanied her mother’s gospel group on tours around the country, and was competing in local talent shows by age twelve. At sixteen she performed as a soloist for the San Diego Symphony Orchestra and won first place in the gospel category at the California Teen Vocalists Competition.

Ebony enrolled as a Music Major at Clark Atlanta University in 1996. She soon won the opportunity to sing for production company Illfunk and later began working with producer Charles Harmon on recording her own material. By 2000 Ebony had a music degree and her own demo album with Harmon, who
composed many of the tracks. As her career grew, Ebony performed on the urban variety show, “Showtime in Harlem,” and landed a high-profile gig overseas where she opened for 70’s era disco group, Heatwave. Ebony became a background vocalist in 2004 for Anotha Dais Productions, an Atlanta-based recording studio by artist Jovan Dais.

From 2005 to 2019 Ebony was recruited to the team of vocal coaches at Jan Smith Studios. Ebony rose to the position of Master Vocal Trainer as she helped develop and facilitate training to the oncoming vocal coaches. In 2015 Ebony became very interested in body alignment modalities such as Feldenkrais and Yoga and as a result took a brief sabbatical to Hawaii for 40 days to earn a Yoga Teacher certification. From that point Ebony began incorporating new knowledge of body balance and alignment to create physical exercises to help strengthen the voice and focus the mind for optimal performance.
Ebony continues to pursue her own creative path as a singer, songwriter, and performer as she helps others to do the same.

Because of her vast knowledge and years of experience, she wasted no time finding any issues, problem areas/techniques that I had, and was able to address them swiftly and effectively.

You leave every lesson feeling informed about your internal instrument. She gives you very productive exercises, even nutritional information to help sustain your instrument over time. Whether for a tour, future performances, or just everyday life.

A lot of people can learn how to sing but only a few can make others really listen. I have been vocal coaching for four years on and off after graduating from Berklee College of Music. During my voice lessons we'll learn more about proper technique and focus in on singing with real emotion. I also do coachings where we can focus on a particular song leading up to an audition, performance and/or studio recording session. Although I am classically trained, I specialize in most contemporary genres including R&B, Soul, Pop and Jazz.

About Daneesha
Hey! My name is Daneesha and I'm currently living in Atlanta, GA. Music has always been a huge part of my life. I started with learning to play the piano at 5 years old and shortly after began taking vocal lessons classically! I was a classical vocalist up until my senior year of high school when I realized that my heart wasn't completely in singing classically. I made the switch to singing contemporary styles while attending Berklee College of Music. I majored in contemporary writing and production where I mastered coaching other artists in how to evoke emotion while recording a record. Although I don't enjoy performing myself, I love being a part of other artist's journeys and especially love coaching, producing and songwriting for others.
