I played Snare Drum in the drum line in the University of Alabama Million Dollar Band for four years. I am very experienced in rudimental snare drum and can help you learn the 26 basic rudiments as well as the advanced rudiments, and their application. If you're practicing for a drum line audition, I can help you set up a practice schedule, and we can work on your material together. Set yourself a goal and reach it!

About Stephen
Hi, thanks for visiting my profile! I love teaching. I hope you find this information useful. I have over 30 years of combined education and experience performing and teaching percussion and piano. I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Percussion Performance from the University of Alabama, with Piano as my secondary instrument. I hold a Master's Degree in Percussion Performance from Indiana University, with a Cognate in Jazz Studies. I have taught private percussion, drum set, and piano lessons for over 30 years. I performed for 10 years as a contract percussionist with the Savannah Symphony Orchestra, the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, the Macon Symphony Orchestra, and the Columbus Symphony Orchestra. I have performed in orchestras with accomplished musicians including The Moody Blues (Chastain Park), Judy Collins, and Henry Mancini.

I like my students to have some fun while they learn. I ask that you practice 30 minutes a day, so that you can spend your lesson time learning and moving forward. For piano, I use the Alfred series, as well as the Real Book (jazz standards), and of course sheet music for classical pieces and popular tunes. After three months, you will have learned how to play the basic scales and chords, as well as some introductory classical and popular material. On drums after six months, you will know the first thirteen rudiments and some of the basic rock beats, and you will be playing with some rock ballads. After six months on piano, you will be playing all of the major scales and chords and the basic minor chords. You will be playing some Bach and Mozart, and you will start on some basic jazz standards. On drums, you will have learned most of the 26 basic rudiments, and you will be playing along with some medium tempo rock songs. You will have learned some coordinated independence to start playing jazz and swing styles (which by the way are the building blocks for playing R&B and hip-hop). And you'll enjoy the journey! I enjoy seeing my students grow as they learn. I have had students of mine go on to play in the Spirit of Atlanta Drum and Bugle Corps, get advanced music degrees, and become recording artists. The former Percussion Instructor at the University of Alabama was my percussion student. While I know that not everyone seeks to play professionally, you will learn the tools to play well. I look forward to teaching you!

Note: I will ask for an adult to be present during the lesson for any minor child (less than 18 years of age).

Stephen has been a great piano teacher. Both my boys take lessons from him and they enjoy it bery much. He is very clear about what they need to learn. His lessons are well planned and he’s flexible with the learning styles of each student. Sometime we even called him and asked questions after the lessons and he’s very generous and nice to have spent the time to explain things to the boys over the phone.

I've been studying piano with Steve for about a year. I could not be happier with my progress. Steve not only tunes right in to my needs but makes the discipline fun. He is a talented musician, and it's obvious he enjoys teaching music. I feel very fortunate to have him as my teacher.

I had my first lesson with Stephen today and he is an awesome teacher. I've been teaching myself for the last couple of years and was very nervous about playing in front of anyone. He made me feel very comfortable and picked up my needs quickly. He's very flexible and patient. I have full confidence that he will take me to the next level of reading, performing and theory. I'm exited to have found Stephen and look forward to my next lesson.

About Scott
Hi! I'm Scott. I perform with a one-man band setup I created which utilizes a modified guitar and home-made foot pedals to control a drum set, while I sing on top of it all. I have a recording studio at home, and have performed with bands as a singer, guitarist, saxophonist, bassist, percussionist, and as a sound engineer. I've written, performed and recorded my own album which made it to the 2nd round of the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards, and was a voting member of the Philadelphia Chapter of the Grammy Committee and NARAS (National Association or the Recording Arts and Sciences.) I started piano lessons from age 5 and just kept picking up more instruments and gear as I got older and never stopped learning or enjoying it!

By the end of their first lesson, students will be able to play a basic drum beat along to music!

Drum lessons are structured around the development of four basic skills: technique, groove, reading, and musicianship. Lessons are also flexible enough to be tailored to the interests and needs of each individual student. Most importantly, I make it a priority that the student leaves each lesson having learned how to apply what was taught in a musical setting.

About Michi
Hello!

