I've studied classical voice going on 10 years, and I've been teaching classical voice for 4 years. Whether you are just starting out or trying to fine tune your craft, I can help you achieve your goals.

About Sarah
First of all, thank you for taking a look at my profile! I know you probably have a lot of teachers to choose from on this fabulous website. Here are a few reasons why you should study with me!

1) My experience as a teacher: I have been teaching both privately and at music schools for over 6 years. I have experience teaching private voice lessons and conducting choirs.

2) My experience as a performer: I currently sing and perform in the Chicago area. I know how to prepare you for auditions and performances because I myself am performing and auditioning.

3) My students: Several of m
y students can be seen singing in choirs or performing leading roles theaters in the Chicago area. Also, just this past year, I helped one of my students gain acceptance to ChiArts, a performing arts school that only accepts 10% of its applicants.

4) I make it fun! Here is a quote from one of my reviews:
“Exactly what anyone would need to gain knowledge about the mechanics of singing and she makes it fun, too”

It is my goal to help every one of my students:

1) develop a healthy singing technique that will bring longevity to your career or hobby.

2) learn music efficiently and independently.

3) develop good practice habits.

4) learn basic ear training/sight singing.

If that sounds like something you would like to learn, click the green button on my profile to book lessons with me. If you are not quite ready to book, feel free to ask me a question.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
I've been studying voice for 10 years and teaching consistently for over 6 years. I received my M.M. from the Chicago College of Performing Arts and my B.M. from Wheaton College. Since graduating in 2013, I have been working and performing in the Chicagoland area. Some performance highlights include but are not limited to performing with Light Opera Works, CCPA's production of the Chicago Premier of Daron Hagen's Amelia, and performing with the Grant Park Chorus.

I look forward to working with you!

*** Travel Equipment ***
I will provide books. I expect my student to provide a piano.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in operatic singing. I received my training in opera; however, I also have training and performance experience in musical theater. I believe I am well equipped in several genres.

Just had my first lesson with Sarah and I thought it was wonderful! Right away, she pointed out different things that I was never aware of and that I need to work on. I'm looking forward to see how I progress after more lessons with her. She's also very easy-going and a delight to work with.

Awesome teacher! I'm an actor with very little formal singing experience, and Sarah helped me prepare an opera aria for a theatre role. I feel so much more confident, and I definitely sound better.

I have been teaching Opera voice since I graduated from Roosevelt and it's been a long and fun journey. I am always happy to coach classical repertoire as it has a special place in my heart. I even used to run an Opera on Tap, a monthly event for young talented singers and also have some great connections in Chicago classical music scene.

About Val
Whether you are an experienced musician or just in the beginning of your educational journey, I perhaps, can help you to advance you potentials and bring your skills to the next level.

First and foremost I am an expert in teaching voice. Not many teachers in Chicago have clients that are currently topping Billboard charts and get signed by major record labels. I do!!!

I taught in Paris, Barcelona, Dubai and New York and have an extensive experience in working with a wide variety of musical genres including Pop, R&B, JAZZ, Rock, Country, Musical Theatre, Gospel and last but not least Clas
sical, which I can proudly can call my background.

Not only I have been continually developing my own art of coaching and excellence of teaching music to others, but also making much needed connections in the music industry. I am selective who I work with, but I do give a career advice and try to match talent with the best opportunities as they come.

Furthermore, I have a strong expertise in teaching piano, music theory, ear training, orchestration and arrangement.
As a working studio producer myself I have been tutoring a number of domestic and international singers, artists, musicians and bands, and have been helping them to further their projects and careers.

My teaching philosophy revolves around an individual approach. I assist my students with help on discovering their artistic potential and guide them to overcome obstacles to make the most of their training. I provide my students with technique that will last them a lifetime and build up skills that are necessary for a successful career. Not only I nurture my students' natural talents and train them to reach their musical goals. but also persuade them to expand their networks in order to get where they want to be. I welcome motivated and gifted students who would dedicate their focus on polishing their craft to the highest standard in a great learning environment!

