I enjoy using American Sign Language as both a fun creative outlet through interpretation, and as a tool to communicate with members of the Deaf community. I have taught vocabulary and culture to students levels 1-3 and try to add as many relevant cultural insights as possible to my lessons.

Students can expect to focus on fingerspelling, hand shapes, vocabulary, facial expression, body language, and ASL interpretation skills.

About Robert

Mixing has been my passion for over 5 years and I regularly DJ for underground parties and live streams hosted by promoters and friends. My partner and I have developed an easy-to-follow 6-step method through our brand Mix 'n Match Mentors that teaches the basic "order of operations" you should fol

Was attentive and showed his passion for the art form each week! Really helpful in setting my base fundamentals.

Robert was truly fantastic at teaching me the basics of DJ'ng. He first showed me the ropes and then let me try things while he watched and advised. Robert really knows his stuff, and has a knack for presenting things in an easy-to-follow manner which I could understand. In 5 short classes I went from knowing nothing to understanding the basics of mixing with confidence. He is also fun to work with, and very easygoing which is a big plus. I would highly recommend Robert to anyone looking to get started in DJ'ing.
Brett
There are many aspects of Robert that make him uniquely suited to instruct people in the art and skill of mixing:
* he's an extremely empathetic person so he's always on the same wavelength as his student.
* he's an exceptional communicator, as evidenced by his fluency in not only English and Spanish but ASL as well. More importantly than his multiple-language fluency, he has a natural aptitude for teaching and explaining things in an intuitive way.
* he's extremely passionate about live music performance, but especially the sounds that get people moving on the dance-floor. He also possesses an exceptional breadth of knowledge of dance music as a whole: the history, the artists, the genres, and all manner of tracks from timeless classics to fresh releases.

Robert has put a lot of thought into how to build the fundamentals of mixing from the ground up. I know, because I was one of the first people he taught. When we started, I was overwhelmed by the flashing lights and myriad buttons on the controller, and couldn't transition from one song to the next to save my life.

The many hours we spent teaching me to mix had two significant outcomes:
1. Not only do I feel comfortable stepping up to the decks to mix, it's actually something I REALLY enjoy and look forward to.
2. Robert developed the teaching framework he'll use to teach you, which focuses first on mastering critical fundamentals in an intuitive, step-by-step process.

If you're anything like me, listening (and dancing!) to dance music is something that brings you a great deal of joy.

Take it from me: the thrill of a perfectly-executed transition from one song to the next is an intensely gratifying and thrilling one. Being at the helm of a controller, you get to play an active role in the music, which is so much cooler than just passively enjoying it. Robert got me to that level.

He can get you there too.

Do you want to learn how to communicate with the Deaf? Are you intrigued by the use of sign language? Come learn with me. I am Deaf and I use American Sign Language. My brother is also Deaf, so we grew up using ASL together and at school. I have been teaching online for the past 5 years, and I love teaching others how to improve their communication skills in ASL. Sign language is one of the most expressive languages, have you seen an interpreter recently on the new? Have you noticed how fast they move their fingers, and make a variety of facial expressions. I can help you, no matter what level of ASL you know, I want to help you make progress and become fluent. I have a toddler and he is learning ASL, if he can, you can! See you in the classroom!

I’m the only Deaf person in my family. I love photography, drawing sketch, and I love teaching American Sign Language (ASL).

I have experience teaching at American Sign Language (ASL) Camp at Mill Neck Manor School for the Deaf. I taught students from a range of grades, typically students from Elementary to Junior High. I constantly look for ways to give back to the Deaf community, such as mentoring and giving the advice to serve them best.

I use various tools such as flashcards that contain words, pictures, and vocabulary in order to build language skills. I will use educational videos that explain topics such as Deaf Culture. I will also use storytelling videos ana will adapt to a range of ages. I will provide American Sign Language (ASL) levels to match each age group.

I will have books for your first trial lesson and come and see for yourself! If you have any additional questions, feel free to contact me.

I look forward to meeting you!

Cheryl was great!! She was very knowledgeable and patient. My daughter was able to learn what we would consider a lot on the very first lesson. Despite the technical difficulties we were having with our personal equipment Cheryl was able to work through those issues with us and continue a lesson. She was friendly kind and reassuring to my daughter who doesn’t always have the most confidence in herself. She is helping her learn something that she really wants to do And helping her with her self-confidence as well! Couldn’t ask for anything more! Thank you so much take lessons and Cheryl

Signing these last few months with Magen has been amazing! I have loved every minute I spent with her through zoom. She does an amazing job at giving you a lot of tools and resources to grow your knowledge outside of what she teaches you. She is very receptive to how you as an individual learn which is super great and makes the lesson feel that much more personable. Magen has made me even more passionate to pursue learning sign language. She has also set me up to be successful because of the amazing teacher she is. Thank you so much Magen, and to anyone looking to learn ASL, Magen is the best teacher around!!

"Working with Carla has been incredible! I had a minimal amount of ASL experience before starting lessons and Carla has helped me learn so much in such a short amount of time. She's wonderful at helping you to incorporate what she's teaching into conversations so you can practice using and understanding signs.

I was able to use my short 4 weeks of private lessons on a recent trip where I was able to have a lovely conversation with a member of the deaf community - thanks to Carla.

I look forward to continuing on and developing a much deeper understanding of ASL!"

"Eduardo has been an excellent teacher! I am a psychologist who has always had an interest in ASL and Deaf culture. I had taken some ASL lessons prior to beginning my online classes with Eduardo. I was signing around an intermediate level but I still had difficulty with expanding my ASL vocabulary, signing in ASL word order, appropriate use of facial expressions and being comfortable and confident with my signing. Eduardo has helped me in all of these areas. He is a patient and encouraging teacher but also knows how to challenge and help his students achieve their best! Eduardo is also great at individualizing and tailoring the lessons to meet his students' specific needs. For example, I have always want to to improve my signing so that one day I could be a psychologist who works with individuals in the Deaf community. Eduardo has tailored my lessons to help me learn new medical/psychology terminology in ASL. He also teaches me by guiding me through mock mental health/counseling sessions so that I can practice and get a feel for what it may be like to sign and converse with a Deaf patient. My signing has definitely improved with Eduardo's instruction. I highly recommend Eduardo!"

What are the Different Types of Sign Languages?

Many people are surprised or even shocked to learn that American Sign Language is not universal. However, when you think about how many spoken languages there are across the globe, it makes sense that sign language would be the same. After all, American Sign language is its own language with its own grammar, idioms, and everything else needed to be a language completely separate from English.
