I excel in language arts, including grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and writing - including essay writing, poetry and song lyrics. I also teach diction (pronunciation) and reading aloud/oral expression.
I am fluent in Hebrew, and studied Spanish for 3 years in high school. My background in these foreign languages helps me understand how to teach English to non-English speakers, as well as to native English-speakers.
As a tutor, I am patient, intuitive, friendly, and positive. :-)
I have been teaching music (guitar, bass guitar, keyboard, banjo, mandolin, ukulele, recorder, music theory, and classes for toddlers, preschoolers, school-aged children, and adults) for over 20 years. I am also a band/show director at the School of Rock! In addition to teaching music, I also tut

BM in Music Composition, BA in Classics (Greek & Latin) from Ohio State University
It is my grasp of foreign languages that makes me an effective English teacher. For instance, learning the complex grammar of Latin and Greek gave me a thorough understanding of English grammar and the ability to relate to other people’s native languages. I have spent many hours proofreading papers for international students. They find my instruction especially informative because I not only fix mistakes but provide an explanation. When I point out the patterns of grammar, similar mistakes show up less and less, and my students feel more confident that they are writing sentences correctly.
I learned English teaching methods through my tutoring experience. Over a span of four months, I gave a Turkish visiting scholar a systematic overview of English grammar and allowed him to apply it through conversation.

Cognates are words that sound similar and can mean the same thing across different languages. However, in French, there are some tricky cognates that don't mean what you might think they mean. French tutor Carol Beth L. shares five common French false cognates... Due to their similar roots, French and English share some vocabulary and grammar.
