I teach beginners from a classical perspective using the Faber method with a strong emphasis on sightreading and music theory. As the students advance, we may move into other genres at the students' interest, with a continued focus on artistry and technique.

I suggest 30 minute lessons for beginning students and 45 minute lessons for all Level 1 and above piano students.

About Sindhu
Sindhu, singer and pianist, received her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from Georgia State University where she studied with W. Dwight Coleman. She is familiar with many genres of music including classical, pop, christian contemporary, and music theater. Her stage credits include the roles of Cendrillon in Massenet's Cendrillon, Mi in the Atlanta Lyric Theater production of The Land of Smiles, and Voice of the Fountain in the Lincoln Center Opera production of Ainadamar.

Sindhu is also at home in orchestral singing, having sung as a featured soloist with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra on several occasions, including performances of West Side Story as well as the concert setting production and Deutsche Grammophon recording of Osvaldo Golijov's Grammy Award winning Ainadamar, which she also sang at Carnegie Hall with the Orchestr
a of St. Luke's.

In addition to singing, Sindhu is accomplished pianist, having performed as a music director and accompanist for many musicals including Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, The Wiz, High School Musical, and the Secret Garden. She currently serves as the Children Choirs accompanist at Tucker United Methodist Church and plays regularly in the worship services at Gwinnett Community Church.

*** Lesson Details ***
Lessons take place once a week for either 30 or 45 minutes. I strongly suggest 30 minute lessons for all beginning piano students and 45 minute lessons for all Level 1 and above piano students as well as all voice students.

For Piano: I use the Faber method books. Lessons usually begin with a concept out of the Lesson Book followed up by an assignment from the Theory Book. If time permits, we will play out of the Performance Book, another song book, or a song of the student's choice. I always try to end the lesson with a music game that emphasizes ear training, sight-reading, and theory.

For Voice: I teach breath focused singing using a variety of approaches, the main being Bel Canto Technique. I enjoy teaching the Classical and Operatic genres of music. I begin the lesson with exercises emphasizing breathing and technique. I then move to working through songs enhancing the student's artistry. If time allows, we work on sight-reading and ear training at the end of the lesson. Voice students must be at least 14 years old.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Piano, music stand, microphones, and mic stand. I also have recording equipment if the student needs to record themselves.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I do not provide any equipment besides books and materials. I expect the students to have a piano or keyboard accessible in the home.

*** Specialties ***
Classical and Contemporary Piano

Classical and Operatic Voice

About Ali
Ali has had music in her life since she was in the crib. She has performed professionally in the musical theatre world and she has studied in several universities for Musical Theater, Jazz, Pop, Blues, and R&B. Since the age of sixteen, she has been selected to sing as a guest soloist for venues such as Spivey Hall, Georgia World Congress Center, and Georgia Tech Hotel Conference Center. *** Lesson Details ***
Ali loves to share her passion of music to the world and especially through her students. She loves to share new ideas and nuances along with the basics and fundamentals of technique. I have been teaching private piano lessons for ten years. My students perform in an annual recital and many have played for their school holiday program. This year, I began offering my students the opportunity to play in local festivals where they earn a score and rank by level. I teach my keyboard students to play through singing the melody and finding the matching tones on the keyboard. I use the Musikgarten curriculum as well as the Piano Adventure series for my private students. In both private and group lessons my students learn to play the same music in different keys. This demonstrates how well a student is using his or her ear to play the melody. My students read and learn to write music through our theory time in our lesson. I continually aim to provide my students with additional skills on the piano. We evaluate what is being learned by it's form and key. I include repertoire beyond our method books and help my students play music they know but don't have music for.

About Ginger
I have been teaching music to young people since 1987. I began as an elementary music specialist and taught in public schools for thirteen years. After starting my family, I began to teach part time as a Preschool music and movement teacher and private piano instructor. I now have fifteen years experience in this field. In the fall of 2013, I added a group keyboard class to my schedule for young beginners. My experience in the music classroom and the piano studio continues to inform my teaching and approach to working with music students of all ages. Students respond positively to the excitement and beauty of making music.

During every piano lesson I aim to help the student play musically and beautifully. We listen to different styles of music and use expressive technique to recreate that style.

My piano studies began in the fi
rst-grade. I studied the piano through high school and entered college as a music major with piano as my principal instrument. I chose the flute when middle school band was offered and continued to play through high school and college. My degree course was classroom/choral music which lead me to be a University Singer at Ole Miss during my four years there. It's fair to say that music has contributed greatly to make me the person I am .

