My name is Brandi, I have been singing since the age of 3, and writing music, recording and producing since the age of 12. As a teenager I began playing piano and guitar as well. I am a college graduate of Jazz Studies; with a focus in Music Business, and Music Production and Engineer and was a vocal principle at Berklee College of Music; I attended Cuyahoga Community College, and Berklee College of Music. During my years of college I've studied, musical arranging, ear training, breathwork, songwriting, and many private musical lessons and more. Post college I have taken vocal mastery classes in Atlanta, GA.

As a musician/singer I have performed in front of as many as 3,000 people, I recently had a full page feature in a magazine, as well as had FM Radio rotation for a song I wrote, sang and produced, and sold music on iTunes.

*** Lesson Details ***
What a student may expect from this teacher:
Within 3-6 months students shall a have a good grasp on the foundation of their instrument/ craft; have a controlled sound; be playing/ singing what he/she hears; stronger, more defined tone; be able to play through/ sing through at least one song; have expanded range; confidence; and of course tackling personal goals set within the lessons.

My Goal is to facilitate bringing out what greatness already lies within and to assist in that growth, as well as teaching new information and the how to apply. I am not very strict on notation, as far as reading music (Piano and Voice). Lessons with me will more consist of the meatier portion of music how to use the instrument, developing the sound, understanding chord structures, playing/ singing what you hear, techniques and how to put it all together musically. However I will go through musical notation and reading chords, but it will not be a focus. (If you desire to play/ sing classically, I may not be the best teacher for you.)

For MUSIC PRODUCTION: Producing musical tracks and recording artist is the root and the focus. The curriculum is sculpted from LOGIC PRO X, REASON and PRO TOOLS software (subject to change). Students learn how to create what he/she hears and how to format it all together; Students learn how to track and record/ mix in the most professionally used software; Mixing and Mastering shall be touched upon as well.

When it comes to teaching and application of knowledge for each student I am serious about his or her growth; I don't want anyone wasting their money or time, so practice and dedication is necessary.

I like to teach each lesson, for both voice and piano, by spending equal time on ear-training/sight-reading (sight-singing), music theory, technique, and repertoire.

When I teach ear-training to pianists, we do a lot of count-clapping and tonal memory drills. Count-clapping is a way to develop rhythmic accuracy. The act of speaking (counting) while clapping a rhythm activates more of the senses and therefore leaves a stronger impression on the brain, very similar to teaching reading comprehension by getting students to read aloud. Tonal memory is nothing more than developing a pianist’s listening abilities so they can quickly memorize what they’ve heard and recreate it on their instrument. I don’t teach pianists to play by ear, however, but I’ve always had great respect for musicians who have this ability.

Now, piano technique means different things to different pianists. For me, I firmly agree with the teachings found in Alfred’s Premier Piano Course. This is fairly

As a more seasoned music teacher, I’m learning that it’s essential to tailor music lessons to each client’s (family’s) individual goals. And no matter what the family’s goals may be, life is too short for a music teacher to ever stress out a student or the parents. For this reason, I try my best to impart as many smiles and laughs as I can into every music lesson. Also, I have a mindset that music lessons can have high standards AND be fun, not have high standards OR be fun; however, I will always regularly communicate with parents and students to make sure that their high standards and mine are on the same page.

As for my training, I have two degrees in vocal performance from Georgia State University and am currently “continuing education” as a staff singer at the renowned Episcopal Cathedral of St. Philip in Atlanta.
While at Georgia State, I had the good fortune to observe in action some of the most phenomenal musicians in Atlanta: Dwight Coleman, Dr. Peter Marshall, and Maestro Michael Palmer. Since that time, I’ve studied voice privately with bass Jason Hardy and soprano Sharon Stephenson, and I’ve fine-tuned, pun intended, both my vocal and pianistic musicianship by singing in choirs led by phenomenal directors like Dr. Eric Nelson, Walter Huff, and Dr. Dale Adelmann.

And not being a stranger to accomplishments in teaching (voice and piano), in 2013 I was recognized as a Top Teacher for student retention, communication with parents and staff, general positive feedback, and overall professionalism. In addition, both my voice and piano students regularly receive superior ratings at the local National Federation of Music Clubs festivals, pass ABRSM theory and piano exams, earn leading roles in school productions, and place in local talent shows.

P.S. For potential voice students, how many of you want to be a famous opera singer? My guess is, not many of you (to say the least :) However, what if I say, who would like to pretend they’re a famous bullfighter, a bird catcher (who likes to dress like a bird), an Ancient Egyptian, or a King or Queen while singing awesome music? Hopefully, more of you would try it. That’s why I love opera and classical singing. So I encourage you to watch, not just listen to, classical singing. You may be surprised at how cool it can be.

My son Burke has taken piano lessons from Stephen McCool for a few years and we think he is AWESOME! He shows a genuine interest in his students, stays serious about what he is teaching but also brings humor in to keep students from feeling stressed. It is clear that it brings him joy to share his love of music with his students. Mr. McCool is an excellent teacher and I would highly recommend him for students of any age.

