Thank you for taking the time to view my profile- I look forward to helping you achieve your musical goals. I'm excited to announce that I'm now available to teach via Online if you're outside of my teaching radius or are seeking a more convenient alternative.
I'm a professional guitarist with a background in jazz, heavy metal, blues, classical, and bossa nova. In 2006 I graduated from the Berklee College of Music and am lead guitarist for the Atlanta band Axis of Empires.
Whether you are a beginning guitarist or a seasoned professional, I can expand and enhance your playing in any direction you choose. I look forward to getting to know you as a student and learning about what course of study will bring out not only your understanding of music but a musical style that is unique to you.
Having a long time love of all music I hav
e always enjoyed discussing music and educating others on its many aspects. As such I began teaching during summers home from Berklee and found that it was something I had a great deal of talent for. Now, with seven years of teaching experience behind me, I look forward to bringing my skills and insights to students of all ages and bring not only ability on the guitar but a greater love of music to a fresh crop of open minds!!
In addition to guitar, I am also qualified to teach voice, public speaking, dramatic acting, and all aspects of music theory, the latter of which I incorporate into all of my music lessons.
A FEW THINGS TO BE AWARE OF:
1. I am able to take lessons in your home or over Skype. I am no longer accepting lessons in my home.
2. Please only pick one teacher. I don't know why people do this but on more than one occasion I've had students come to me and say "I'm doing lessons with you and this other guy. I figure I can learn different things from both of you." You only need one teacher- if that's not me, I understand.
3. I will NOT remove you as a client on Takelessons so that I can take money under the table from you directly. Sometimes clients will say "the lessons on Takelessons are expensive- is there any way I can just pay you directly?" No, you may not. The amount you are paying is MY specified fee from which Takelessons takes a commission so paying me directly would not save you money. Furthermore, I have a binding agreement with Takelessons not to do this. If you press me on this matter I will discontinue your lessons altogether.
4. Similarly, if you are coming to my profile on Takelessons do not contact me on Facebook, Twitter, or any other social media attempting to circumvent Takelessons. Please book through Takelessons and I will be happy to address any questions you may have.
*** Lesson Details *** Although I follow a specific lesson plan, its important to customize that to each student's skill level and specific needs. Thus, I will spend the first lesson evaluating where the student is in terms of overall musical awareness, existing skill on the instrument, and long term interest.
By the end of the first month, my beginning students will be able to perform basic chromatic and major scales, name the notes on the instrument, and have command of a few basic chords. With these core concepts and regular, committed practice, they will be able to learn and perform songs in a wide variety of styles after 3 to 6 months have passed.
My more advanced students will have a lesson plan customized to their specific goals and desires. In 3 to 6 months with such a student I will have them well on the path to accomplishing their long term goals, whether those be playing, composition, harmonic awareness, understanding of theory, or all of the above.
*** Studio Equipment *** dedicated music room; cables/amps; electric & acoustic guitars; keyboard
*** Travel Equipment *** Electric or acoustic guitar as needed.
*** Specialties *** Having graduated from the Berklee College of Music, I follow their approach in educating the student. In this regard I teach music theory along with the physical act of playing the guitar, which serves to not only enrich the experience for the student but demonstrate how what they are learning is applied to music on the whole.
I am fluent in many genres and specialize in rock, jazz, the blues, and various fusion genres. Because music functions off of the same principles regardless of genre, I can take whatever style the student might best appreciate and structure my lesson plan around it.
Jordan is very knowledgeable and a good teacher. You can find good guitar players that will show you how to play guitar, but Jordan is much more than that and can instruct even veteran players on how to improve their play.

Great Instruction for all levels
I am in my mid-thirties and have never had any formal musical instruction until I started taking lessons with Jordan a few months ago. I was a little nervous about starting the lessons, but Jordan made me very comfortable right away. You definitely can tell he knows music inside and out. He is also very helpful about incorporating just enough music theory into each lesson, so I can expand my knowledge of theory, but not so much that I get overwhelmed. I would definitely recommend Jordan to anyone looking for a great vocal or guitar instructor.

Born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago, at the age of 9, Natalie knew music was something that was just a part of who she was. Writing songs on the piano before lessons could be scheduled, Natalie found herself immersed in a medium that would bring her joy for the rest of her life.
By age 14 Natalie had won several trophies competing in Classical piano with the Illinois Music Association.
As an adult, she would go on to fill her life with the world of music as a singer, songwriter, performer and recording artist.

desire to teach. By 1997, Natalie was signed to an independent label and embarked on a new adventure.
"Music is an adventure, but without the foundation and passion I had as a child, I would have never landed where I did. I truly LOVE to teach and share what I know about piano, and the world of music. Music is what I know, and know best. Helping to create a solid foundation and build confidence in someone embarking on a journey in music is the most rewarding profession I have ever had the honor of participating in."