I lived in Yokkaichi Japan after graduation from college where I taught conversational English and served as a Christian missionary. When I returned to the Atlanta area, I began my music education career. My music library has grown to include books, cds and music in American Folk music, multi-cultural folk music, classical and jazz music. I've also had the privilege of gaining many hours of professional training in Orff Schulwerk , Kodaly, Choral education and working with young children .

My mission is to bring music to life in my lessons and my students' lives!

*** Lesson Details ***
I think my best teaching characteristic is encouragement. When you're learning something new, you need time to get it right. I use Alfred's Premier Performance series because it includes duets for the teacher and student to play together. This is a fun way to play rhythmically and have ensemble sound while getting started. Alfred also introduces multiple styles of music, simple folk songs to more complicated boogie and dance rhythms as well as classical selections. My students prepare music for the winter holidays and a spring recital. I introduce scales for students who are ready by the second and third year and supplement course books with popular and classical pieces.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Petrof studio upright piano, drums, CD's, library of supplemental piano music.

*** Specialties ***
Traditional method series instruction for young students through adult. I recently added the Musikgarten "Making Music at the Keyboard" curriculum to my method choices. The Musikgarten approach focuses on aural training, leading students to internalize the music they learn before playing it at the keyboard. It emphasizes hearing, singing and playing the rhythmic and melodic patterns before reading them. Like learning to read words, this approach starts with "speaking" the language of music followed by reading and writing it.

About Maria
MISSION STATEMENT:

The mission of my studio is to create well-rounded, educated musicians who will always have a lifelong passion for the art no matter their long-term goals. I strive for my students to be:

(1) Lifelong learners who develop successful learning habits.
(2) Creative and critical thinkers who will become effective communicators.
(3) Responsible and respectful members of society who respect other cultures.
(4) Able to set short-term and long-term goals and be able to see them through to their success.

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY:

It is of the utmost importance that my students are well-educated in their chosen instrument; they must know and understand music and music-making. Students who can play are a dime a dozen, but students who understand the music they are playing are often hard to find. I teach students to kno
w music thoroughly, not just to “play.” I desire my students to comprehend elements of the score, to use their bodies effectively to make good sound, and to interpret music creatively and according to historical performance practices across all genres of music. Thus, I give students a purposeful education in technique, quality literature, performance and artistry, music theory, and music history.

Although students differ in ability and development, I maintain high expectations for our students. I expect attention and respect in lessons, faithful and diligent practice, careful adherence to instructions, and an “I’ll-do-my-best” attitude. If students regularly meet these expectations, then they will excel to the level that they are able. It is my joy to help students master their music, to do the best they can, and to strive for and achieve excellence.

Lastly, I want students to enjoy and appreciate their instrument, music, and music-making; and I know as as a teacher, I am very influential in making this happen. Students develop enjoyment of music by understanding music, experiencing success in music, being exposed to good and varied genres of music, and receiving instruction from a teacher who is enthusiastic and encouraging. It is my goal to provide all of these opportunities for students, and as a result their lives will be enriched as they enjoy their instrument.

Ron is an excellent piano instructor! He communicates in a way that opens my mind to learning and reading the piano in a simpler and more efficient manner. He has helped me learn basic techniques of chord structure and finger positions then transcends those methods to fit the current trends in pop music today. I use a friendly and encouraging approach that is very accessible for even the shyest of students. Lessons encourage discipline and build confidence over time. We will play together and sing together for an enriching and lively lesson experience.

About Leigh Anne
I am a fun teacher who specializes in building confidence through practice techniques and performance opportunities. I am devoted to making each student leave their lesson with a smile on their face. I have a Bachelor of Music from Berry College, and I am very actively involved in the Cobb County Music Teachers Association.

Piano lessons are tailored to the individual student. I teach all ages and all skill levels. We participate in Pianothon every Christmas, which is a performance at Town Center Mall raising funds for a local music scholarship. We also do an annual Spring Recital, which may have a special theme (last year was video game music). Piano students will learn theory, history, and a love for their instrument.

Voice lessons are any genre the student prefers. I love musical theatre, art songs, lieder, pop music, anime music, ja
zz, or even rap/hip-hop! Each year high school students have an opportunity to go to a state vocal competition. We prepare for school events or All-State Auditions or any other auditions or performance opportunities that may arise. Vocal students will learn theory, history, and technique applicable to the songs their singing.

I also offer field trips! I like to take my students out of the studio and to musicals or shows or even the Renaissance Festival to experience music in real life. Come along for the ride!
