Having played music for as long as I can remember (my father is an accomplished Jazz and Soul drummer), music has always been a key ingredient in my life. From playing the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles theme on the drum set as a toddler, I have gone on to learn electric/classical/lap steel guitar, electric/upright bass, various keyboard instruments, most percussion instruments, and many old time instruments such as banjo, mandolin, dulcimer, and harmonica. I'm currently teaching myself viola.
In addition to the performing aspect of music, I am also experienced with writing/composition, recor
ding/engineering/mixing/production, and design/manufacturing/distribution/vending of my own albums as well as those of others. However, none of these things bring me the same joy as teaching the ways of music to others. Fortunately, all of these skills integrate to bring about a clear view of the big picture in regards to music so I can better serve a wider variety of pupils and quickly reveal this big picture to all of them.
While I have indeed put a lot of time in touring and playing rowdy rock shows with many critically acclaimed and well-known musicians, I have also taken countless years of public and private lessons on guitar, bass, drums, piano, music theory, and songwriting from highly decorated and regarded teachers. As a child, I played in a nearly overwhelming amount of ensembles and attended various camps and seminars including Cannon Music Camp where I played with The North Carolina Symphony for two consecutive summers. This all prepared me for the Bachelors of Music I received from Berklee College of Music where I appeared on the Dean's List each semester. Now for the price of one instructor, you can learn from a man with as much knowledge as an entire faculty.
*** Lesson Details *** Whether you are a veteran trying to improve your chops, a beginner just looking for learn songs off the radio, or someone who wants to take the full plunge of understanding music in and out in hopes of renown mastery, I can do it all and more. Books? No books? You will be taught however you like at whatever speed works best. I provide a friendly, low-pressure atmosphere that will allow you to feel comfortable enough to reach your full potential. We will be having such a good time, you will forget to even be nervous!
Any genre you can name, I have taken at least a hearty sample of it and can instruct you in this vein with ease and insight. I also love to introduce my students to entirely new influences as well. There is more amazing music out there than you would think and even more to be created in the future. Come get in on it!
*** Studio Equipment *** Private recording studio with guitars, basses, drum set, keyboards, amps, and an array of recording equipment. Seating for parents may be arranged as well. Guitar and bass students must bring their own guitar or bass. Sorry for any inconvenience, but DRUM LESSONS ARE ONLY AVAILABLE "IN-HOME."
*** Travel Equipment *** Students must have their own equipment, so they can practice on their own. For guitar and bass lessons, I will also bring my own guitar or bass to give them visual cues. For drum lessons, I will bring my own bag of sticks.
*** Specialties *** All genres and techniques may be taught. My wide range of knowledge and years of experience within the realm of independent music set me apart from the rest, but my passion for developing your relationship with music is what you will remember.

Great Beginner Guitar Lessons
I look forward to my weekly guitar lessons with Chaetan because he is a very knowledgeable, relaxed, and patient teacher. He tailors my lessons to meet my personal goals (learning those pinnacle acoustic songs). But as an exceptional instructor, he also guides me to meet goals he has for me as a student, such as learning to build chords on my own. The quality of his instruction has already increased my progress on the instrument. Overall, his talent and interest in music motivate me to practice so I am fortunate to have found Chaetan as my guitar teacher.

