While my background is in classical guitar, I enjoy exploring other genres such as jazz guitar. If you're not sure what genre you want to study, let's first learn the basics and then go from there.

About Phil

I've been playing guitar for over 20 years and teaching since 2008. Along with teaching, I've also been pursuing music recording, an endeavor which has produced two full-length albums and one that is still in progress that should be released sometime in 2020. *** Lesson Details *** When teachin

As a player and teacher I specialize in metal, rock, free improvisation, and classical but am also highly proficient in jazz, blues, funk, folk and more. I develop each curriculum based on the student's musical interests. We closely study the technique and theory behind songs and artists of the student's choosing. I encourage interdisciplinary courses of study that touch on many different subjects, including music theory and composition/songwriting, but ultimately the student's goals and interests guide my lessons. Specific topics I've covered with students in the past includes transcribing advanced jazz solos (Coltrane, Mingus, McLaughlin, etc), Bob Dylan strumming patterns, learning Megadeth guitar solos, developing arrangements for raw compositional ideas and thrash metal technique (Slayer, Metallica, Suffocation, Death, etc).

About Dylan

I have a BA in Music from NYU and have been teaching private guitar lessons for 10 years. In 2009 I created the visionary metal band PYRRHON. We've released four full-length albums, all of which have received critical acclaim from noteworthy publications. I am an expert guitarist, composer, arrange

Dylan's an awesome instructor! He's patient, friendly, and open to helping you learn whatever style of guitar playing you'd like. And really flexible and understanding with scheduling. I hadn't played guitar in years when I started back up with Dylan and he was great and informative with helping me through the basics again.

Will Fletcher Instruction has been going strong since 2009. New students starting this year are doing great along w all the older, more musically advanced students. I want you to play music. I don't care how we get there as long as on your specific instrument you want to learn, you are making music

Will was everything I expected. I was looking for someone to teach naturally as opposed to rote (boring) learning. I'm sure Will can do rote but he did what I asked.

He really knows his music and can teach in a way that gets my son directly into actually playing music, which is exactly what I was after.

He’s really flexible and can take anything and turn it into something good.

The pace was spot-on, matching perfectly the maximum my son could understand at the time.

I think my son learnt the absolute maximum he could in that short space of time and he learned a LOT.

"Ian is a fantastic instructor. In our second lesson, he completely changed the way I look at scales and soloing AND helped easily make sense of a music theory concept that always confused me (and how to apply it practically).

On top of it all, he is very approachable and easy to work with. Highly recommend!"

"I cannot recommend Billy enough. I studied jazz improvisation with Billy for three years, and later returned to study Brazilian guitar and Piedmont-style finger picking with him. I had been playing for more than twenty years when I started studying with him and he not only helped me improve my playing technically and creatively (on electric and nylon stringed guitars) but also expanded my knowledge of theory and helped me develop new approaches to composing and arranging. I am still working with the material he gave me and take lessons from him whenever my schedule allows."

"You would be hard pressed to find a teacher as dedicated to his craft and teaching than Frankie. As a beginner he understood the challenges and frustrations of a newbie guitar player. He was always patient and quick to point out progress. He starts with the basics and builds on that knowledge so you know both theory and technique. Every week brings a new challenge to improve, expand and grow. All with Frankie’s wonderful guidance."

Tips for Open Mic: 3 Ways Guitarists Can Shine

Guitarists, are you ready to hit the stage at a local open mic? Polish your performance with these tips from guitar teacher Samuel B.... Performing (like songwriting) is a craft at which any dedicated musician can excel. It requires no prerequisites – only the desire to share your talent and creations. My high school music teacher once said Thomas Edison misappropriated the original purpose of music by inventing machinery to record it – that nothing can replace your experience of seein …
