About Amy
I have been a voice, acting, and teacher of creative arts for over 25 years. My background includes ten years of classical training with Maestro Julio Berrocal, as well as vocal training through the Feldenkrais approach with Marcy Lindhiemer. In acting, I have studied with renowned Stanislavsky scholar Sonia Moore and Master acting teacher of the Strasberg Method, Marcia Haufrecht. I received a B.A. For comparative literature and creative writing at the State University of New York at Purchase and have recently completed my Master's degree in social work at Walden University.
I believe, within all of us, Is the ability to express something distinctive and original. I work to help the student discover their individual and unique voice, whether it be through singing, acting, or writing. I share with my student's tools to gain the abilit
y and confidence to achieve their goals. I empathize deeply with the challenges students may face when pursuing a life in the creative and performing arts, having worked professionally in those areas for most of my adult life. I believe, it is the teacher's job to respect each student's individual process of learning.
My students have gone on to become recording artists, Broadway performers, movie actors, Blues and cabaret artists, and published writers.

Voice
I am an empathetic teacher, sensitive to the student's individual process of learning. My singing lessons usually start with breathing and relaxation exercises. Vocal exercises come next, then when the student is fully warmed up, we will begin to work on songs. It is important that the student be part of the process of picking material since the more they personally respond to the material the apter they are to be engaged in their lessons and the more quickly they will learn. After three to six months they will understand the fundamentals of breathing and relaxation and its importance to proper vocal training. They will have begun the process of extending their range and will understand the principles of performance in song.
Acting
As an acting teacher and coach, I tailor my classes to the needs of each student. I utilize improvisatory and sensory techniques to help unleash spontaneity. I also encourage the students to use their personal experiences as a way to access a full range of emotions. I enjoy working with the student on script analysis, so as to discover the underlying motivations of the character the student is working on.
Creative and Lyric Writing
I use prompts as a way to get the student writing. Often, I will ask the student to write for stretches of time without editing themselves. It is important to unleash imagination before beginning the process of editing. Many times it is the unexpected that is the most compelling.

Amy is a truly incredible teacher and person. All of her students love her and those I've referred have thanked me profusely for the introduction. My daughter has studied voice with Amy for a number of years and after just the first lesson, the improvement in her technique and confidence was remarkable. Amy can bring out the best in anyone's voice. She is encouraging and nurturing and provides the safe and positive relationship anyone would want to have with their teacher.

Allison's dedication to teaching is obvious from the moment you start with her. As someone with a lot of trouble sticking with the more tedious parts of practice, her consistency and energy did volumes for my attitude and ability to stay on track. That she's still a student herself seems to inform her teaching all the time - Allison understands that some things just click more than others, and she doesn't get frustrated when you need extra help or encouragement. I would recommend her to anyone!

He explains and presents new music material clearly, and always models in order to facilitate learning. He also monitors progress continuously and provides feedback on students' performance. One of the best instructors I have had the pleasure to work with.

About Amber
I am an experienced tutor in mathematics, and a current student at the University of Florida. I've been tutoring in a variety of maths for about 5 years. I have experience tutoring in any math course from pre-algebra (math I) to college level calculus 3. This includes all of the following:

Pre-Algebra (Math I)
Geometry
Algebra I
Algebra 2
Pre-Calculus
Calculus 1 (AP Calculus AB)
Calculus 2 (AP Calculus BC)
Calculus 3
AP Statistics
IB HL Mathematics

I have a very visual way of thinking, and I emphasize truly understanding the content rather than just memorizing methods. I always do my best to ensure that the student has a full understanding of the material so that it can be easily applied anywhere it is needed in any math course. Math is about expanding your way of thinking through logic. There is no problem in math that does not have
a logically deduced answer, so if at any point in math you find yourself thinking that some things in math must be memorized because they simply do not make sense, I hope that I will be able to show you that that is not the case. What I'm best at is teaching the reasoning and the logic behind concepts in mathematics, and by showing the concept, it should provide you a better understanding so you can truly understand what it is you are doing and why.

Amber is smart, determined, and dependable. She will work with you until everything makes sense, which is saying something because the class she was helping me with was physics, and you know how that stuff isn't straightforward. Plus, Amber actually likes math, which is a strange and beautiful fact in it's own right. She just graphs stuff for fun.

Amber helped me while I was struggling with synthetic division in my Algebra two class, she was such a help and joy to work with that I actually understood everything stemming from that lesson. Since being tutored from Amber initially, I have come back in classes such as Statistics and College Algebra, and definitely recommended to my friends! She has such a clear and concise way of explaining things that it makes the material a breeze to get through.

About Mike
I'm a Johns Hopkins University graduate who has earned multiple perfect scores on the SAT. In the decade I spent working for a test prep company, I taught students of various abilities, ran prep courses, wrote class materials for all three subjects, advised families about every aspect of the standardized testing process, and gave SAT and ACT presentations at local high schools. I doubt you'll find anyone with more experience!

I often work with students whose SAT scores don't match up with their grades, so if that sounds like you, don't worry! The SAT is a unique test that asks questions about familiar topics that you've learned in school, but it does so in a way that disguises those topics. For example, you might be staring at a Math question that makes you feel totally lost - like you don't even know where to start. In fact, you probabl
y have all the knowledge you need to solve it. My job is to help you get better at searching your brain for the right strategy.

I use real practice tests so that you can see more questions and get more comfortable with the format of the exam. But I've also written my own study materials that break the SAT and ACT down into manageable "packets". Each packet is meant to narrow your focus to a certain question type. I think you'll see pretty quickly that the SAT doesn't change all that much from test to test, so once you know how to recognize each question type, you won't be surprised when you see it on the next exam. That's why they call it a standardized test - the questions don't vary all that much!

By breaking the test down into manageable chunks, I can make it easier to learn the material because you won't have to memorize hundreds of formulas, grammar rules, and vocabulary words at once. Small goals are easier to achieve. And accomplishing those little goals will boost your confidence, making you more willing to try the hardest problems that you used to give up on. As you take practice tests, you'll see those scores go up, and you'll actually be excited for test day!