Excellent and Unique Teacher
Chaetan is a very friendly instructor who tailors his lessons to meet both the experience level and type of music a student is interested in. Chaetan has a lot of energy and makes the lessons fun. He appears to know every aspect of what he is teaching as well as plays other instruments. My daughter and I are both very happy with Chaetan.
I play, write, record and perform a variety of American popular music forms including rock, folk, blues, funk, bluegrass, country, fingerstyle guitar, and jazz.
I began my musical training learning drums as a 12 year old and a year later began private lessons on guitar as well. In the following years, while playing in rock bands and focusing primarily on guitar and continuing practice on drums, I became interested in learning other instruments: I took harmonica lessons and taught myself how to play bass guitar and keyboards. As a teenager I also began writing my own songs and teaching my
self how to record music. I also play Spanish flamenco guitar and studied with master flamenco players while living in Madrid, Spain.
Today, I play guitar, harmonica, sing and write songs for my own group, while also working on a variety of other recording projects that reflect my various musical personalities. I love everything about music, and there's nothing I enjoy more than sharing music with others, whether that be playing in a group, going to a concert with a friend, or talking about music with one of my students. One of my greatest joys is seeing others get involved in the world of music by learning to play an instrument, so I take great pride and responsibility in teaching my students and I hope to make that experience as positive and rewarding as it can be for everyone I work with.
*** Lesson Details *** I am happy to work with students of any age regardless of prior experience or ability. Music is the universal language. Everyone is welcome.
Check out my new song samples for a taste of what I do. All instruments, vocals and production done by me at my home studio.
My approach: I take a multi-disciplinary, multi-instrumental approach to teaching music. I feel that today's students are very interested in learning more than just one instrument, style or discipline. One of my greatest assets as a teacher is that I can play and teach guitar, bass, drums, harmonica, keyboards, songwriting, and audio production/engineering, or any combination thereof, to a student that is interested in becoming more than just a guitar player.
That being said, my musical experience centers primarily on the guitar, and that's where I prefer to start teaching my students. And if you only want to learn guitar, we'll just stick with guitar. However, if you want to learn other instruments too (guitar and drums; guitar, bass, and harmonica; guitar, keys and drums; etc.) we will work together to create a program that allows you to achieve all of your musical goals in time.
No matter what, the bottom line is this: you determine the direction of your musical education. The first time we meet, we will talk about your musical interests and goals, and from that conversation I will design a curriculum that fits your personality, needs and desires. I work with each of my students to determine and constantly refine his or her path, and as we follow your path I will work to give you all the tools needed to pursue your goals...and if I can't give them to you I'll help you find someone who can. I know my limits as a musician and teacher and I will always be honest with you about those things. For example, if you decide you want to be a jazz guitarist, I can get you started on that path, but once you advance beyond my limits (I love jazz, but it's not my forte), I will help you find a teacher who better fits your needs and goals.
Finally, I have always felt that music should be fun and there's no reason that learning to play an instrument can't be fun too. That doesn't mean it won't be hard work, because, like anything else in life, as you get deeper into music it will not only become more rewarding, but more challenging too. Still, it should always be fun. I understand that each student is unique and what "fun" means for one student may be different for another, and so we will work at your pace and according to your goals and desires to create a program that is ideal for you.
I use a variety of teaching techniques and tools in my lessons and will cater those tools toward the needs of each student. You don't need to read music to learn how to play an instrument, but I do use a number of simple, easy-to-learn written methods in my teaching. More importantly, I encourage my students to learn how to "hear" music so that as they advance they can begin to teach themselves how to play the things that they hear. Therefore, much of my teaching method focuses on seeing, hearing and feeling the music...this is the way almost all popular music has been taught and learned since the beginning of time, and with the right supplement of written methods I think it still comprises the most effective way to become a complete musician.
I can also record every lesson for my students and make the recording available as a CD or mp3 via email so that you can listen to the lesson as you practice on your own at home.
Additionally, if you are interested in songwriting or audio recording, we can incorporate lessons on those subjects into your curriculum as well. Understanding both is an essential part of being a well-rounded musician in any genre these days and both fields can open up wide worlds of expression and artistry to those willing to delve into them. I am passionate and knowledgeable about both songwriting and recording.