For those who are interested in learning piano, and composition, I highly receommend Val. As a insturctor who is very skillful, responsbile, yet has a decency and caring heart. He will adjust to your comfortable level of education with a practical advices and sometimes assignments. Coming from very competetive Russian educational background, he understands a hardship and competetive nature. However, he is one of the few instructors who knows a good balance between a compsure and focused trainning. Having said that, I took a quite short lesson with him due to a limited time, however, I did feel productive and fun with his time. If you are determined to learn, I can tell you he would be the best choice!

I have a M.M. in vocal performance from the Chicago College of Performing Arts and have extensive operatic training. I teach an open throat technique (appoggio) that allows the singer to sing with freedom, and access their entire range evenly. I also work with students to develop style, interpretation, languages, and acting ability.

About Benjamin
I have extensively studied vocal performance and opera for many years and continue to add to my own technique. I have a Master's in vocal performance from the Chicago College of Performing Arts. I have studied other vocal genres, such as jazz, rock, and pop. I have previously taught at The School of Rock in Indianapolis Indiana. I have administered vocal lessons to every voice type at all different levels. Several of my students have recored albums and are currently performing all over the U.S.

I have a bachelors degree in biology with a minor in art. After graduating college, I was a full
-time high school biology teacher, volleyball coach, and director of the school musical. As a high school teacher, I learned first hand the kind of pressure and expectations that are placed on students in order for them to succeed. In college, I was the head student researcher on a two-year lab project. I took several upper level science courses including: biochemistry, calculus, organic chemistry, calculus based physics, cell biology, anatomy, and physiology. I studied marine biology in the Virgin Islands and am CPR certified.

*** Lesson Details ***
Voice lessons with me are fun and effective. You can expect to hear improved technique from day one, eventually reaching your long term goals. I begin every lesson aligning the students voice through various vocal warm ups and exercises. We then work together to pick repertoire that will suit the singer'€™s voice and they will enjoy singing. During a lesson we will also cover performance presentation, acting, diction, rhythm, musicality, style, and interpretation.

During tutoring you can expect a personalized plan based on your goals and aspirations. Since every student is different you can be assured we will come up with a plan that is designed just for you. I am a laid back tutor but will be sure to get the most out of you after our time together. Most students see at least a one letter grade improvement. My main goal for every tutoring session is student learning and comprehension.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Piano, recording equipment, large collection of sheet music

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in helping students find their true singing voice.

Benjamin is great. He goes through a good amount of drills to help learn technique. He also has you record lessons so that you can go through them later. He's been able to explain things with a lot of detail so that I can visualize them and understand how to make my voice stronger. He's really helped me improve in a short amount of time.

I emphasize classical technique from a physical perspective, and lessons are sometimes a body awareness workout. Through this approach, we discover what the student's voice truly is, instead of attempting to mimic popular artists.

Opera Voice lessons are the same as Classical Voice lessons, but emphasizing power, endurance, and opera repertoire.

Prospective Singing students of all levels MUST read the section Your First Singing Lesson, found on the subject page.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
/// Your First Singing Lesson \\\
Singing is good for you. Healthy reasons to take singing lessons include deep breathing, balanced posture, relaxation, and abdominal strength. Additional benefits are confidence enhancement, cultural awareness, emotional expression, memory support, and stress relief. Some people sing to share spiritual joy.

A singing lesson is like a private exercise class. Be prepared to move around, making weird ...

About Melodie
Label me Traditional, or Classical, or even Persnickety, but we all transcend labels. I can perform opera, simplify unifying concepts, teach folk singing, direct a church choir, suggest country repertoire, coach performance charisma, and even officiate a marriage ceremony as a Dudeist Priest. I also bake a mean pie.

I welcome you to consider me, a teacher with decades of experience, for casual yet traditional private music lessons. My residential studio is near the Ashland & Chicago intersection. I teach private lessons in singing, piano, and music theory. As partners, the student and I bui
ld a plan, balancing current aspirations with traditional methods, keeping practical value in mind. I recommend a weekly recurring lesson appointment, but I also allow Schedule-As-You-Go. That means you may schedule a lesson when you want one, subject to availability, instead of holding a repeating weekly time slot.

