Pre-Algebra is just one of many math topics taught in schools, and I am a patient, creative, insightful tutor for all maths through algebra and geometry.

About Linda
*** Travel Equipment ***
I do not typically provide any equipment - but I am willing to select and purchase books for the students to learn from (cost of books to be reimbursed by the student/parent) when requested to do so.

I am also willing to provide stick-on note-names for the keyboard, for young children.

The students must have their own instruments, and provide a folder for sheet music and notes/instructions.

*** Specialties ***
Guitar, I specialize in the following styles: jazz, rock, blues, folk, bluegrass, and children's songs.
Piano: I prefer electronic keyboard to acoustic piano, but am happy to teach beginning students on a regular piano as well. I teach note-reading, playing by ear, and theory, with en emphasis on rock, pop, and folk music. I include arranging, chord theory, and use of the many features of an elec
tronic keyboard, in the lessons.
Bass Guitar: I teach rock, pop, funk, and country music on bass.
Banjo: I teach bluegrass, country, and some blues and rock music. I can also teach a bit of old-timey frailing/clawhammer style.

*** I am particularly good at working with children who have a.d.h.d. and other learning disabilities!

Linda is easily the most patient and welcoming person I've ever worked with. She has incredible knowledge over a vast array of topics and she is eager to share with others. This, in my opinion, is the most important quality of all teachers. Her lessons have proved a great way to build a solid base in my field of interest. as well as providing me with a well rounded and wonderful mentor that I'm sure to rely on for many other lessons in the future- banjo or otherwise!

About Andrew
Teaching and tutoring has been my calling from early in life. It started with tutoring my friends, up to when I was hired through my high school Calculus class to tutor 10th grade Geometry students.

Since then, I've taught GRE, ACT and SAT prep and I've been a classroom mathematics teacher (from 7th grade to 12th grade) for almost a decade.

I have two specialties that make me fairly unique in the domain of Mathematics and Test Prep teaching and tutoring: First, I help students to understand the topic on a much deeper and more interesting level, by connecting it to related topics and skills, providing historical background, and elaborating on how it's been used and how it's currently used. This makes the material much more interesting, and, hence, much more likely to be recalled it in the future, than when it is taught the standard w
ay.

Secondly, I am well aware of the role test-anxiety and self-doubt plays in the lack of success of some students, so I put a lot of emphasis on the emotional and psychological component of learning and test-taking. With a bachelor's degree in Psychology, I have tools to apply that help students to overcome the debilitating affects of test anxiety, self-doubt, and fear of failure.

Beyond this, I am very personable and can connect with most any student that I teach. I love to help students to learn, and that is readily evident to my students. Some students are intimidated by teachers or tutors who don't know how to connect with the students on a personal level, or how to break things down in a way that makes sense to the student, but that's where I truly excel. Instead of simply repeating myself and wondering why a students doesn't understand a challenging concept, I work to grasp where the breakdown occurs, and then build up from what they do already understand. Through this, I have had unparalleled success throughout my teaching experience, whether it is Math specifically, or Test Prep more generally.

Working with me will not only provide you nearly immediate success, but the effects will carry over well into the future. My teaching is a lifetime investment.

I look forward to meeting you and helping you to overcome your challenges to reach your greatest potential.

Since he is an experienced teacher, I invited Andy to speak to my graduate students in the teacher certification program at Temple University. He was very well received. Andy spoke to the pre-service teachers about classroom management, adolescent development, and test anxiety. His presentation was well organized and engaging, and the students learned much from his words of wisdom and concrete examples from urban teaching.

Andy has been working with our middle-school-aged son this summer, to help him prepare for a challenging Algebra I class next school year. We didn't want to overwhelm our son with endless lessons, so we prioritized finding a tutor who would tailor both his teaching style and the material for optimal understanding. Andy did exactly that. He rapidly got to know our son's learning style, motivations, and concerns-- and structured his lessons to complement them. Andy's deep understanding of math pedagogy enabled him to devise a novel teaching plan that has previewed key algebra concepts with our son, laying a firm conceptual foundation and boosting our son's confidence as the school year approaches.

As parents we are also grateful for Andy's accessibility via telephone and email to discuss our son's progress. He has thoughtfully incorporated our input and input from our son's future schoolteacher.

We are also delighted that our son enjoys his tutoring sessions with Andy, and looks forward to his visits! We highly recommend Andy and are glad that we found him.

Mr. Andrew is an exceptional educator that truly cares about the success of his students. Our daughter was part of his SAT prep
class the summer before her senior year. Mr. Andrew
gave her the skills she needed to improve her test score by more than 200 points. But more importantly than her test score she was confident and comfortable before taking the test. Mr. Andrew provided her with really good insight into what the test preparers were looking for and help to fine tune skills that she has worked during her early high school years. We are proud to say our daughter was accepted at all four of the schools she applied to. She was accepted early decision to Drexel University and will be a freshman there in merely 34 days!!!

