Gabriella H. Grayslake, IL

I my own twist on the Estill method to help illustrate the different sounds made in classical singing (dark tone, light tone, etc) through diagrams and other visuals of the vocal chords themselves. My technique focuses mostly on the anatomy of the voice but also includes other visuals to help my students place their voice in the proper way to produce the best sounds and to not hurt themselves.

I have been taking vocal lessons for 8 years and been providing vocal instruction and aiding vocal teachers for 6 years now. I am a soprano and can teach both Broadway style and operatic voice. Great

Gabriella has fostered a true love of music in my daughter, while training her with a skill she will have for life. It is a gift I could give my daughter that no one could take away--and I am so very happy we went with Gabriella. She is a gem.

Not happy

This teacher has cancelled a lot and often at the last minute. Not reliable at all. Lessons done in her mother's home which is not ideal and uncomfortable as other family members around. She doesn't want us in the house and never steps out of the house to give us feedback on our daughter's lessons. Very bizarre. Can't even rate teaching skill as she doesn't want us there!

A happy experience

My daughter is taking her first music lessons aside from school, and she is a very happy young lady, looking forward to the next lesson and full of her experiences when she gets home. She told me about learning to breathe properly and demonstrated her new skills. Not bad for so early in the game. This instructor has developed good rapport and helped my daughter explore music in a good setting. I look forward to seeing my daughter bloom and grow in her love of music. Thank you!

Abigail loves her lessons; I suggested to her that she let you know she has a personal cordless microphone & amplifier. I thought the usage of microphone would be cool to use. Of course, this was only a suggestion, what do you think?

Jane H. Chicago, IL

About Jane

I am a graduate of Lawrence University with a BA in Music (Piano) and German. I've played piano for almost 20 years, but in college performed more with voice. In college as a BA candidate I was able to take a variety of lessons, including classical piano (my major), jazz piano, classical voice, and jazz voice. One of my favorite projects in college included a recital comprised of all the types of music I love playing and learning about such as a solo piano piece, a few piano duets, a piece where I sang and accompanied myself, a vocal jazz small group, and a few others. I'm currently working in a jazz trio with a guitarist and trumpeter playing (and singing) tunes from tons of different genres, such as Erykah Badu's "Window Seat", Thom Yorke's "Eraser", Incubus' "Anti-Gravity Love ...

Bel canto instruction and technique with a clear outline of warm up techniques using Kristin Linklater techniques. I am a classically trained singer, familiar with the repertoire, as well as diction in Italian, French, German and Latin. Professional, Effective, and Challenging Lessons

Wendy is probably the most professional and talented voice teacher I have worked with in my time singing. She was able to quickly diagnose and help me begin to address difficulties I was having, but was also very proactive in helping me find repetoire that I enjoyed and that meshed well with my voice and my musical interests. She is extremely knowledgeable about the mechanics of singing, as well as the interpretation of song, and really challenged me to think through my singing in a way I hadn't before. Thanks!
Melodie F. Chicago, IL

A Classical Voice, Opera Voice, or Opera Singing student must be at least 12 years old. Singing lessons are appropriate for ages 5 and older. Opera Voice lessons are the same as Classical Voice lessons, but with an emphasis on building power and endurance.

About Melodie

An adult voice or singing lesson has a minimum duration of 45min. The scheduling options I accept are either weekly recurring or Schedule-As-You-Go. All "recurring" schedules must be on a weekly basis. If you're not taking a lesson at the same time every week with me, then your option is Schedule-As-You-Go, which means each lesson is scheduled on an individual, floating basis, with no standing appointment. I generally recommend the Schedule As-You-Go option for my students. If the student is younger than 18, I must meet a parent/guardian before or at the first lesson. If the child's lesson is in my studio, the parent/guardian must see my studio before or at the first lesson. In my "studio" there is room for one student and one parent/guardian/friend. There is no room for any ...

My lessons with Melodie are everything I hoped they would be. I had the goal of finding my vocal range, defining what type of singer I could be, and developing my voice. She has exceeded all my expectations and I am learning quick. She's very patient, teaches in an easy to understand method, and has a great attitude. Best of all, we have a blast together! I look forward to each and every one of our lessons. Melodie clearly is a practiced instructor and it seems that she would be able to find an effective way to teach anyone. I definitely recommend Melodie!

Great results!

I've have a number of other voice teachers in the the past and have had mixed results and made some progress. Since I started working with Melodie, I have grown so much as a singer and musician. She has greatly improved my vocal intonation, breath control and vocal range. When we work on a particular piece of music her input for better interpretation has always been right on the mark and I am better able to convey the message of the music. in short working with Melodie has allowed me to find my true singing voice. I will be forever grateful to her for her superb musical guidance.
