I have been playing bass guitar for 16 years and have experience with jazz (big band and combo), pit orchestra, folk, pop, and rock settings. Our first lesson will begin with a quick assessment of your musical background, experience with the instrument, and your musical goals. Your next lessons will build on that foundation to support the goals you want to achieve.

Whether it's starting a band with friends, getting stronger on technique, or learning how to play in a new style or genre, we'll work together to reach your goals!

About Justine
I love music and believe in its ability to bring people together. It's been a part of my life since I was 5, practicing piano at home in Michigan.

Music was a big part of every single one of my school years, and I was lucky enough to be able to double major in music and psychology at Kalamazoo College once I graduated from high school.

My passion for music has taken me abroad, to London, where I studied Western & Russian art music and took classes in popular music studies at Goldsmiths College, University of London.

It spurred my move across the country to New York, where I developed a better understanding of how important creativity is to all of us -- especially musicians! -- at Teachers College, Columbia University.

And, most importantly, it's allowed me to do what I love from my home in San Diego, teaching privately both i
n-person and online. I've recently moved to private teaching full-time and couldn't be happier!

I'm excited to get started with you and help you set and reach your musical goals!

*** Online & In-Person Lesson Details ***
It's most important to me that you are excited and motivated about your music lessons! I am a flexible instructor and am always open to hearing your ideas for songs. After working together to identify your beginning knowledge of music and your instrument, we'll progress from song to song to develop your musical abilities.

All of my online and in-person lessons begin by warming up with a quick exercise, scale, or even an improvisational activity. We'll use the music you love to develop your guitar technique, learn new chords, and sharpen your listening skills.

You'll gain an understanding of what makes the music work and why the notes, rhythms, and harmonies are what they are.

The music we study can also serve as inspiration for creativity. I may ask you to come to the next class with a short composition of your own or we'll finish a lesson by improvising together on related musical themes.

I'll do my best to make my expectations for you clear and at the end of every lesson, we'll go over what we accomplished together and make sure you understand what to work on before our next class.

*** Additional Online Information ***

Online lessons can be just as effective as in-person lessons for teaching you the basics of your instrument, developing technique, and achieving your musical goals! I'll use screen sharing to display music, chords, and scale charts during the lessons. Materials will be emailed to you as well for you to use at home. And communication is extra important when it comes to online lessons; because I can't make physical adjustments, I'll often assess how you hold your musical instrument and describe how you can make the adjustments yourself.

Please note that a high-speed internet connection is needed in order to make sure that we can see and hear each other appropriately. In addition, I expect that you will be able to provide your own musical instrument (and amplifier, if you have an electric instrument) to use during the lesson.

*** Additional In-Person Information ***
I teach my in-person lessons from my home office with comfortable seating for both students and parents. I expect that you will be able to provide your own musical instrument to use during the lesson.

I will have music stands available for use during lessons and will accompany and demonstrate on my musical instruments. I will have an amplifier and cables, but if you prefer to bring your own amplifier you can do that, too!

Please note that I have two cats; they'll be in an enclosed room away from where we will have lessons, but if you have cat allergies this may not be a good fit.

About Lucian
Lucian W is an alumnus of Berklee College of Music in Boston and former faculty member of the Hartford Conservatory. His vocal studies have been with Jacqueline Jarrett and David Baker in Connecticut, Jane Ellison at Loyola University in Montreal, noted operatic tenor Carmine Gagliardi in New York City, and Gina Moretta (whose students have included Gloria Estefan and Jon Secada) in Miami. He studied privately with world famous jazz guitarists George Benson and Chuck Wayne and has had a full time performing career of several decades as a guitarist, pianist, vocalist, bassist, arranger and orchestra leader.
Lucian believes that by sharing his enjoyment of making music with his students, he can give them confidence in other areas. That is because, in order to make music, they must go through a process of physical discovery through pr
actice. They are then empowered by experiencing the connections between inspiration, work, and pleasure.
He performs, as a solo entertainer, an unusually wide ranging repertoire because of his versatility on guitar, piano, and vocals. Being an accomplished arranger with a vast library of charts also allows him to lead a ten piece orchestra as competently as a trio or quartet. He has performed extensively in New York, Chicago, Cape Cod, and Florida.