The first lesson was superb. Andrew really enjoyed his first piano class and really liked learning it from Mr. McCool. After class, Andrew was immediately motivated to do his practice. Mr. McCool is very encouraging, he makes the lesson easy going while making his student learned quickly (without pressure). We look forward to the next lessons with him. Leaving the students with their own desire to learn and to love music is indeed very important. He delivers that traits well.

I play piano and electronic keyboard. My musical background is in jazz, pop, rock, blues, and folk music. I am not a classical pianist.
When teaching piano/keyboard, I teach primarily playing by ear, and chord theory, although I do also teach the fundamentals of reading notes.
With electronic keyboards, I teach students to become familiar with and utilize the features of their keyboard; I also teach improvisation.
As with guitar, I adapt my lessons to meet the interests, attention span, and learning styles of my students.

I graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Louisiana at Monroe with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music. I wiould like to let anyone know if they are interested in learning to play the piano, especially an older adult that Ms. Ossie is the instructor for you. She is very patient and extremely knowledgeable in piano as well as teaching. I have learned more from Ms. Ossie in a short period of time, than I did from taking lessons for a year, with another. Ossie is a great instructor! She is very passionate about what she does. She is very patient and very easy to work with. Ossie passion translate well with my daughter, it helps with her confidence and makes her a better player. She's also very detail in her instructions, making it very easy to understand. Mary Frances has been teaching voice since 1987. She works with youth and adults, beginner and advanced. She helps voice students develop a natural, healthy, beautiful sound, proper placement and projectio
n of the voice for singing and speaking. Her goal is to help singers gain fulfillment and joy while improving their art. She believes music should be fun and rewarding.

VOICE STUDENTS of hers have won university placement and scholarships and have been accepted into Allstate Chorus for High School in Georgia.

She also teaches PIANO. She has taught piano for about 10 years. She studied piano privately for 10 years and had further study at Indiana University.

Students wishing to have any COMBINATION of piano, music theory, sight reading and/or vocal development can receive a program of study that meets their individual needs.

PERFORMANCE EXPERIENCE:
Mary Frances has performed with the Southeastern Savoyards Light Opera Company, the Atlanta Opera Chorus and Studio, the Atlanta Symphony Chorus, Marietta Theater in the Square, and Neighborhood Playhouse. She has sung title roles in Patience, Little Red Riding Hood and Hansel and Gretel. Other roles include Josephine in HMS Pinafore, the Princess in The Student Prince, and Connie in The 1940'™s Radio Hour.

She has performed many roles with Capitol City Opera Company (CCOC) including Annina in The Saint of Bleecker Street, Bastienne in Mozart's Bastien and Bastienne, Nora in Vaughan Williams' Rider's to the Sea, and Gilda in Milton Granger'™s Talk Opera. She sang for many years in CCOC's school outreach program. She has sung many concerts for CCOC as well.

Mary Frances was a soloist in Handel's Messiah for Peachtree Presbyterian Church. She has worked as the soloist at The First Church of Christ Scientist in Roswell, Georgia and at The Second Church of Christ Scientist in Sandy Springs, Georgia ( This church has now closed). She occasionally directs and sings in the choir, and substitutes for the cantorial soloist at Congregation Dor Tamid in Alpharetta, Georgia.

EDUCATION:
Mary Frances holds a bachelors degree from Indiana University School of Music in both Voice and Theater. Mary Frances was a long time student of Elizabeth Colson (now deceased) of Atlanta, Georgia. She has attended Brevard Music Center, The Georgia State Opera Workshop and the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria. While in Graz, Mary Frances was a finalist in the Meistersinger competition.

*LESSON DETAILS

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR LESSON LENGTH:
Voice students: 30 minutes for young students up to 5th grade. 45 minutes for young students in Middle School and some 5th graders. 45 or 60 minutes preferred for high school students and adults. Piano students: 30 minutes for most beginners of any age. 45 minutes for young intermediate level and adult students.

TEACHING STYLE AND CURRICULUM:
ALL: My teaching style is relaxed yet progressive. I use positive reinforcement to encourage progress with adults and children. Students are allowed to progress at their own pace which varies with age, coordination, processing speed and previous exposure to musical education.

PIANO: I prefer the Alfred'™s Basic Piano Library series for my piano students. I find that my students learn more music theory and music reading with this series. If the student has started lessons in a different series, I can work with that as well. I have a large music library that provides a wide selection of music in addition to the Alfred books. I expect most beginning students to learn basic music reading and theory in 3 to 6 months. They should also to be able to play simple tunes in that time. I am an active professional singer, so I have a large library of vocal material at my disposal.

All piano students are REQUIRED to have an instrument to practice on at home. The piano MUST HAVE AT MINIMUM:
IF Digital - 88 full sized, weighted keys with polyphonic sound ( at least 10 keys should be able to sound at at the same time) and a sustain pedal,
OR - If Accoustic - maintained and properly tuned.