Auditions!! They are definitely the most difficult and nerve wracking part of being an actor or singer, right? Booking work means your audition has to be as good as opening night. Auditioning is about preparation and preparation takes consistent support. Look, showbiz is not a business about being alone. Artists thrive when working together. *** Lesson Details *** What happens in a Lesson? In order to train your physical voice, it is necessary to do vocal exercises, in the same way that one needs to train at a gym. There is no "magic key" to unlock one's voice; it is a matter of daily practice and muscle strengthening/stretching. So, the first part of the lesson will be focused on vocal exercises specifically tailored to YOUR VOICE and its needs. The second half of the lesson is the fun part- SINGING! We will work on any songs and styles that YOU choose. Whether you want to sing Rock, Country, Pop, Musical Theater, or Classical, there is a healthy and communicative way to sing!
*** Travel Equipment *** I provide a keyboard. The student should provide a recording device, iPhone, etc.
*** Specialties *** I specialize in Classical and Broadway style singing, but have extensive experience in Contemporary Commercial Music as well. I teach a healthy approach to all styles, and modify technical approaches towards the genre that the student is most interested in.
The mission of my studio is to create well-rounded, educated musicians who will always have a lifelong passion for the art no matter their long-term goals. I strive for my students to be:
(1) Lifelong learners who develop successful learning habits. (2) Creative and critical thinkers who will become effective communicators. (3) Responsible and respectful members of society who respect other cultures. (4) Able to set short-term and long-term goals and be able to see them through to their success.
It is of the utmost importance that my students are well-educated in their chosen instrument; they must know and understand music and music-making. Students who can play are a dime a dozen, but students who understand the music they are playing are often hard to find. I teach students to kno
w music thoroughly, not just to “play.” I desire my students to comprehend elements of the score, to use their bodies effectively to make good sound, and to interpret music creatively and according to historical performance practices across all genres of music. Thus, I give students a purposeful education in technique, quality literature, performance and artistry, music theory, and music history.
Although students differ in ability and development, I maintain high expectations for our students. I expect attention and respect in lessons, faithful and diligent practice, careful adherence to instructions, and an “I’ll-do-my-best” attitude. If students regularly meet these expectations, then they will excel to the level that they are able. It is my joy to help students master their music, to do the best they can, and to strive for and achieve excellence.
Lastly, I want students to enjoy and appreciate their instrument, music, and music-making; and I know as as a teacher, I am very influential in making this happen. Students develop enjoyment of music by understanding music, experiencing success in music, being exposed to good and varied genres of music, and receiving instruction from a teacher who is enthusiastic and encouraging. It is my goal to provide all of these opportunities for students, and as a result their lives will be enriched as they enjoy their instrument.
My daughter takes guitar from Maria and I didn’t realize how much she’s progressed until we went to a friend’s recital. 8 months with Maria and my child is leaps and bounds ahead of kids who’ve been taking for 2-3 years. It’s really motivating for her to see. Maria has standards which are non-negotiable but she’s patient and truly guides the kids to success. I’m so happy with our choice as her as a teacher.
June 6, 2019
Maria has been wonderful with our son. Very motivating and goal based. The recitals blow me away year after year. The progress these kids make with her plus the longevity of her students says a lot.
As a professional actor for over 16 years, much of it in the theatre, my voice has always been a vital instrument of my craft. These lessons are great for anyone who finds themselves having to publicly speak and wants to do it with clarity and distinction without any vocal strain. Whether you're an executive, lawyer, teacher, or actor, proper speaking techniques are essential to improving your success and longevity.

"Michelle is very professional and knowledgeable in her teaching method. She immediately made an assessment of my needs to zero in on exactly what I need t
o be successful in voice projection and finding my authentic voice. The exercises I was given during the lesson are practical for using at home and at work!"
"Nicholas has been FABULOUS! In a very short time, he's worked on my voice inflection and tones and presentation style. Most importantly, he's given me a
framework to think about WHY I'm speaking and has encouraged me every step of the way!"
"great first lesson, very personable"
"My first spoken voice lesson was great! It was like getting a glimpse on a set of new and totally unknown tools that I could eventually find out how to us
e them for my expression. Though it was only a short lesson, it felt intense and concentrated and after the first excercises we did, I already felt that my throat had opened up a bit and that everything felt more clear and more connected. In a situation where I had to suddenly speak publicly right after the session, I remembered that I could reach a slightly deeper pitch after the excercises. It helped me relax my voice right in the situation. It's really great working with you, Karmyn! I'm looking forward to the next lesson."
"Great start to this experience! Looking forward to continuing!"
"Denise is my favorite teacher of all time. Before studying with her I was super nervous in front of the camera and crowds. She has helped me completely
get over that, and even better, I now love being in the spotlight! I'm no longer getting stuck in my head when I'm speaking to the camera, or in front of a crowd. I'm even getting compliments on how strong my voice sounds. What I love most about having Denise as a teacher is that she truly cares, and does more than improve skills. I've learned valuable, unforgettable lessons with her and I can't recommend her enough. She will change your life!"
"Great 1st lesson! Very excited to have Kim as my instructor!"
"Susan helped me with my speaking voice and we focused on a wedding speech I had planned to give as the father of the bride. Her feedback was invaluable a
nd the speech was a resounding success. Not sure I could have pulled it off as well as I did without her help."