*** Lesson Details ***
I always try to make lessons as comfortable and enjoyable as possible yet challenging enough to maintain interest. I build lessons around the student's individual interests (specific songs or styles) so that he or she can learn the technical fundamentals in a relevant context.
My own curriculum is supplemented by the following:
Guitar: Hal Leonard Guitar Method, Aaron Shearer Classical Guitar Method
Piano: Alfred's Basic Piano Course , John W. Schaum Piano Course
Voice: Jeffrey Allen's Secrets of Singing, Nicola Vaccai Practical Method

*** Studio Equipment ***
Hardman baby grand acoustic piano
OptimusMD1600 electronic keyboard
Crate TX50D guitar amplifer

*** Specialties ***
- Singing lesson time is generally divided 50/50 between voice building and repertoire. I accompany vocalists on both piano and guitar, teaching the melody notes as they are sung along with the piano. Then, once the melody is learned, I often switch to the guitar with just chordal backing. The acoustic guitar is also softer than the piano and lets the singer hear their own voice better. For voice building, I use my own concepts plus approaches of famous voice teachers like Jeffrey Allen, Seth Riggs, and Anthony Frissel.
- I am very experienced performing all styles of guitar and can cater to the student's specific area of interest, whether it be rock, folk, classical, or jazz.
- With piano, I work on fundamentals of reading and technique. Learning basic harmony and chord construction starting with triads (3 note chords), the student can soon read single stave lead sheets (a form of music notation widely utilized by professional musicians) as well as the grand staff. This approach trains the ear and makes learning how to play popular songs much easier.

Lucian has a life time of experience as a practing musician, and also has been teaching for many years. I've had other guitar teachers, but Lucian is great at explanation and practical instruction. He's not just teaching you how to strum chords, but also about music theory.

He has the patience, and demeanor that is perfect for teaching. No easy task. I've seen other students of all ages here as well.

Great teacher

I don't feel dumb when I am learning information I hadn't known before, but instead he helps me feel like he is simply sharing his knowledge so that I can fully understand it, regardless of how complex it may initially seem. His prices are great and he's a great person. I highly recommend him if you are looking to learn an instrument!

I've been teaching bass for 8 years. I tailor lesson plans to help each individual student reach his or her goals. I teach the importance of groove and locking in with a kick drum when playing in bands, and believe a good foundation in proper technique makes for the best bass players.

About Victoria
My name is Victoria. I'm originally from beautiful San Diego, California, but I am now a full time professional musician based out of Philadelphia. I've instructed students (of varying ages and backgrounds) from all over the country on bass, guitar, live performance, and song writing. This includes one-on-one instruction and group lessons. I received a certification in live performance, studio work, and songwriting through The Contemporary Music Center, now located in Nashville, TN. And I I Finished my Bachelor's degree at Eastern University

I've toured all over the country with acts such as Talain Rayne and played bass on his album "Attic Lights." I also completed an internship in Nashville, TN with hit songwriter, Kate York.
For the past five years, I've played with the band Element K (under Shore Bets booking agency) as the lead
singer and guitarist. I've played shows all over the Northeast including (but not limited to) Xfinity Live, Wells Fargo Center, Hard Rock Cafe, The Tin Angel, Borgata AC, Ballys, Tropicana, and Seacrets in OCMD.
I love music and the role it has played in shaping my life. I value the experiences and wisdom passed on to me by my music mentors and instructors, who not only had a meaningful impact on my music career but also immensely influenced my development as a person.
I look forward to having that same positive impact on any student I instruct :)

*** Lesson Details ***
I like lessons to be, first and foremost, an enjoyable experience for everyone involved. I try to create a laid back and comfortable learning environment for all my students. Music is fun, and I guarantee that there will be plenty of good times while taking lessons!
Now, let me also clarify that my positive attitude and laid back demeanor are not excuses for students to be undisciplined and uncommitted. I promise to work hard toward your development as a musician to make you the best you can be, and I appreciate the same commitment from all of my students.
Music should be enjoyable, but also rewarding and enriching to your life! I don’t want to sell that short!

Below is a basic rundown of what a student can expect to learn while under my instruction. I would first like to preface this information by saying that I fully recognize that every student is different; therefore, I tailor lessons to fit an individual’s needs and goals. Because of this, the priority of certain skills tends to vary from one student to another, as does the order in which this skills are taught. I also want to note that I tend to use some self-made resources (charts, explanations, etc) in addition to published books. Taking into consideration the aforementioned variables, here is the basic rundown of the material I try to cover with students, in the general order it is taught:

-Understanding of guitar parts (anatomy of the instrument) and basic terms (ie note, chord, etc).
-Names of strings (E-string, B-string, etc.) and corresponding numbers for strings (1-6), and which fingers are given what numbers.
-Tuning of the instrument
-Basic technique (how to finger a fret board, hold guitar, hold pick, etc).
-How to find notes on the fret board/chromatic
-Basic rhythm concepts and counting (whole notes, quarter notes, time signatures, etc)—usually involves clapping exercise, single note playing exercises, reading rhythm charts, and learning what different note values look like.
-Basic concepts of “keys”
-Basic major and minor scales (especially for “warming up”)
-Chords (mostly basic open chords)
-Strumming
-Learning songs to put concepts together
For more advanced students, we will likely get into the following:
-Power chords, bar chords, and complex chords beyond majors and minors.
-Scales beyond basic majors and minors
-Music theory (chord construction, modes, etc).
-Knowledge of gear (for those guitarist who wish to branch out to electric guitar)—bass players will already have to know some of this before moving to more advanced work since they already require an amp.
-How to play with other musicians and instruments (collaboration, listening, understanding each instrument’s part, etc).

