I was born in Paris' suburbs. French is my mother's tongue but it is not enough to be a good teacher. I got a degree in French literature in 2002. I am a patient teacher for all levels, and all ages. Feel welcome to ask for help either for personal or business purposes. Le français est une langue qui a beaucoup de charme, le secret est juste de pratiquer ! C'est facile ! Commençons avec les basiques, puis étape par étape nous progresserons ensemble !

About Jonathan "JC"
Hello! Bonjour!

The way I teach is simple and fun! I am patient and dedicated to your success.

My name is Jonathan. I am a 33 year old French-American man living and working in Minneapolis Minnesota. I will be your teacher today.

I am a happy husband and step-father who moved to Minnesota in 2015 to live with the wife Sophia and 2 kids: Blake and Samara, 15 and 13 (11th, and 8th grade this year).

I have been a professional photographer for more than 14 years now. It is my full-time job. I also practice traditional Indian-Himalayan SunYoga, meditation, acupressure. I have participated in healing cancer patients and all kinds of diseases in 4 different countries (USA, France, Serbia, India).

In 2015, before I moved to the USA, I was the President of a Non Profit Organization called SUNYOGA France, French branch of the main
NPO from India called UNIVERSAL PEACE CENTER, for yoga, research, education, and humanitarian programs. I am now working on creating the American branch of the association. It will be called SUNYOGA AMERICA.

WHAT ABOUT TEACHING? Everybody wants the best. I believe QUALITY is the most important. I also believe each person is UNIQUE and should be treated in a unique way with unique lessons.

What comes first? Question or answer? When we arrive on our first day at school do we have final exams? First the teacher shares knowledge during class. Depending on the teacher's talent, passion, and love for his work, the students will learn something. Then only we have exams.

Hopefully wisdom will come out of this process. All we need is a little support to all grow together.

Teaching is a big responsibility. Parents and teachers, it is our duty to teach the best. Let's do our best together. Thank you.

As a photographer my motto is

I've been teaching French for 6 years and my students have gone on to develop a deep love of French culture, study abroad in French speaking countries, and more! Within the first few lessons, you'll start speaking simple sentences and as time goes on, you'll be able to conjugate like a pro! I typically use the living language books, and have the following tools available for your lessons: recording equipment, worksheets, textbooks, and more. I love working with students of all experience levels and can't wait to meet you!

In middle school, I began taking French instead of Spanish because I wanted to be different. By the time I reached college, I knew I wanted to be proficient in at least one foreign language - so I ended up majoring in it, and spending two years in Paris during graduate school. Languages are fun, and I hope to help my students discover this, too! Look out also for my blog articles in French on the TakeLessons blog.

About Beth
I earned my BA in French with a minor in math from Pomona College, followed by my Masters in French Language Education from the Sorbonne University in Paris. I have six years of experience teaching English and English as a foreign language to middle and high school students.

I have taught private violin and viola lessons since the beginning of 2012. As a member of the Suzuki Association of the Americas, I have completed their violin pedagogy courses for Suzuki books one through four. I have played in various local orchestras since high school, including the San Diego Youth Symphony, the Pomona College Orchestra, the San Francisco Civic Symphony, San Francisco Civic Strings, the West Sacramento Community Orchestra, and the Rancho Cordova Civic Light Orchestra. I also play handbells, and currently play with RiverBells Sacramento.

Mrs. Jen has been a violin teacher for our daughter for 3.5 years. She is an extremely qualified and talented musician who deeply cares about her students and is committed to teaching. She is kind and patient, but also effective and motivating. When our 8 year old daughter learned Mrs. Jen was moving she said, "I probably will never have as neat or special of a violin teacher as Mrs. Jen"- and she's right!

First lesson was fine. We took a few minutes to find each other in a cafe setting but as it was also a meet and greet session I wasn't too concerned about time. As it turns out Beth more than made up the time. She's very pleasant and easy to speak with. We went over my goals, simple traveler type words, phrases and questions, and a work schedule to cover the next several weeks. Beth told me how she was going to approach teaching me after listening to my goals. I'm looking forward to the next session where we can focus on learning the language.

I have vast experience in teaching French as a second language. I taught it for many years in my home country, Portugal, to middle and high schoolers and am currently tutoring the language. I love the sound of the French language and the way it can convey different emotions. French is the language of love, art and literature. Let me help you develop your reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. We will make a great journey together.

About Helena
I am a native speaker of Portuguese and got my degree in English (ESL) and French Teaching in my home country, Portugal. I have been teaching foreign languages and ESL for more than 20 years and am comfortable working with all age groups. I taught 17 years in Portugal (ESL and French; 6-12 grades and Adult Education Programs) and ever since I moved to the US in 2010 (Portuguese and Spanish in a corporation, and tutoring all four languages at home or online). I am a very patient, motivated and enthusiastic teacher and I always adjust my teaching methods to the student's age, needs and purpose. I never give up on a student and I am sure I can help him/her attain his/her full potential. I believe anyone can learn a new language but consistent repetition and refreshing before, during and after class is needed. I expect the student to be resp
onsible, patient and persistent in his learning process and I am willing to help him/her on the way.

I can especially help students who are already studying French, but need additional assistance in mastering the grammar, pronunciation, and usage of the language.

