I have been teaching piano for over twenty years, with many of my students participating in international competitions and regularly receiving state honors from the Music Teachers' Association of California (MTAC). Teaching is truly more than a career for me - it is a passion that guides my interaction with all of my students, no matter their age and skillset.

If in addition to pursuing piano as a hobby, you would like to participate in the MTAC Certificate of Merit examinations and earn credit for your studies, you are more than welcome to do so. As a member of the MTAC, my students boast a 100% pass rate (with the vast majority receiving perfect scores on both the performance and music theory sections).

My love for the piano started at the age of thirteen. I majored in Music Education at Frostburg State University, and studied piano under various professors. I have eleven years experience in teaching children and adults the piano. I hope to convey a love of music during lessons. Playing the piano shouldn't be stressful. It should be rewarding, relaxing, and fun.

I played piano for Brigham Young University's Dance Department for 7 years - sight reading or playing without any music for Ballet and Modern Dance classes. I think sight reading is one of the best piano skills to have because you can play whatever you want in a fraction of the time. So my goal is to get students there. Most people aren't looking to become concert pianists, and my goal isn't that. It's to help them play well enough to really enjoy it and be very satisfied with their progress.

Fun lessons but also challenging
- I believes that fun lessons are easy to gain young student interest, but it often lack to give them motivation. In the lessons, I often challenge my students, let them be self-motivated and become a better musician.

Techniques
- I focus lessons on teaching proper techniques with their instruments. With my experiences in taking lessons from American, Chinese, and Russian teachers, I learnt a great spectrum of techniques and like to teach what I had learn.

Learning pieces and other related topics
- Playing pieces and songs is only a small piece of playing an instrument. In lessons, I also teaches proper music theory, and ear-training.

I teach rock keyboard with a focus on fun. I've spent many, many hours playing songs from the Beatles, Spoon, Radiohead, Sufjan Stevens, Bon Iver and many more. I received my piano proficiency from Knox College where I majored in music.

My beginning students always start with a song that they love. As soon as those songs are internalized the application of scales will become a necessity, but will never take precedent over rhythm and feel.