Thank you Mr. Andrew we couldn't have done it without you.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~ My Education & Credentials ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I graduated with a degree from UCLA with high honors (Dean's Honors List, Magna Cum Laude) in Integrative Biology & Physiology. I also took many classes at UCLA in education, linguistics, history, and English. I had a cumulative GPA of 3.838 with 265.5 completed units at graduation and was a 10-time Dean's Honors List Recipient. I also was a member of the UCLA Regents Scholar Society, the Alpha Lambda Delta/Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Societies, the Alpha Epsilon Delta Pre-Health Honor Society, and Christian Students at UCLA. I worked as a TA for several undergraduate classes at UCLA, including Education 92F and Life Sciences 2-3. I also have gone through rigorous UCLA and Stanford University graduate-level coursework in science, math, educational strategies, and curriculum & instruction.
I have scored at the 98th percentile on the SAT I/II tests and received the highest score of 5 on multiple AP exams (see below for more details) as a high school student, achieving the AP Scholar with Distinction award by the end of my junior year. I have been the recipient of over $350,000 worth of many university merit-based invitational and scholarship honors and awards. Some of the most notable scholarships I have been awarded are the Regents Scholarship from both UCLA and UCSB. Both provided me with a large monetary award (full-ride), priority enrollment, 4 years of room and board, and many other privileges, honors, and incentives.
The SAT examinations that I have scored at 98th percentile or higher are as follows: SAT I; SAT II - Math 2; and SAT II - Biology (M). I also took many AP exams during high school, achieving the AP Scholar with Distinction award by the end of my junior year. Some of the exams that I have taken include: AP Physics B (Score = 5); AP Chemistry (Score = 5); AP Biology (Score = 5); AP Calculus AB (Score = 5); AP Statistics (Score = 5); AP US Government & Politics (Score = 5). I continuously study and retake the SAT, ACT, and AP Exams to stay on par with both the big and small changes each year to the exams.
~~~~~~~~~~~ My Personal Message to You ~~~~~~~~~~~

One of the wisest teachers once said that poor grades, study habits, and test scores are not life-threatening, but they are college-, job- , career-, and quality-of-life threatening. The most competitive students take a pro-active approaching to academics and tutoring while the least competitive take a reactive approach. All you need to do is watching the documentary 'Two Million Minutes' by Bob Compton to realize why students in other countries such as India and China surpass American peers in almost every subject, especially language (writing, grammar, etc.), math, science, and engineering-related subjects. They attend extra classes and tutoring from 6-7 AM in the morning to almost midnight.

In today's fast-paced and competitive job market, there is simply too much to lose by not investing now in your child's or your education. If a student is struggling, it makes sense to get him/her the help needed so that the time spent in school is worthwhile. Great grades and test scores can open doors that may have been previously closed and are also significant factors when determining scholarships, so investing time and effort now can pay off substantially in the future. Finally, let's not forget the most important part in all of this: the student. The confidence, knowledge, and skills that a student gains through effective tutoring can last a lifetime.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch. Every day spent waiting is another class or lecture's worth of material that you might potentially fall behind or another low quiz/test/exam score that will only make it harder to recover from. I have had too many students who could have received the grade(s) they wanted had they contacted me from the beginning.

I love math, and I try to make it as simple as possible. From what I have seen, if I can teach you and remind of the basics math becomes a 1+1 type of problem.

About Maribel
Hi all, well a little history about my tutoring services. I have been tutorig since I was a junior in High School so why not keep it going? Also, I have experience being in the classroom and know how students feel when they are struggling. You will be in excellent hands as I've been told, "You make it so much easier than the teacher!" I love seeing a student's eureka moment! I am very patient, friendly and I never want to make you feel rushed. At the end of the lessson, I want you to feel you have master the concept and feel like you can teach it to somebody else. I believe that the true beauty of learning and teaching is passing on knowledge to help one another. I have a BS in Biology so I have been exposed to the same frustrations when learning subjects like math and science. Thank you for checking my profile and I hope I get the chan

Ahh! One of my favorite subjects: Mathematics. I graduated from high school with AP Calculus under my belt. Show me your homework or specific subjects in Math that you are struggling with and I will show you the way.

About Daniel
I have a Bachelors degree in Electronics Engineering Technology. I currently run the Computer Lab at an elementary school in Salt Lake City, Utah. I have been running the Computer Lab since the 2013/2014 school year. In the Computer Lab I have been teaching Elementary Math and Typing and Kindergarten through Fifth Grade. In college, I learned math all the way up to Calculus 2. I also type between 60 and 70 WPM (Words per Minute). I speak, natively, the Standard American dialect of English. I also speak the Castillian dialect of Spanish.

Teaching is a recently discovered professional passion of mine. I love working with kids and I relate to them really well. At this writing, I'm currently exploring the world of tutoring and I may expand my list of subjects as I get a better feel for things.

Are you still reading? Great, I'll keep wri
ting. If you know about the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), I'm an INTJ (Introverted iNtuititive Thinking Judging). If you know Astrology, I prefer the Sidereal Zodiac, I'm Aquarius Sun, Virgo Moon, Scorpio Rising. I have passed the Mensa entrance exam.

I'm a gamer, a computer nerd and, possibly, a part-time otaku. I love watching cartoons and Anime, especially action/adventure shows. In World of Warcraft my preferred character is the Worgen/Tauren Feral Druid with the Engineering Profession. I love Sword Art Online, Accel World, Log Horizon and Miraculous Ladybug. I've read Harry Potter, Percy Jackson and pretty much anything mythological written by Rick Riordan. I'm an avid reader of both Young Adult science fiction and fantasy and books that teach interesting and unusual subjects.

Daniel Reavis is a really good teacher. He corrected my math homework to help me get it correct and so I could do it correctly myself. When I got the correct answers to the problems at school, most of them were correct but occasionally I got some wrong. Then again, I went to Challenger School and they were teaching me things that he probably hadn't learned when he was at school.