I've been playing drums for 15+ years and have studied with the following great drummers: Jeffrey Kraus, Peter Jarvis, Joel Rosenblatt, Kimberly Thompson, Dom Famularo, and Stephane Chamberland.

Throughout high school and college, I played in percussion ensembles and rock bands, performing throughout New York City and New London. Currently, I write and play my own music for a solo project called East River Soundtracks.

I offer drum lessons for beginners that cover all of the basics necessary for you to become not only a great drummer but a great MUSICIAN. The curriculum will consist of four main pillars: technique, groove, reading, and musicianship.

I absolutely LOVE this instrument and am excited to help you get started on it!

All best,

Michi

Michi is a GREAT drum teacher! He is very technical and knows how to teach you the basic motions of drumming that will prevent you from become injured as you become more advance. He's also very down to earth and open to modifying lessons to suit your needs - for example... I wanted to learn technique but also how to do basic grooves so I could play along with music on my own and with friends. I learned a lot and had fun hanging out with him. Highly recommend! Thanks Michi!

Jimmie arrived on-time and ready to start. He dove right into getting to know my son and started teaching him on bells and learning rhythm since that`s what my son will be expected to know for his first year of band in the fall.
He was very good at connecting with my son and easily had him enjoying the lesson.
You can tell Jimmie has a passion for teaching children and his face lit up talking about it. He heaped praise on my sons accomplishments and my son said he truly enjoyed the lesson and can`t wait for next week.
I`d highly recommend him to teach your child. I don`t think you`d find someone else with the same passion for children. So glad I made the decision to hire Jimmie and look forward to many years of him being involved in developing my son into a awesome musician.
Thank you Jimmie!

With private teaching experience and a degree in Jazz Composition & Professional Music from Berklee College of Music, Granville adopts the teaching methods of the accomplished performers and educators who instructed him, such as the late Joe Morello(Dave Brubeck), Terri Lyne Carrington (Grammy Award winning artist), Dave DiCenso(Hiromi, Josh Groban) among others.

Granville's curriculum centers on the building blocks; great technique to empower flexibility in his students. He uses methods perfected by Alan Dawson (The Rudimental Ritual), Gary Chaffee (Odd Time Stickings), Sanford A. Moeller (The Moeller Technique), and other great teachers while employing methods he has found successful through his years of teaching. When necessary, music theory elements are employed to teach song form, dynamics and overall musicianship.

About Granville
I operate in the music arena as a touring musician; a Music Director for musicals, jazz ensembles and choirs; a composer & songwriter; a band teacher at my local elementary school, a private instructor and a producer with a degree in Jazz Composition and Professional Music from Berklee College of Music. I am currently performing and writing with Divinity Roxx (Beyonce, Victor Wooten, etc.), Elle Winston, Kate Vargas and others. Most of my writing and creating is done here in my private studio. I am proud to have produced tracks featured by the likes of Elton John on his Beats 1 Radio (Apple Music) station. That is to say, I'm really proud of the artists and having such an inspired space.

I have, and continue to be honored to perform all over the world with some of the most prolific players this planet has seen and those it will experi
ence in the coming years. I find playing music can be a great source of inspiration and release. But most importantly, everyone has a voice to be heard through music.

I have taught privately since I was in high school on my own. Over the years, I have also been affiliated with some amazing entities. Additionally, my work in arts administrative (Brooklyn Academy of Music -BAM, UVA Music) translates into my ability to show you skills that will garnish success when you aren't playing music.

My students can expect growth in knowledge of rhythm, understanding of music and song forms. Your timing will improve! Your feel for styles (blues, rock, jazz, hip hop, EDM, etc.) will improve! Your technique will be through the roof!! I empower my students to do whatever they can dream to do with music, whether it is for personal enrichment or personal ambition.

I will demystify anything you feel is outside of your reach and grow you into the musician you want to be. My private studio is a fully equipped playground for the musically-minded with all the tools and materials you need to grow as a musician, so all you need to bring is your imagination. I look forward to the journey.

I'm like you. I never liked sitting through lessons where they gave you nothing but fundamentals and made you learn genres you did not want to learn. I learn best when I'm learning how to play music I want to play! Over the years I have played in rock bands, orchestras, worship bands, percussion ensembles, and jazz ensembles. After playing in these multiple genres, I have found how to make drums fun and engaging while still learning the fundamentals to succeed quickly. I change my teaching style to suit each of my students, and I honestly believe that it does not matter if you're five years old or 100 years old, learning drums is possible and within your reach!

