Relatable and experienced Trombone and Brass teacher looking for beginner/intermediate level students! All ages welcome, no one is too young or too old to learn as long as you like music and want to learn your instrument. We will set goals together based on how YOU want to sound and what music YOU want to play. I will do my best to offer you the knowledge and experience I have while relating it to other concepts/experiences you already possess. In lessons, you can expect to work on tone, embouchure, breathing, rhythms, lip slurs, etc.

Once we have a handle on the basics, I'll arrange music hand tailored for my student based on what music they like to listen to! I've done music for students all ages and many genres. A few examples of favorites are The Polar Express movie soundtrack music, Back to the Future soundtrack, Bad guy by Billie Ellish, We Are Number One from Lazy Town, and many others.

I hope you're excited about these lessons as much as I am because nothing makes me smile ...

First lesson online with Steven. My 13 yo son was positive about his experience. They took the time to talk trombone & listen to Other artists trombone music. This approach was a natural and appropriate hook em’ for my son. Looking forward to the hands on playing and making music together in subsequent lessons.

Thomas is honestly an amazing musician and teacher. He was really patient with me. Despite having to deal with major timezone differences (as I live in Myanmar), he took the time to figure it out. Also, he helped me figure out the stuff it took me months to figure out. He also really knows what he's doing. I learned so much in that hour of practice. 10/10 would recommend him.

I took trumpet and music theory lessons from Mr Talley He has a wealth of knowledge and experience. I highly recommend him and look forward to my next lesson from him.

My brother took lessons from Mr. Talley before me, and when I got into Band I started too.  Thanks to Mr. Talley I  made 1st chair in the Region Band twice on Tuba.  When I switched to Euphonium in high school, he was right there helping me with the change from Tuba.  I made the Region Band again on a new instrument only a few weeks after I switched, and he was the reason why.  He always seemed to know exactly what I needed to do to get better.  Even now, years later, I can still call him any time and ask him about music and he always helps me.
Derrek
My mom made me take lessons from Mr. Talley when I was a little kid because my brothers loved him so much.  I thought he was kind of crazy at first, but when I started doing the things he said I got WAY better.  Now I can see what he was doing – he just knew EVERYTHING about trombone, so I got really good.  Even though I don’t play in band any more since I graduated high school, I still sometimes get my instrument out and play for fun.  I always hear his crazy sayings in my head, which makes me enjoy it.  You should sign up – my mom always said he was worth every penny because he helped her raise us into good people.  I didn’t get that when I was a kid, but I understand now.  He taught me more than music – he taught me how to think smarter.

Beginning music lessons at the age of 9, Miss.M has now turned her passion into a career path. She has spent over 10 years studying Cello and 6 years studying Tuba, choosing Tuba as her instrument of choice. She now is pursuing a BM in Music Performance where she hopes to share with others the joy of performing and how much it means to her.

My first online lesson with Natalie went very well. Essentially my expectation was that of a "meet and greet" and initiate the study of playing tuba. All was accomplished.

As an individual instructor I rate Natalie highly because the attitude that she presented to me was caring and she listened to me as a person as opposed to just proceeding along an "algorithm" lesson plan. As a beginning student, with other musical instrument experience, I am looking forward to having my next lessons with Natalie moving forward with the objective of learning tuba at the beginning level of competency.

Tuba:
The largest and lowest-pitched musical instrument in the brass family. Like all brass instruments, sound is produced by moving air past the lips, causing them to vibrate or "buzz" into a large cupped mouthpiece. I begin teaching from the beginning with the very basics of breathing, embouchure, fingerings, reading, notes, rhythms, songs, scales, theory and improvisation.

Karen was great!

This teacher misrepresented her ability to teach the C system chromatic button accordion. I don't believe that she has ever played one. I asked her before purchasing a set of classes if she knew this instrument and was competent to teach it, and she said she was.

She didn't have one, so she could never demonstrate anything I asked about. She didn't know the key layout. She didn't know the conventions for numbering fingers. She didn't know the basic home key scale pattern.

I waited until I'd finished four classes with my new teacher before writing this so I'd have a good basis for comparison. He is immensely better at teaching this than she was. It further convinced me that she never should have represented herself as competent to teach this particular instrument.

"Jeremy has been great in relating to my junior high age son playing tuba. Developing a rapport via online lessons was a natural progression for the YouTube generation. Jeremy was encouraging and helped develop and grow technical skills to move from last chair to first chair and promoted to next band in the next semester! The ease and flexibility in scheduling allows him to continue in his lessons through busy concert seasons. Looking forward to adding his younger brother to the lesson with Jeremy soon!"

"At 40, I decided to pick up the tuba that I’d kept since playing in college. I wanted to get off to a solid start. I found in Bryan a solid teacher with a wealth of all sorts of musical knowledge. I implemented the lessons into practice and felt myself grow stronger in some areas than I had ever experienced in my first 10 years of practice and learning. I was also able to see a marked improvement in my bass guitar skills by applying many of the same concepts to the playing of that instrument. These lessons have been a great investment for my musicianship."
