BA in Actuarial science from Baruch College
My name is Mena. I have a strong background in math with a degree in Actuarial science and have been tutoring the SAT, ACT, common core Algebra 1, 2, and Geometry for over four years. I have extensive knowledge of the testing strategies needed to make the exam fun and easy. I work with students to find areas that need strengthening then work patiently with them to hone their skills. Successful test preparation is largely about demystifying the test through time spent learning the correct approach which I have years of experience doing, with that confidence students can achieve any score they set their minds to.
hello, my name is Mena, I'm a high school math teacher, and I have been tutoring Common Core Math, Algebra I & II, Geometry, SAT, ACT, and Grade school math since 2012. There is nothing I enjoy more than teaching watching my students succeed. Math is an easy game when you know the game rules. I

My math lessons are unique in that I develop a connection with students that allow them to feel comfortable telling me "I don't understand." This is often the hardest barrier that parents believe their child has when being taught, and I'm often warned by the parent before I arrive that the student fakes understanding around his teachers or other tutors. But being 23 years old allows me to be a teacher and a friend at the same time and I feel that this smaller age gap between student and teacher is what makes them feel comfortable opening up to me, which they do with ease. After tutoring over 30 students in math ranging from middle school arithmetic to college calculus 2 to adults taking qualifying exams, I have been confidently able to identify exactly how the students are processing their math assignments just by watching them try to solve a single problem. After that, I just focus on correcting their way of thinking. My goal of tutoring is for the students to not need my help ...

I've had a book published and have written for a multi-national newspaper. I also got A grades right up until I finished college with English Literature and Creative Writing. I also have done numerous public speaking engagements and have studied acting and theatre with A grades all the way through college.
My style of teaching is very relaxed and informal, I want students to feel they can be equals with me, and gain confidence and be proud of their work. I set homework but I also encourage students to get creative in their own time and to show initiative! Reading is vital to growing your knowledge and also for confidence and speaking in public.
Lessons can involve looking at literature and different styles of writing, as well as finding something that sparks the imagination and interest. I work especially well with young teens and pre-teens, as well as those who are looking to further their reading skills.
I also look at Shakespeare and modern plays, as well as screenplays, ...

Business is inherently practical. The simplest of ideas tend to yield the biggest profits or influence. My goal is to help students achieve their goals in theory, in practice, and in BAD's (Big Audacious Goals). Some people may need help understanding concepts while others need help forming a business model. My specialty is thinking outside the box while applying practical and current theory.
