I have a very solid academic background in math and science and rich experience in working with students to improve their math proficiency.
I view teaching/education as my calling, by that I mean it is a profession that deserves life-time effort and dedication. I ascribe who I am and what I have accomplished to my parents and all my teachers. They instilled knowledge, the skill to learn, and the moral compass in me, which transformed me into an independent and contributing citizen who knows how to and when to make the right decision. I feel that to do the same as my teachers did to me is my responsibility to younger generations.
I hold a Ph.D. in chemistry. With a strong academic background in science and math, I have successfully helped many students improve their academic performance in math and science through tutoring.
In recent years, I have also tutored students in standardized exams. My expertise is MCAT chemistry and physics, SAT, GRE, and GMAT.
I can hel
p you achieve the score you need to enter your dream school.

After speaking to multiple tutoring companies, we discovered Matthew. Matthew was very professional and made my son feel comfortable. They had a total of 5 tutoring sessions covering Math, English, Science and Reading. My son took the ACT after his tutoring sessions and scored a 23. We were very pleased with the progress our son made by going from an ACT score of 19 to 23 after only 5 sessions with Matthew. I would highly recommend Matthew J. Horwich to anyone needing tutoring.

Matthew explained his approach to coaching and the plan so we were able to make an educated choice on the best tutor for our son. Matthew was responsive, organized and worked very well with our son. He communicated directly with our son and cc:ed me so that I was aware of the plan and f/u. His scores did improve on the SAT and we were pleased with the investment.

Matt has been awesome for my student. His math skills have improved greatly, and his writing has come from illegible to what can now be described as neat and readable. Matt has been very patient and deliberate with our son and has taken the time to really explain things to Jake in a way he can understand. We would recommend this tutor to any parent looking for a tutor for their grammar school student! Matt is also reliable and prompt and showed up when expected which was helpful with our very busy schedules.
As an bioengineer, calculus is the bedrock of much of the mathematics I use to solve physical problems in biomechanics and fluid mechanics. A rock-solid foundation in pre-calculus is imperative for a mastery of calculus. I have been successfully helping my students raise their grade in pre-calculus for the last four years. I help my students learn pre-calculus by emphasizing the fundamentals and ensuring they have a sufficient understanding of the theorems upon which pre-calculus is built.
Hello there! My name is Colin, and I have five years of experience tutoring math and science. I am a PhD student in the UC Berkeley-UC San Fransisco joint bioengineering program. My strong background in STEM qualifies me to tutor math and science up through lower-division college courses. Aside from my academic qualifications, I believe that it is my genuine passion for math and science that makes me an effective tutor for students of all backgrounds.
As a tutor, my goal is not to impress students with how much I know. Rather, my goal is to show my students how easily math and science concepts can come to them when they are presented the material in a straightforward way. The late physicist, Richard Feynman, posited that the ability to explain complicated ideas in a simple manner is the true mark of understanding. I agree with this a
ssertion, and I make it my goal each tutoring session to explain even the most complex phenomena in a simple way, so that my student will come away from the lesson invariably understanding it. Additionally, I emphasize a strong understanding of the fundamentals, because both math and science are heavily inductive disciplines; many of the theorems and laws are founded on other, more fundamental principles. I have personally experienced the discouragement of trying to learn material that is beyond my preparedness level, and so I can empathize with students who are in that boat. Fortunately, I have learned that the remedy is always a return to, and a strengthening of the basics. That is the approach I take with students who find themselves struggling in a course.
My online teaching platform is a “black board” drawing program that my students can follow along with as I explain concepts and solve problems. I simply share my screen with them during the session, and at the end, I take a screenshot of the notes and email it to my students for their reference. I hope this brief explanation of my qualifications and teaching style has provided a clear image of what you can expect from me as your tutor. I am eager to hear from you and help you succeed in your academic goals!
I taught myself pre-calc/calculus in my freshman year in high school. I know firsthand how difficult it is to learn math, but I have overcame these challenges myself and will guide you to overcome them too. I stress understanding/intuition rather than memorizing boring formulas as that's how I learned it myself.
I also have close to 8 years of math/computer science tutoring experience, which will surely come in handy!
I have always been a self-studier in my entire life. Being able to learn with just books and your brain is a crucial skill to have! However, I know not everyone (and sometimes even myself) have the discipline and motivation to keep going during hard times. This is where a tutor would come in handy.
I enjoy tutoring (doing it ever since I was in high school for my classmates) and helping other overcome problems that I have encountered myself because it enhances my own understanding and makes me happy that my self-studying is helping others. Sometimes, my students even bring up alternative ways of thinking that I have never thought of before!
Students will learn the concepts and apply them through a lot of practice problems. Through the practice, students will have a full knowledge of the concept(s).
I teach/tutor a myriad of topics and love doing it. I'm currently attending the Georgia Institute of Technology, studying aerospace engineering and Russian. I love science and math (particularly when it has to do with space stuff). I'm super outgoing and a very laid back, chill person all at the same time (being like this has produced quite the stories).
Working with others and helping them succeed has been something I've loved to do for a while now. While I was in high school, I was a coach for one of the local swim teams and had a blast getting to teach people how to swim and such, and the best part was getting to connect with those kids and seeing them succeed during the swim meets.
Once I graduated, I had the privilege to serve as a full time volunteer in Brazil for a couple years, where my sole focus, every day, was to help o
thers to improve the quality of their life. In doing so, I had the wonderful opportunity to meet new people everyday and see people's lives drastically improve. Another cool part of this experience was that I got to teach English as a second language to people who'd never spoken it before. They loved it, and in the time that I did teach it, students went from speaking no English to being able to form basic sentences and have simple conversations.
Now in college, I've strived to continue this pattern with the little free time that I get during the week and on the weekends due to my classes. Throughout all of this, I've discovered how easy it is for me to connect with people and how much fun it can be.
What I bring to the lessons: I always ensure to provide the highest quality lessons and ensure that the student easily understands the materials. I'll provide materials that I know will assist the student to master the concepts.
My expectations: Learning requires the student to put in effort. Any assignments I give, I will expect them to be completed. I understand that sometimes one of "those weeks" comes around where life hits us in the face, but it's not every week.
Your expectations: You've come to me obviously to learn something new, and I intend to go above and beyond those expectations.
I wrote 5 star review (would give more if could) But showing as 4 stars... not sure why. So writing another one! But I can't say enough great things about Andrew. After 1 tutoring session my son had so many "ah ha" moments. I am so thankful and full of joy. My son is actually "getting it" and may even see how math could be fun...lol.