[To give students a basic timeline for these skills, one can expect to be playing open chords within three months and probably their favorite songs within 6 months]

SONGWRITING TEACHING METHODS:
-Review slides about basic song structure and anatomy of songs (verse, hook, etc)
-lyric and vocal phrasing
-finding your voice as a writer
-exploring environments and conditions that foster one’s creativity for writing songs (preference for outdoors, quite secluded spaces, etc).

LIVE PERFORMANCE:
-Breathing/relaxation exercises
-Movement/watching footage of self
-Watching footage of others
-Acting/stage exercises to get out of your head and into your body
-learning common problems with live performances and becoming comfortable with fast, on-the-spot trouble shooting (and how to avoid some problems before they begin).
-Finding your stage voice, both in singing and speaking.
-Developing your stage persona

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lessons in the living room
Equipped with guitars, bass amp, guitar amp, guitar cables, and tuner.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Student should provide his or her own guitar (and amps when applicable)

*** Specialties ***
I'm currently a professional musician that sings and plays guitar and bass for pop and rock music. We perform in front of thousands of people each week so I'm very comfortable giving live performance instruction as well.

Theory, rhythm, and scales are combined with technique on how to play underneath a song with movement (walking)

About Steve
Music has been a part of my life for over 4 decades. I stepped onstage when I was 15, and have been active in the music business ever since. I was raised in the New York / New England area, and played in many bands in the 70's and 80's, most notably the band AVALON. I moved to Florida in the late 80's and began to develop a one man show, using the emerging technology available. I called the show YIN YANG, the infinite possibility of Music. I chose the name, as it is the Oriental symbol for balance, and used it to represent the balance between the electric and acoustic, and the technology of today with the classic music from yesterday. Midi guitar and guitar synthesis became my trademarks as I pushed the boundaries of how I could express myself on the guitar. Being able to play sax, flute, strings, pianos, even percussion on the guitar to
ok my imagination to new places and enabled me to express myself in ways I didn't know were possible. I grew up influenced by the classic rock guitarists such as Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Alvin Lee, Duane Allman, and used their techniques to springboard me into developing my style. I am also influenced by some of the great guitarists of today, such as Satriani, Vai, Bonamassa, etc. I am fluent in electric and acoustic guitar, slide guitar, open tunings, modal playing, and guitar synthesis. I also can play and teach mandolin, ukulele, banjo, bass, and also harmonica and folk harp. I am working on the bagpipes now. I also give lessons on music technology, audio recording, and music software such as Sonar, Reason, and Finale, to name a few. Music is the passion that feeds my soul, and a decade ago I started teaching, to have a chance to give back to the next generation and share what I have learned along the way. I love bringing out the soul of each new student I meet.

*** Lesson Details ***
When I take on a new student, the first thing I do is to sit down and talk to them and find out a bit about them... their personality, what their influences in music are, what artists they like, and what they are looking to be able to accomplish on the instrument. Each student is an individual, so depending on what they like, I will frame my lessons around the styles and artists that they like, and will incorporate the fundamentals and the exercises around the music that they enjoy. I will use the artists and the songs that excite my students to frame the lessons that we work on. I use music software to create custom grooves for each of my students to practice to, and also sometimes use a video cam to film my student working on a particular lesson that they are having trouble with, so that when they go home, they have an example of themselves playing the lesson, so they can study it at home to get it right. I am a firm believer in learning all the rules. I am also a firm believer, when you know the rules, to break them all. You have to know the rules to be able to break them. I will provide you with everything you need to shine on your instrument. My teaching technique is something that I developed myself, is quite unique, and, if you follow my program, you will progress REALLY fast. But keep in mind, anything good is worth working for, and if you REALLY want this, you will grow in leaps and bounds. Most of my students have been with me on an average of 4 to 5 years, some 9 or 10 years. I look forward to meeting you and helping you make magic with music! Ciao!

This enables me to create musical templates tailored for each student according to their musical interests, what they would like to focus on, and what their ultimate goals are. For example ...lead guitar, rhythm guitar, acoustic guitar accompaniment to their voice, etc. which ends up making for an exciting experience as my student learns their instrument framed around the styles of music that they enjoy.

Learn Parts and play with tracks, rhythm techniques etc...