About Alec
My name is Alec, and I am from sunny and crazy Las Vegas, NV. I have been playing drums since almost eight years old and have played a lot of music. I have performed in rock bands, punk bands, worship bands, drumline, percussion ensembles, orchestras, jazz ensembles, and cover bands. I am a current college student in Phoenix, so I understand how hard it is to learn something. That is why I love to keep an emphasis on helping you, my future student, discover what excites you to learn drums in the first place. Although I learned in a classical setting, this does not mean I'm going to make you play Thelonious Monk and Coltrane (unless that's your thing). While I love jazz and classical, what ultimately got me into drums was wanting to play Metallica and Dr. Dre. Playing the music I wanted to play helped me become the musician I am today. So
if you want to learn how to play U2, Alicia Keys, Keith Urban, Charlie Parker, Dave Matthews, Meshuggah, Kendrick Lamar, Led Zeppelin, or whatever it is you want to learn, I'm going to do my best to help you play what you want to play.

I have been teaching private drum lessons for 5 years and enjoy sharing personal experiences. I have taught lessons to students of various ages and levels and have helped them learn how to read music, obtain good hand posture, develop their techniques and build their free command and independence on the drums. In addition, I can include standard repertoire, sight reading and critical listening. I find that a combination of classic fundamentals and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy their instrument and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. I am very patient with students and parents and enjoy helping them comprehend exercises and musical concepts that they might be struggling with. Finally, I hope to help teach students what it takes to become a great musician as well as how to steer past some common roadblocks.

With all my students, I first assess their skill level, ability and goals to then create a custom lesson program to best suit their needs. ...

Before we get into my lesson structure, a little about me and why I know I can help.

I am a full-time musician and music producer. I started playing percussion in 6th grade, which was 14 years ago. Since then, I've literally immersed myself in music about as much as you can!

I've competed in honor and all-state band for 7 years in a row throughout middle and high school, was 1 of 6 awarded into the Governor's Honors program for percussion in 2010, and was the only recipient of a jazz drum set scholarship at Georgia College in 2011. Our high school percussion ensemble was one of the top competing schools in the state and so was our indoor drumline during 2007-2011.

Music has always been my life. I was INCREDIBLY lucky to have been fostered and taught by some of the most passionate and selfless music teachers in the state. Now that I am old enough to realize it, they literally shaped my life and helped me become the person I am today. What if I can give back in the same way ...

About Joey
Lots of info below!! I'm a jack of all trades! And wanted to be as descriptive as possible for your benefit.

In gist, here's are the skills I can teach you exceptionally well:

- Music Production
- Drumset / drumming
- DJing

Before we get into my lesson structure, a little about me and why I know I can help. Why should you listen to me if I don't know my background? :)

I am a full-time music producer, musician, and DJ.

Our
high school percussion ensemble was one of the top competing schools in the state and so was our indoor drumline during 2007-2011.

As far as music production goes, it's now my main focus. I started learning the ins and outs of music production in high school in 2010. Since then, I've taken courses in music technology throughout college, made music as a hobby, then took the full leap in January of 2016. I'm on the journey now and since that time I've had some pretty amazing things happen. I produce music almost every day, so everything you learn from me is what's current and what works!

Music has always been my life. I was INCREDIBLY lucky to have been fostered and taught by some of the most passionate and selfless music teachers in the state. Now that I am old enough to realize it, they literally shaped my life and helped me become the person I am today. What if I can give back in the same way and help students learn to discover what they truly love?

I DJ as well. It's been amazing to DJ for over 20 weddings in the last year alone. I don't only do weddings, I also DJ around the city in clubs and venues every month. Started with the decks in 2011.

Flash forward to today and I'm hustling harder than ever. After graduating from The University of Georgia in 2015 with a degree in Management and Music Business, and a minor in Music Technology, I am a full-time, touring music producer and DJ. I reside in Virginia Highlands (very safe, family-friendly area) in Atlanta and have my own house, studio, and drum set, in which I can tutor you. In person - or online!