VOICE: I begin my voice lessons with breathing techniques and vocal placement using widely accepted exercises coming from a large body of sources such as:
Vaccai, professional level vocal teachers, coaches and directors that I have worked with and learned from over the last 30 years, and the writings of highly acclaimed authors in the vocal field. I also have a wide selection of art song books, oratorio, musical theatre, and opera. My background is classical and musical theatre, but I believe all styles of singing need the basic skills of breathing and vocal placement. I strive to keep voices healthy as well as find each student's most beautiful sound. Most students will see progress in breath control, range, projection and diction in 3 to 6 months.

Repertoire is chosen on an individual basis depending both physical and musical ability. Younger students and beginners will be encouraged to not push their voices with material that is too difficult for their individual abilities because singing requires a certain amount of physical endurance. My goal is to find each student's natural sound without strain for whatever style he or she
sings.

Voice students are encouraged to bring a recording device to lessons to use for later practice and study.

The only reason I have taught piano is that I LOVE music, especially piano music. I have THE PASSION for piano teaching. I love to share what I know and appreciate of, to see people enjoy music and piano playing, and to bring more people closer with piano music. It always breaks my heart to see a lot of students (mainly beginning and intermediate leveled) are NOT learning music but mainly asked to memorize every musical piece before they even learn the structure of the music or practice it. Their goal is to play a musical piece out quickly, rather than LEARNING or STUDYING the music or piano in the process.

I would like my students to enjoy, understand, and bring the ARTISTRY of music into their life, but not just being able to play out something. I explain why we need to have a good posture and awareness of how our physical par
ts work together, why we need to have a flexible wrist to play certain passages, why we push our elbows out to play some notes, why we use different weight transfer to the hands, why we don’t attack notes, why we rock our hands back and forth to play certain notes, why we round up the notes rather than pressing the keys down, as early as the students are able to comprehend.

Piano studying is not only about learning the notations but also expressions, interpretations, phrasing, structures, tonal relationships, mood, articulations, analysis, and etc. for intermediate and advanced piano students. I include some music history in association with the pieces the students are learning to play, besides the theory and structure of it. I would ask my students to find any patterns in the pieces and any differences between the same or similar passages. I often ask students to tell me what they can find throughout the pieces based on the knowledge they have and what they have acquired through the lessons. I ask them to listen while playing and train them to listen. When they make mistakes, they likely do notice the weirdness about them by listening the sound. I imitate HOW they play a passage and HOW I play it, and ask them what the differences are in terms of techniques and artistic interpretation. I explain how the students should practice and how they can tackle and isolate a problematic area. Competitive endeavors and striving for excellence are appreciated with pedagogic approaches.

It is important for me, as a piano instructor, to understand what purposes each student would like to achieve. Although striving for excellence is my personal goal and is what I would like my students to have, not every student takes piano lessons for the same purpose. Some students take piano lessons simply because they just enjoying the therapeutic quality of playing the piano. I am totally respecting that. Having said that, my approach of teaching varies, according to the needs of the students. I don't ever use a universal single method or approach to teach all. Some methods work better for some students but not others. That's why I use different method books to different students.

It always makes my day when I hear music pieces my students play with their hearts and enjoyment. It is my joy to see them grow and immerse in music and music studies.

My daughter started taking lesson's from Ms. Huang when she was only six years old. Judy Huang was a patient and very professional teacher when instructing my very young, yet shy daughter. The instructions were well organized and fun. We had to move away for a few years but after my return, I sought out Ms. Huang to continue teaching my now teenage daughter. I found that the piano teacher we hired in the interim was teaching my daughter how to play by ear only. Once Ms. Huang resumed my child's instructions, my daughter absorbed music theory, became proficient in reading sheet music while keeping her artistic flare. I would highly recommend Ms. Huang as she is a gifted piano teacher.

I’ve been a student of Judy Huang for 3+ years and look forward to lesson time every time! She is an excellent teacher! She doesn’t just tell you how..she shows you how to play well, using the best technique and musicality, not playing notes. She has a calm patience about herself and a kind caring demeanor that makes a stumbling student like me feel at ease! I highly recommend her to any piano student, beginner or advanced.

Our children have been going to Judy for 6 years, beginning at 6 years old. She is respectful, patient and kind with her way of teaching the children. Judy likes to keep the communication open between her and the parents of the students, so that she is able to
tailor her teaching to each child. She teaches them to evaluate the music by the techniques they have learned through her. Judy has taught the children that it’s not about playing notes but the musicality of each piece of music. Over the last 5 years, Judy has prepared both children to participate in music festivals and both have received awards for superior ratings.

I would highly recommend Judy to anyone that is interested in playing piano or has a child that is interested in piano.

Christine is great with my children. She helped my high-school student with his orchestra audition (with her coaching, he made it into the highest orchestra at his school). She also helped launch my middle school aged daughter as she started up with viola. Christine is terrific with communication, flexible when possible with scheduling, and is as friendly as a long lost auntie. Her teaching style is gentle and encouraging.
