I do some Algebra tutoring almost every day. I have tutored hundreds of students the math sections of the SSAT, SAT, and ACT for 10 plus years. I have had a great time doing so. My students work hard, listen well, and typically achieve their goals.

If you've ever struggled with Algebra and wished you had someone that could explain it to you in a way that you could understand, I may be the teacher for you. My students learn because I adapt the lessons to their own personal experiences and interests. When students can make math personal, they have a much better chance of excelling at it.

About Rob

I am an easy going, knowledgable and creative teacher. I strive to put the students and their personal needs first. I'm very aware that each student/person learns differently and I incorporate various strategies of learning into my lessons. There is a lot of humor and dialogue with my lessons, al

My love of tutoring, and the desire to pay forward the help and inspiration I was given from teachers and tutors, has developed through over ten years of tutoring elementary through graduate school level math and physics, most recently at Harvard. I believe a tutor’s main role is to empower. As such, I try to guide a student to take a problem apart into ever smaller pieces until the tutee is able to solve each of those small pieces independently. Each small success helps the student believe they are able to tackle the subject on their own. The student dictates the pace of learning, but I try to help them keep track of the bigger picture and avoid frustration when tackling each step of a problem. The end goal is for the student to learn not just to understand the necessary concepts and calculations, but to learn how to dissect and approach any problem with confidence.

Analogies and real-world examples are critical to explaining concepts to any student, and I try to choose ...

About Nicholas

My interest in math and physics started with a childlike wonder at the infiniteness of space, brought home by watching the yearly Perseids meteor shower from the deck of my family’s cottage on a rural island in Canada. In college, I tried to pursue my curiosity to the utmost, taking courses in abst

Nicholas is a very professional and thoughtful tutor. He is helping both of our teenage children navigate through math topics that are part of their curriculum, while tailoring each class to their individual needs and different personalities.
After having had virtual school due to Corona and a long summer break, working with Nicholas has helped develop confidence in our children that they can actually keep up with the regular school requirements and have a go-to person who helps them better understand the problems and learn how to solve them.
We are very thankful for Nicholas' passion for teaching and his ability in finding ways to connect with the students online. My son was so happy when he got his first math result back. It is the subject he struggles most with and a good start of the schoolyear is such a great motivator.

Nicky will be the best tutor you have ever had - guaranteed. I was absolutely blessed to share the same house as Nicky in University. As a math concentrator at Harvard, I was often in over my head when it came to quantitative classes, and Nicky was my go to instructor (through an awesome arrangement with the BSC) on any problem set, project, or class I needed help with.

Nicky assisted me with Single & Multi Variable Calculus, Linear Algebra, Real Analysis, Statistics and Differential Equations to name a few of the core classes I solicited his assistance for. He is a very patient, calm and thorough instructor. He will show you the concept through multiple lenses as many times as you need to see it so that you understand it. This is only possible because of his deep understanding of the subjects he teaches. Other things I like about his tutoring: he comes prepared, he outlines the lesson, he adjusts to your comfort level, and synthesizes the concepts for you and relates them to daily life (the one thing I absolutely need in a teacher).

I still reach out to Nicky today if I need to discuss or refresh complicated concepts that come up at work - thank you Nicky!

"Relaxed but perceptive and capable

Having read Christopher's bio, I sensed that there was something special about him, and that he was the right one for our son who has some learning challenges, particularly in the area of Math. I believe it is very important a tutor connects not only on an academic level but also where there can be some light hearted conversation. Christopher arrived punctually for our first meeting and his assessment of our son. In advance of that meeting I had explained to Christopher what the challenges are and what our collective objectives are. As soon as I saw him, he appeared to relaxed but confident. After an initial introduction, I stepped away to let Christopher and our son become acquainted and he immediately set about establishing some common ground which happened to be a particular sport. No more than Christopher, our son is also very perceptive and despite the fact that he initially resisted the idea of any tutor, his words after this first meeting were "I can work with him"! Its obviously early days yet, but so far so good!"

He was struggling in his class and with his confidence in math, but after his first few sessions with Colin his quiz and test scores in algebra came up.