Andrew was amazing with my 15 yr old son. I am full of joy! My son had so many 'ah ha' moments and actually starting to see math (trig) can be fun. Andrew is an amazing tutor and my son felt so comfortable working with him. I am so thankful and will definitely continue tutoring lessons. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I have been teaching and/or tutoring Precalculus since 2003 at the middle school, high school, and university level, in person and online. Precalculus demands patience, attention to detail, and reasoning skills which I help the student achieve while at the same time converting frustration into determination and growth.
Math Tutor and Teacher - Personal or Online - Skillful and Effective
I love tutoring and my approach is three-fold. First, I help each person learn how to become more successful and independent lifelong learners. Second, each tutee should complete their assignments as much as possible before each session so we can identify and focus on specific trouble spots. Third, I work within the framework and scope of their primary mathematics teacher to supplement and augment what is happening in the classroom.
I have experience as a nationally certified tutor, tutoring in high school and college, as well as volunteer tutoring of the GED math tests. I have also taught middle and high school mathematics and instructed college mathematics. I enjoy working with teenagers and adults of all ages. My tutoring and teaching experience includes element
ary school to grand parents in age, as well as non-traditional students, and Veterans.
I also teach university math remediation classes (AKA developmental education) as well as classes to bypass remediation by preparing for the Accuplacer/Compass admission tests.
I am familiar and comfortable with current technology (graphing calculators, computer algebra systems, computers, mathematics programming) as well distance learning (online homework and testing and MyMathLab, WebAssign, Khan Academy, Skype, etc.).
In addition to tutoring online I enjoy working in person with each student. Meeting at local public libraries is ideal as some branches have reservable private and safe study rooms with white boards.
For each appointment the tutee needs to bring all their materials, text book, class notes, completed homework (as much as possible), specific questions for me, and any completed instructions from our previous session. If online homework is used in class then please bring a laptop. If you don't have one, there are often Chromebooks available for checkout at the library. One hour appoints are preferred because they allow more time for specific learning and growth.
Additionally, I can supplement or substitute regular homework with specific and tailored lesson plans.
Shortly after each session, I will report our progress and my obervations, including instructions for follow up.
I strongly recommend use of the WyzAnt app for easier communication and calendaring purposes.
I enjoy helping each tutee recognize that they are, in fact, capable of learning and succeeding in mathematics. I look forward to the opportunity to serve.
I have years of experiene helping students with Pre Calculus. Students have come to me requesting assistance with Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, and introductory Calculus concepts. Students that I have helped gave comments on how they loved their tutoring sessions and were able to move on to do greater things.
I am a graduate of Alabama State University and have a Bachelor's of Science in Mathematics. I have years of experience helping students in the ASU mathematics lab. I also have experience tutoring high school students as part of the ASPIRE Mentoring Program and I have tutored elementary and middle school students as well. Topics that I have tutored include basic math, pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, and calculus.
While tutoring at ASU, I have modified my tutoring style to provide better service. What happens is that during the first few sessions, I get to know each person and some things about the course that they are taking such as the syllabus content, the type of grade the person wants in the course, the number of points each assignment is worth, and the date of the next major test. I then try to hold tutoring sessions in accordance w
ith this information. During a session, I go over homework, explain concepts that may be misunderstood, go over topics that I think are especially important, and sometimes give practice problems. I do a lot of visual explanations for concepts. Periodically, I would ask about the grade that was made on a recent test and modify my tutoring style if necessary. My goal is to help everyone that I tutor strengthen their mathematical skills.
Usually, I tutor by appointment and each session usually lasts for about 1 hour. In order to reschedule or cancel an appointment, I request a 24-hour notice. I am willing to meet in a public place or online.
I also make videos that cover math concepts in order to make it a little easier for students to get the information that they need to be successful. If you would like for me to make a video, please let me know!
If you're struggling with pre-calculus, I can show you how to understand it easily.
I tutor beginning French, high school and college physics, and mathematics from basic arithmetic through calculus. I home-schooled my own kids—two daughters who are now straight-A students at university, including mathematics.
I first began teaching French in 1965 when I was a 3rd year high school French student, helping other students who were struggling to learn the language. Everyone whom I helped showed great improvement in their comprehension.
I'm a retired physicist and engineer who worked as the senior scientist for a consulting engineering firm. Over the years I have helped many students who were having difficulty with algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and calculus, as well as physics.
I remember what it was like to feel lost and intimidated by math problems that looked difficult. Geometry was easy for me, but algebra was
a struggle, until I figured out a fundamental approach that simplified everything. In turn, that approach made it much easier to understand trigonometry.
Similarly, I had a difficult time with high school calculus until I took physics. Once I saw that there was a practical use for the mathematics, it all became clear.
I know what my stumbling blocks were, and how I got past them. That's why I believe I can help anyone who's having a tough time with mathematics, at any level.
"was very easy to understand and was very knowledgeable on per calculus and was able to give better explanations to make per calculus problems easy to unde