About Julie
I am a professional musician, specializing in traditional American and Irish music and song; I can, however, also teach classical guitar and beginning-intermediate violin. My CD, "American Stranger," has received critical acclaim and I have authored two books on DADGAD guitar for Mel Bay Publications.

I taught myself guitar at the age of thirteen, but took three years of lessons at Washington University, where I also studied English and French. As an adult I became interested in fingerstyle guitar in open tunings, especially DADGAD. I am, however, happy to teach in standard tuning--including basic guitar proficiency, classical guitar, and "folk" guitar.

I have played violin since I was eleven, taking lessons until the age of sixteen and playing in both high school orchestra and the local youth symphony. I later learned to sus
pend much of my classical technique in order to play both old-time and traditional Irish fiddle as authentically as possible; but I still retain my initial training and apply good basic violin technique to my fiddle and (of course) her violin teaching, while tailoring it to the musical idioms of each of students.

I have also studied voice, which again, however, I have never allowed to interfere with my performance of traditional songs--largely because I had developed a traditional approach to the singing of both American southern mountain repertory and traditional Irish song many years before receiving any formal instruction. This training, however, has given me greater insight into how to get the most out of your voice for almost any style.

I also taught myself to play lap dulcimer, basing my approach on the Eastern Kentucky styles associated with Jean Ritchie, Barbara Edwards, and Anne MacFie—that is, primarily using a small dowel stick or noter to sound the melody, and playing counter-melodies for song accompaniments.

My clawhammer banjo-playing is influenced by various Appalachian instrumentalists and accompanists (including Dock Boggs, Clarence Ashley, Hobart Smith, and Lily May Ledford), but my style is also influenced by years of playing with midwestern and southern-style fiddlers.

I welcome students ages 10 or above, and have learned to adapt my teaching style to the individual student, helping each one to make the most of his or her talents and enthusiasms, while emphasizing sound technique and good practice habits.

If you are able to read this, you have already mastered one language. This is called your 'mother tongue'. This is your most valuable resource in learning the way that a foreign language works. From your mother tongue, you will be able to recognize structural/functional similarities and differences that we will take advantage of in order to teach you French. My lessons do not aim to bog down the student with confusing and unnecessary grammatical jargon. Communication is the first priority. I use lots of mnemonics, heuristics and linguistic tricks to help you memorize vocabulary. For grammar, I draw it out of what you already know!

About Will
I graduated from Portland State University with a major in Applied Linguistics and a minor in French. My curious nature led me from my idyllic hometown (Silverton) to live at various times in New York City, San Francisco, Germany, France and China. Through teaching abroad, I was not only able to wend my way into personally enriching experiences, but to be of service. I ultimately found that service to be more satisfying than globetrotting.

I believe that analogy is the driver of cognition. This means that, as a teacher, my job is primarily to orient abilities that the student has already accrued towards new skills in a way that is personally salient for him or her. The most satisfaction I get as a teacher is when I see that my student has incorporated the skill that I was hired to impart, and I have been made obsolete.

The maj
ority of my free time is spent chasing my son, but I sometimes have time to play board games, or binge watch shows with my wife.

I have a PhD in French from Princeton University and six years of teaching experience. I use a variety of methods and exercises to keep lessons fun and new. I have taught beginners, advanced students, and accelerated classes. Regardless of the level, my students make fast progress in speaking, writing, and comprehension. I am proud of the number of students who have told me they fell in love with French in my class. I have also worked extensively with a French-language theater troupe and can help students improve their pronunciation and confidence when speaking in a second language.

About Macs
I am a professor in French with a PhD from Princeton University and a bachelors from the College of William and Mary. I've taught all levels of French at Princeton over the past six years. As a researcher I'm an expert on Paris, street art, and parkour. I can tell you anything you want to know about French architecture. While I don't actually do graffiti or parkour, I do participate in a lot of theater and have acted in and directed plays in French and English. I've traveled all over the world to study French theater, even to Tokyo, and I have come to the conclusion that everyone would benefit from watching theater in languages they don't understand.

Macs was my french teacher for one semester here at Princeton, and I can say without a doubt that he was the best professor I've had here so far!! First of all, I learned an incredible amount of french under his tutelage. Prior to taking Macs' class, I had taken french for a number of years in high school, as well as one semester in college, but I never really came close to conversational proficiency. One semester with Macs helped me progress to that level and more; I was even able to read a novel entirely in French by the end of the class. Secondly, Macs is just a genuine person who truly cares about his students. He met with me one on one several times, both to help me with French as well as to talk about life. Overall, you could not ask for a better instructor!!

Macs has easily been my best and favorite French instructor in my 6 years of taking French. He is easy to understand, very flexible, and extremely dedicated to teaching students to truly learn the language - not just teaching how to do well on tests/exams. His lessons integrate great conversational learning as well as focusing on bettering grammar usage and pronunciation. Overall, learning with Macs was a lot of fun and I would continue my French education with him if I could!

I had the privilege of taking two semesters with Macs while he taught at Princeton, and I learned more French with him than I had in the previous seven years of taking the language. He is a brilliant, engaging, and compassionate teacher who emphasizes the importance of learning about French culture alongside grammar and vocabulary. He is always willing to spend as much time as possible with students outside of class hours in order to ensure that everyone feels confident with the material. He offers constructive and thoughtful feedback, and it is readily apparent that Macs wants his students to both succeed in their studies and love French just as much as he does. I would absolutely recommend him to anyone at any level who is interested in taking French.
