I teach all techniques of oil painting, from painting fast and loose to the style of the old masters'. I work with my students to identify their painting goals (I teach all levels and do not require any prior artistic experience!) and create a custom lesson plan to help develop their painting skillset. I teach the very basics of how to mix paints all the way to more complex portfolio reviews and critiques of painting concepts. I believe anyone can learn to paint when given the right tools! I'm a published pro photographer living in Seattle teaching all levels of photography and photo processing and printing. My focus is making it fun to get up to speed quickly.

If you have one, I will show you how to use a manual camera (digital or film). Even if you only use fully automatic cameras, this will help you understand how your pictures turn out. Even if you only use your iPhone or mobile phone, I can help you get better pictures.

First thing I do before first day of class is send out an enthusiastic email and call shortly after. Briefly discussing and establishing the learning goals for the course based on the visual literacy,technical,and intellectual competencies the students should achieve by the end of a period is ideal for me to design the course or update an existing course for the student's desired outcomes. The syllabus and the schedule are completed along with a comprehensive strategy for what will take place during class.

I will teach you how to reveal your own photographic "eye". That is, now to use the camera as an extension of your expression, how to take what you see, and put inside a frame.

I teach photography concepts from the art form, and from basic through advanced technical and aesthetic.

You will learn how a camera lens is much much more than just a zoom closer/farther tool for your scene. The lens you choose is vital towards helping you achieve the vision you are bringing to your work. Camera exposure is similar.

Although my focus as a TakeLessons teacher is primarily in music, I also teach a killer Calligraphy class. I do not take the fact that I am 'multi-talented' lightly. I know good calligraphy and I know mediocre calligraphy. Before getting more involved with music, I taught Calligraphy at a junior college for 7 years. I taught over 750 students and took classes from a student of Donald Jackson, one of the Scribes of the Queen of England. I can strengthen the work and techniques of intermediate or advanced calligraphers (and illuminators) and am very adept at teaching beginners. We can meet in my music studio or your home. I have a list of preferred materials and love this amazing communication form.
