Sylvia is very good at taking the time to explain the reasons behind the why of doing certain things. Being an adult with no musical background what so ever she has really taken the time to teach me some basic fundamentals that are helping me build the solid foundation that I so very much want and need. Beyond the time we spend with one-on-one instructions she challenges me with exercises to practice on between our meetings. I explained to Sylvia what I was looking for and she has centered the training and instructions around that to ensure that my goals are being met. She is a pleasure to work with and learn from.

I teach beginner cello primarily using the Suzuki books, but supplement with other materials when needed. My students work on scales and rhythm constantly to improve their tone and musicality as well as technique. I teach classical, religious, fiddle, and more. I also teach group ensembles, trios, quartets, and I work with students on their school orchestral and audition pieces.

About Erin

My name is Erin. I am a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Music, with a concentration in Violin. I began studying violin at the age of six. I have performed with small chamber ensembles, orchestras, quartets, and trios. I enjoy playing for churc

Many teachers who teach viola are primarily violinists, and are not as aware of the extra attention to detail and slightly different techniques that this instrument requires. Since I am primarily a violist, I can teach tone production, posture, and other techniques from the perspective of a player who has spent time learning the idiosyncrasies that make the difference between an excellent violist and a competent one.

My teaching style is inspired by my initial training in the Suzuki method, and my studies with violist and pedagogue Karen Ritscher at Oberlin Conservatory. Please note, I have not yet received training as a Suzuki teacher and use the Suzuki method books and the teaching I received as a Suzuki student as a jumping off point for working on each student's individual needs.

About Grace

I studied viola at Oberlin Conservatory of Music and moved to Portland three years ago to pursue performance and teaching opportunities. Since then I have performed with Classical Revolution PDX, Cascadia Composers and ARCO PDX and am a member of Macaulay Balkan. My initial studies were on violi

Super cool person, easy to talk to, great instructor.

At the first lesson, Grace took the time to understand my musical goals then made a solid assessment of my current level of playing. She was able to identify small changes in my technique/form and crafted modifications in my warmup to support the change in technique.

I feel Grace is a great teacher for my eight year old daughter. This is my daughters first time playing an instrument. Grace is so patient and respectful to my daughter. Grace is teaching us a little at a time which I believe is a good pace for us. I have had to learn as well so I can assist my daughter in her practice at home. This part I didn't expect but Grace offers guidance. I feel through Graces lessons she not only is learning how to play the violin but learning self discipline and respect.

The Steel Pan is such a beautiful, and fun instrument! It is also one of the most logically set up instruments and makes a great tool for learning about music in general.
*Note* I only play tenor and tenor bass pans. I am unqualified to teach double seconds, or other types of pan.

About Mike

Learning to play an instrument is a mixture of a lot of fun, and a lot of hard work. My strength is finding what will inspire my students to WANT to put in those difficult hours of practice, and then showing them how to apply what they have learned in a creative way, so that they experience the fu

Amazing, patient really informative instructor and just a great guy. Highly recommend.

Mike was really the best instructor I could have asked for. Knowledgeable, patient, and best of all, chill when he needed to be. I was just picking up the drums for a high school band I was in at the time, and he was more than willing to help me learn whatever dumb song me or my band had decided sounded cool at the time. At the same time, he showed me a lot of really excellent practice techniques, directed me to some solid literature for different rhythms to work on, and would sit with me through a whole hour of my relentless mistakes like it was nothing. More than a good instructor, he's a really cool guy! He never missed a beat!

Melanie did a phenomenal job of giving me tailored instruction to where I wanted to go with my voice. The tools she gave me in our lessons have helped me produce the strength I'm looking for in my unique sound. And I love her bright and joyful attitude as she teaches. Such a great experience!"

"I have been doing online vocal lessons with Jeff for a short time, and I am so happy I decided to do them! I love to sing, but my confidence has been lacking. The vocal warm ups and the instruction surrounding them have really brought me out of shell and helped me to find my true voice. Jeff’s confidence in my abilities, coupled with practice have been so valuable to me, as well as inspiring. He’s given me that extra nudge to say YES to performance opportunities!"

I've found that letting go of my preconceptions and following his advice is always the better way to go.

I am in my 50's and stated lessons just a few months ago - but I am playing songs and thoroughly enjoying every note along the way to achieving my goals.

I would highly recommend Howard as a teacher of piano and also of learning how to learn."

"My son began taking piano lessons about 3 months prior to our finding Fawn. Before switching instructors, he hated his lessons and practicing. Piano held no interest for him. Once he began taking lessons with Fawn, everything changed. He practices on his own for longer periods than he is required to, and we are thrilled about it! Fawn has instilled a love of the craft in him. He loves it and he loves learning from her. He is so impressed by her career, songs and ability and tries his best to be his best for her. Thank you, Fawn!"

Learning to Read Music: An Introduction for Singers

Learning to read music can be a daunting task for beginner singers! Here, Ann Arbor, MI voice teacher Elaina R. shows you how to get started...   Not to point out the obvious, but as singers, we don’t have keys on our instrument. We don’t have buttons that emit the same pitch every time they are pressed. Most of us don’t have perfect pitch, either. This makes learning to read music quite different for singers than for other musicians. Not only do singers deal with learning h …