"Daniel helped me reinstall core Algebra 2 concepts that I learned the past year within a couple of hours. He helped thoroughly explain concepts that I mig
ht have had trouble with, and tried to find different approaches to the problem, so that I could derive the answer. He truly is a caring tutor and person."
"Dr. Dawn is amazing. She is everything you want in a tutor. She helped my daughter study for an Honors Pre calculus exam. We started with a 45 minu
te session and now signing up with Dr. Dawn for year round tutoring."
"Brandon was extremely helpful in teaching me the unit circle and trigonometry. Definitely use him again!"
"Prof. Thiru. Helped me to know the concepts much better in precalclus. He would show me step by step how to solve the problems and I got much better at so
lving them. He was very patent despite the fact that I did not know very much going into his tutoring sessions. When I got out of his tutoring sessions I knew much more and felt more confident in my abilities. I highly recommend him to anyone who is looking for help in precalclus."
"Akib helped "unblock" my thinking on a pre calculus. I also appreciate the acknowledgment that the work I have is tough. I highly recommend Akib and we ar
e looking forward to our next session."
"I took Pre Calculus with Paola and I would rate her a 4."
"I have been communicating with Alex for about 8 months. First he was helping me with my Trigonometry class and now with Pre-Cal. I have zero issues with h
is performance. He is very professional and extremely knowledgeable about anything to do with Math. Keep in mind, he is good at both Math AND teaching/explaining it. I have every intention to use him for every Math class I have in my quest to obtain a degree in Com- Science. If he was living In Houston, he would probably be my wife's piano teacher."
"Jennifer is a wonderful tutor who not only has deep expertise in her subjects but knows how to take that expertise and help her students to become better
students. The result is that her students are able to retain what is taught in various subjects. My daughter has been tutored for years by Jennifer and is an honors student. We definitely believe that Jennifer is a major factor in her success. We recommend her highly and as my daughter has matured during her time with Jennifer, she values her insight and advice as she plans to take the next steps toward college admission. We are very fortunate to have a resource in our community that not only we as parents value, but that the students themselves value too."
