I am a string specialist. That means I teach and play violin, viola, cello, double bass, guitar, bass guitar, mandolin, ukulele and piano. I earned B.A. earned from the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley Colorado where I was a double major in classical guitar and double bass. In my senior year I was the recipient of the Annual Concerto Contest where I performed the "Concerto in A Major" on double bass with the University orchestra for the spring concert. I have played in both professional and semi-professional orchestras in Colorado and Arizona. I believe that any student will practice more if he or she likes the music they are playing. Periodically I will ask a student to give me a name of a piece of music that they would like to learn how to play. I notate it for them, often simplifying the rhythm and chords in Finale NotePad and give it to them free of charge. I teach students how to play music on their given instrument. Not just how to play the instrument but working on ...

"Megan Chartier is a professional cellist, and in combination with this has the rare ability to be a sensitive and thoughtful teacher. In a short time Megan took me from a complete beginner to understanding complex concepts covering all aspects of playing the cello. Her basic instruction, as well as insights to guide my understanding of how to hold the bow properly, correct finger position, swinging movements, appropriate weight, etc, took me further than I imagined. Throughout our lessons Megan stay tuned in to my instructional level, while accelerating my understanding of how to move towards excellence. Megan truly exemplifies "beginning with the end in mind." I highly recommend Megan as a Cello instructor."

You can tell this is a passion for her, not just a side gig. She is very knowledgeable and wants to help you excel. The online process is also really great, I was nervous about it not being hands on, but it is so convenient and Megan is really good at showing you what you need to do and explaining things. What is the Suzuki Cello Method?

The Suzuki method, founded in 1945 by violinist Shinichi Suzuki as the Talent Education Movement, is one of the most enduring teaching methods, or pedagogies for young string players. Suzuki’s main goal for his music education system was to give students a “noble spirit,” which would instill respect and cooperation through his method. The method was brought to America in the 1960s by John D. Kendall, and today the Suzuki Association of the Americas instructs new teachers and studen …

What are the Hardest Cello Pieces? How to Get from Beginner to Advanced Player

As a beginner I often told myself I would know I am a really great cellist when I could play Rimsky-Korsakov’s Flight of the Bumblebee at full speed. To my young ears, this simply had to be one of the hardest cello pieces with its high range, chromaticism, and famously fast tempo. As my musical career continued I worked on these and other skills to reach a point I could begin learning the piece confidently, and it was only a matter of time before I achieved my goal. Of course, this wasn’ …