My expertise:

* Drumming / Drum Set
* Music Production (Ableton)
* DJing (Serato)

-----------------------------------------

DRUMS

Because of my extensive background in percussion, I can teach the fundamentals of drumming, whether on a pad or on drum set.

Drumming styles I can teach:
Jazz, Latin
, Funk
, Rock
, Swing

, Metal, Classical

Drumming techniques I can teach:
Syncopation
, Chop-Building Exercises, Coordination
, Double-Bass Drum technique, Rudiments, prep for Honor Band or All- State, scales on the piano

Can even teach you the drum part to just about any song! Yes really, if that's what you want!

Years of teaching experience:
 2

Years of playing experience: +14

---------------------------------------------

MUSIC PRODUCTION

Minored in Music Technology at The University of Georgia.

What I know and can teach:
- Producing tracks start to finish
- Navigating and understanding Ableton
- Using legal samples in your music to help you
- Songwriting
- Mixing your tracks
- Workflow techniques
- Song structure
- Advice from one seasoned music producer to another!

I've been through a lot of work and stressful times to figure out what works and what doesn't. Let my experience be of benefit to you, so that I can shorten your learning curve :)

I've written an article on music production workflow that was published by Heroic Academy. A record label named Gravitas Create interviewed me recently, regarding how to finish music. I can send those to you if you want.

Years of teaching experience: 1

Years of career experience: 3

-----------------------------------------

DJING

DJing and producing music go hand in hand these days. I started DJing in college for fun and for cash as a broke college student. That was back in 2011.

Flash forward to today and weddings, private events, and my own DJ gigs are the main way I make most of my income. I have 4 weddings booked already in October alone, some booked for 2019, and have done over 20 weddings in the last year.

I run my own Wedding DJ business with dozens of 5 star reviews ("OnCue Events" on weddingwire). And the DJ that I sub-contract under is one of Atlanta's top DJ's. Luckily, he was my mentor!

Check my weddingwire profile here if you would like:
bit.ly/oncueevents

If you're not interested in weddings, no fear. Those are great fun and a way to earn some money. But what's even more fun is playing your own shows. I've been lucky enough to have just signed with a booking agency for my artist name, Pure Colors, so I think I can teach you a thing or two about how to slay the dancefloor!

Here's what I know:

- How to DJ in Serato (currently using)
- How to DJ in Traktor
- Ableton DJing (less proficient)

Why I actually know what I'm doing:

I do this all the time. It's taken years of practice to become a great DJ. I used to think it was easy, but I've come to learn that with most skills in life, anyone can be okay and call themselves a DJ. But if you want to really get a grasp for how to professionally DJ, make smooth transitions, beat match amazingly (without using the sync-button...), read a crowd, learn new techniques and prep your tracks, and other things I haven't mentioned, well...

I can help!

Where I've played:

- Aisle 5 (Atl)
- Terminal West (Atl)
- 3 music festivals in 2018, (Athens Ga, Tennesee, Sparta Ga)
- 2 self-promoted events at Speakeasy Atl

A lot of people come out to these shows. Anyway, I hope that helps put some trust in me, that's the point of all this info.

Genres I DJ, and therefore what I can teach:

- House music (deep house, disco house, jackin house, funky house, downtempo house, G house)
- Disco
- Funk
- Pop and Top 40
- Oldschool
- Rap / Hip-hop

Have any questions?

We'll go over all the basics if you're new to it, or I can teach more advanced lessons to those looking to get out of the bedroom and into the club. Let's talk! :)

Always wanted to get into music production for the longest time, so I downloaded Ableton and decided to give it a go....and it looked like hieroglyphics to me. I tried to watch some youtube videos on the matter and it still made no sense. So I did some research and figured that an in-person teacher would probably be my best bet.

That's when I found Joey - and this guy knows his stuff. He's been producing for a few years now and after listening to his music, I could tell he was the real deal. I just started my lessons not long ago, but so far he's helped me in Ableton tremendously. I'm able to understand the various plug-ins, create new sounds when I get that creative "spark" instead of just bumbling around, and now I can actually finish a song.

I fully recommend Joey, he's super patient and has made this process just so much easier for me.

Joey was an awesome teacher for my son. He was able to connect with him and help keep him focused on his drills and lessons. Joey is very reliable and knowledgeable as a teacher. I highly recommend him!