About Mike
I teach all styles of music and all levels of ability

As I look back at my life, I see that music was my constant companion. My passion for music, and more specifically for the guitar, goes back to the time when, as a ten year old I received a guitar for my birthday. The sound of the instrument truly struck a chord in my heart and I learned to respect and love the instrument to the point that I thought of it almost as a companion, as something alive or, more exactly, as something my fingers could make come alive. At first I wanted to play rock and popular music, but eventually I switched to classical. When I entered the realm of classical music, a whole new world opened up for me -- new feelings, new emotions, and new challenges.
My enthusiasm for music continued, and beginning in 1990 I attended the Hartt School of Music, part of
the University of Hartford. I knew, of course, that the education of a musician is truly never finished, and between 1995 and 1997, I took Master Jazz Classes in New York City, under the direction of Dennis Cinelli, the international guitar player and soloist.
While in Florida, I attended classes at Florida International University. Between 2000 and 2003 I played in an orchestra on board the ships of the Royal Caribbean Cruise Line.
All along the way I have been teaching the guitar at just about every level, an activity that I always enjoyed but admittedly is somewhat limiting. Teaching brings us back to the basics, but for a musician performing is what makes us grow professionally and satisfy us emotionally.

I've played everything from Bluegrass to Big Band jazz. I don't place any limits on the styles or genres we can explore in our lessons. My main intention is to make music exciting and educational. I tailor my lessons to fit each students goals. We can learn to read, improvise, and play by-ear. For those who are interested, I also enjoy discussing what it's like to make a living as a musician (music equipment, live performance, studio recording, starting a band, finding gigs, etc).

About Zachary
Music is one of the most important parts of my life. I started playing when I was 6, and I've been hooked ever since! I've performed with bands in many different genres. Over the past two years, I've shared the stage with The Wailers, Charles Bradley, The Bellamy Brothers, and countless others. I've also performed with musicians such as Chuchito Valdes and Jennifer Holiday. Currently, I'm a touring musician based here in Tampa. I perform with a 10-piece soul band, a Nashville-based country outfit, and my own jazz trio. I love teaching and sharing my stage experience!

My students can always expect their first lesson to start with an assessment of their abilities. After I determine my student's level, we establish a goal & I create a personalized lesson plan for each student. Each week I go over what we had previously learned and then start on something new. I send my students home with a detailed practice log and short videos to make sure they are practicing the correct way. Each month I give my students an assessment on both performance & music theory.

About Maurissa
Maurissa (AKA Missy) has been playing professionally since she was 16 years old. She started with the violin when she was in the fifth grade and expanded her musical knowledge to other instruments such as bass, guitar, piano, ukulele, and drums once she got into high school.

In her freshman year of high school she joined her first band, Darkhorse, playing bass with them in American Legions, Moose lodges, VFW Halls, and many other venues.

Once she gained the necessary experience playing live, she was hired by countless bands and began doing session work on the violin and bass.

Teaching being her passion, she began giving music lessons to her classmates when she was still in middle school. It didn't take long before she was teaching the children of family friends and fellow church goers. And now, with many years of teaching exper
ience, she is playing and teaching music full time.

Hi! I teach acoustic guitar for all ages! I have 13 years experience playing and 3 years teaching. I tailor my lessons based on each individual students needs/goals. My specialty is playing and singing together, to include teaching students how to play cover songs to match their vocal range.

About Josh
Hello!

My name is Josh and I love to play guitar! I also enjoy teaching others and helping people find their inner rock star! I've been playing for 13 years, acoustic, electric, bass...you name it. I've been in a few bands (90s covers!) but find solo work to be my favorite setting. I'm fairly new to teaching guitar but have experience with people of all ages (7 - 40). I'm looking to grow my student base and find others who share the same passion for guitar that I do!

I am willing to travel to your location, meet at a park on a nice day, or book studio time (if requested) at a local studio. I also will invite you into my home to practice, whatever works for you!

I'm looking forward to working with you!

As a recent winner of the Ron Carter Bass Competition and the NEA Future Jazz Master Award, I can take your bass playing to the next level. I teach middle school students at a public school on the Upper Westside who are beginners and serious musicians wanting to get better. When I graduated high school, I was awarded a full tuition scholarship to all the major conservatories. I will get you the results you want on both electric bass and acoustic bass.

About Cole
I am a working bassist in NYC. I am currently teaching students ranging from beginner to professional. I teach at a middle school on the Upper Westside of Manhattan and have had a lot of success with teenage bassists. I also have older advanced students who I help in learning a different way of playing.
As last year’s winner of the Ron Carter Bass Competition and the NEA Future Jazz Master Award, I know how to win major competitions. I also can help you get the college scholarship you are aiming for.
I am able to teach in my apartment on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, your home or on-line.
I teach all styles, any skill level and all musical goals.

I was amazed how much I learned in just a few online lessons. Cole gave me a lot to work on and he knew exactly how to show me what was lacking in my playing. Man, this dude can play... and teach! Very organized and very eager to help you get better.