Singing and Voice:
Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced. All Singing and Voice students must read the section Your First Singing Lesson, found on each subject page. Ages 18-99. Singing and Voice lessons have to be at least 45min long, and are available in my office, online, and maybe off site. Ask about specialized "choir" lessons for individual sessions in choral technique and repertoire. See more details on each subject page.

Piano:
Students can take Piano lessons, IF they already own a piano or minimally acceptable keyboard. If all you have is an unacceptable keyboard, sign up for Music Theory and I can still teach you how to play chords by ear.
DO NOT BUY A "PIANO" with reduced size keys. The width of seven white keys is 16.4cm, and you should also have weighted keys and a sustain pedal. DO NOT try to teach your fingers to play piano on anything that has "full size keys" (which is a LIE) that measure 15.9cm. The retail store person is probably clueless, so take something to measure the keys with.
I teach beginning up to intermediate. Ages 18-99. Available only in my office or maybe off site. I don't teach piano online. See more details on each subject page.

Music Theory:
Rudimentary and Beginning students only. Ages 18-99. Available in my office, online, and maybe off site. See more details on each subject page.

Prices for my office in Chicago near 800N/1600W, or online: (where available) 30min for $30, 45min for $41, 60min for $50. If you live within a mile of the Chicago Ave / Ashland Ave intersection we can discuss the possibility of me coming to your location for an additional $15 per lesson. You may ask about ages 7-17 or group rates for your location.

SOME IMPORTANT DETAILS TO CONSIDER:
- My home is not child proof. I am not prepared to welcome children into my home.
- The apartment is a high 2nd FLR walk-up.
- If you use too much fragrance of any kind I will refuse to breathe in your vicinity.
- Unless you are that person's legal guardian please do not purchase a surprise gift of a new student lesson package with me. Students need to make the decisions for themselves to begin lessons with me specifically.
- If you don't have a place to practice singing, don't take singing lessons. If you don't have regular access to a piano, or at least a minimally acceptable keyboard, don't take piano lessons. You can take beginning theory lessons with a plastic recorder flute, if that's all you've got, but a polytonal keyboard is much better.

You, and all students, must ACCEPT THE STRICT CANCELLATION POLICY. There is no makeup, rescheduling, or refunding of any lessons no-showed or cancelled later than 24hrs prior. Students can provide excuses (like acute illness) and request forgiveness for late cancellations, but expect no mercy for no-shows. Officially, if you have a lesson scheduled in less than 24hrs and you haven't already changed or cancelled it, you are paying for it unless I'm the one that changes it.

Check out my links, and make some decisions. I might be the instructor you're looking for.

Whether you are fresh out of undergrad, or already working in the field, I can help you hone your technique, choose the right repertoire for your voice, and prepare to audition effectively! I am both an actively working singer and a director and administrator, so I have experience from both sides of the table that will help you get to the next level. In addition to vocal technique work, I can coach French, Italian, German, and Spanish diction at a precise level, and work with native and non-native English speakers alike on clarity of English text delivery, including singing with regional accents.

About Claire
I'm a classically trained soprano with degrees from the University of Michigan and the University of Louisville. I have taught privately and as a member of the Vocal Music Faculty at both the University of Louisville and the Kentucky Governor's School for the Arts. Former students of mine are now being offered full scholarships to Voice Performance programs, roles in local productions, and are working as professional music educators. As a singer, I have appeared in operas, concerts, recitals, and musicals across the country and maintain an active performance and audition schedule.

I spe
cialize in classical voice, including opera, operetta, art song, and contemporary classical repertoire. I'm also comfortable incorporating musical theatre and other non-traditional repertoire into lessons. I have conversational facility in French, and can coach diction of French, Italian, German, and Spanish at a highly specific level. I am very comfortable working with students for whom English is not their first language.

As a very experienced auditioner as well as audition panelist, I hope I can be of particular service to students preparing for auditions, be they professional, college, grad school, or community theatre.