I am completely new to playing an instrument and Will taught me an incredible amount... from playing the instrument, to understanding music theory, to listening and understanding some of the great musicians. He takes a holistic approach to his teaching and the 45 minute sessions are done before you know it. He makes it fun and comfortable, which is important when you are just learning. I recommend him if you are at any level.
JasonK April 6, 2011
I've had a few lessons with Will, and it's going great. He's tailoring the lessons to my skill level and my goals unlike any class could. Thanks.
I have been teaching beginner to professional of all ages for eighteen years. My students all have positive experiences and have given me great feedback!
I have been working as a freelance musician and private instructor in Chicago for fifteen years. During this time I have been hired to perform Jazz, Rock, R/B, and world music. As an instructor I have maintained a studio of five to twenty students on a weekly basis. I hold a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Northern Colorado in Percussion Performance, and a Master of Music degree from De Paul University in Jazz Studies.
*** Lesson Details *** With committed weekly practice there are no limits to a student's potential. I like to use the term guide to describe my teaching
style. In a relaxed atmosphere, the student and I are working together to advance their musical goals. Sometimes goals are reached quickly, more often we need more time and repetition to advance. The mind learns quicker than the body, so focused practice will help train the body and bring it to the mind's level.
*** Studio Equipment *** Finished Basement studio: drum set, snare drum, small mallet, xylophone and electric piano, room for parents to sit in on lesson
*** Travel Equipment *** Student should provide sticks and mallets and purchase a book that we will work out of weekly.
*** Specialties *** I feel comfortable teaching all levels of percussion. I have experience teaching a variety of styles Jazz, rock, classical, and world.

**Excellent** drum instructor, highly recommended
Jeff is everything you'd want in a drum instructor: he is highly skilled, has thorough knowledge of drumming styles and technique, and he is an excellent communicator. On top of that he is thoughtful, polite and listens carefully. This is all a very, very rare combination.
I had to play a couple of slow gospel tunes for a church service this summer; Jeff very quickly found suitable and tasteful grooves for me that were within my capability to play. He also worked with me on some rudiments and provided invaluable feedback. I can't recommend him highly enough.
CarmenB3 April 10, 2012
Jeff is a very good teacher, he's very kind and takes everything step by step. I love the way he works with me and im doing great progress because of him.
I have experience teaching all ages and sill levels. I have taught students ranging from age 5 to adults.
I am a graduate of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music with a bachelors in jazz drum set performance. I have toured with various bands in the US, Asia, and Europe and recently completed six months of teaching, studying, and performing music in Brazil. I teach all levels and all styles of music, from Rock to Jazz to Latin-American rhythms. In my lessons I maintain a healthy balance of drum basics (rudiments, stick technique) and helping the students learn the music that would like to play. Learning the fundamentals gives students the tools they need to be creative as possible. I can prepare stu
dents for school band and jazz band auditions as well as prepare them to play in a band of their own!
*** Lesson Details *** I always spend a good part of each lesson working with students on fundamentals. These usually include drum rudiments and the book "Stick Control." I also like to spend a portion of the lessons focusing on the student's own musical interests and teaching them to play the drum parts from songs they like. If the student is in or aspires to be in a band, whether it be a garage band with friends or the school jazz band, I can help the student develop the necessary skills.
Above all, I strive to make my students excited about music and to inspire them to work hard towards accomplishing the goals that we set together.
*** Travel Equipment *** Drum Sticks, Books, Practice Pad or Snare Drum with stand (if necessary)
*** Specialties *** Rock, Funk, World Rhythms, Jazz, Blues

Learn the fundamentals and how to groove
Peter is one of the best drummers I know. I had the opportunity to take lessons from him a couple years ago and he gave me the tools I needed to feel comfortable and confident on a drumset. He stresses proper technique and rhythmic precision. He also showed me how to play grooves I wanted to learn. A great all around musician and teacher. Highly recommended.
I have been teaching drum lessons full time for 11 years. My main goal as a teacher has always been to give every student a solid foundation in the fundamentals of drumming. This includes both the mental and physical aspects. Mental includes both reading music and playing by ear, and physical includes proper technique and coordination for both the hands and feet. Once you become proficient in the raw materials of drumming you will be able to learn any style of music you want.
My approach to teaching is very focused on giving students a strong foundation in the fundamentals of music. For drums this would be reading and understanding rhythms, proper technique which includes both hands and feet for drum kit, snare drum which I believe is the foundation for everything, and practicing with a metronome. Having a good solid foundation in these things will give you the tools necessary to learn any style of music you choose with much more ease and confidence. I know this from my own personal 26 years of experience and also from the success of my former and current students
who have this foundation.

You can count on Andrew to always give you his all. He is actually the only drum teacher that I endorse. Not only is he immensely talented in all areas of percussion, but he has the communication skills and personality critical for an effective teacher. He truly cares about his students and he will go the extra mile if there is something in particular you want to focus on. If you are passionate about learning the drums or simply want to get better, he will take you in the right direction.
On numerous occasions after shows, people have asked me who my drum teacher is, they tell me I have very good form and look relaxed while playing. I learned everything I know from Andrew and I am so thankful for his guidance because he is responsible for all of my progress.

Andrew is excellent. He has a gift for relating to our 16 year old son, complementing his interest and gift in music. The result? our son has not only has improved skill, but also the understanding and passion that drive commitment and excellence. Andrew is always professional. He communicates well with both parents and students. Our son has various social challenges and Andrew seems to effortlessly create communication and progress. The result? We see benefits from Andrew's coaching both on and off the drums:)

Andrew is simply the best. Our 11 year old son has been taking drum lessons for a couple of years now; has a great experience at every lesson; and looks forward to Andrew's knock on the door every week. I cannot say enough about Andrew's enthusiasm, ability to relate, and knowledge of his craft. As a past professional opera singer I've been coached by some of the best in the business. Andrew is right up there and he is especially talented in his ability to work with younger people. My son took to him like glue to wood. If you employ Andrew as an instructor you will absolutely not be disappointed.

My 7 yr old has been taking drum lessons with Henri for aobut 2 months. He is always excited to go, and never wants to leave at the end
. He is learning rhythms and other drum basics. Henri is great at keeping him on track, but allowing for enough fun/free play as well. It is great that Henri has two drum kits so they can both play the whole lesson."

"Excellent quality of instruction!
I'm a 37-year-old drum student and I find this class very well organized. Mike comes to class very well prepared for ea
ch lesson and I don't feel that he goes too fast or too slow. The speed of the lesson is just perfect! I like being challenged and he does just that. At our 7th lesson, we started learning a song from my fave band, Guns n' Roses, and we're having so much fun!
I like very much that he has his own lessons printed for me to take home and practice. He is very good at writing down the "homework" for the week, which is pretty much what he feels I should practice on from what we have learned during the lesson. Everything he teaches prepares me for the next lesson.
In addition, one great thing about his studio is that I get to play on actual drums while he sits at another drum set in front of me, and via microphone and headsets, he teaches me the patterns. He is very enthusiastic about each lesson and I go home wanting to go straight to my drums and practice! No matter how tired I may be after a long day of work.
In every single aspect, the quality of instruction is excellent! I'm very glad to have found Mike on TakeLessons.com."

"Awesome Teacher - Definitely would recommend
Michael has been a great teacher to my 5-year old. My son and I both came to him with no experience with dru
ms/music education and Michael was able to teach my son in a way that was fun and kept the attention of a 5 year old, while still being able to grasp the concepts and foundations of music. As a parent, I admired his enthusiasm and excitement of my sonâs progression. He is very passionate about what he does and it is exemplified through his lessons. My son truly enjoys the lessons and even practices on his own throughout the week and this is definitely attributable to Michaelâs instruction style and passion for his craft. I would absolutely recommend Michael as a teacher."

"Fantastic Teacher for Kids
My 8 year old son has been taking drum lessons from Thomas for about 4 months and he very much enjoys it. What I really like a
bout the lessons is that Thomas custom designs the next lesson based on how the student is performing in the current lesson. His homework assignments are very detailed which is great because I, as well as my son, know what he should be practicing during the week. I can definitely see a big improvement since my son started and I have no doubts he is getting a solid foundation in drums as well as music theory. Thomas is a super nice guy and very patient which makes him fantastic for kids. My wife is a music educator and she is just as impressed with Thomas as I am. We highly recommend him."

"I'm an older student with no ambitions of making drums a career at this stage in my life. I just wanted to learn what I had been putting of for decades an
d become a respectable amateur. Keith starts with the fundamentals and mixes in a bit of "fun' now and again to keep things interesting. His experience is evident and he tailors the lessons to the student's skill level and goals which is important since no two students are alike. While not directly relevant to me, his industry experience and the stories he shares are fascinating and keeps the lessons interesting. There is more to music then just notes on a page.
