I graduated from the University of South Florida where I received my BA in Theatre performance & Communication with a minor in Dance. In 2011 I finished studying Music Recording at St. Petersburg College, where I focused on Singing/Songwriting. I trained at NYU with the Aquila acting company in classical theatre, and I also trained with TVI Acting studios in Los Angeles in Film and television.

My Music and Performance experience started when I was 6 singing in choir, school productions, and taking piano lessons. I continued on with group ensembles, musical theatre shows and later on touring with the Spanish Lyric Theatre in Both English and Spanish in throughout Florida after college.

I have been teaching one on one and group lessons for 15 years in various subjects, Including Music, Dance, Theatre, Academic Tutoring (Eleme
ntary/Middle School subjects: English, Writing, Reading, Math, Social Studies, Reading, Writing, Learning Skills, Civics, French, and test preparations), and Culinary Lessons.

*** Lesson Details ***
*For Travel to location lessons I offer 45min or 1hour timeframe only. Online lessons any interval.

I like the combination of relaxed and goal oriented. I like to get to know my students and learn about about expectations and goals they have for themselves. Then I set up a plan that will help them achieve their goals and get them closer to what they want from their lessons. I take into consideration their interest, style, and help them to find their unique learning style.

I do have some guidelines for parents and students. If the student is a minor, I ask that the parent be in the house for the lesson. I also ask that the lesson be performed in the Living room or Music Space.

As a doctoral student at the University of New England, I am currently studying educational leadership with an emphasis on transformative leadership. *** Lesson Details ***

I design lessons individually according to the needs and "wants" of each student. I specialize in developing and correcting technique in technique to improve the student's overall skill. Students that dedicate the time and effort each week to practicing see rapid and sustained results.

However, if you have a busy life and merely want to learn guitar for personal enjoyment, I will design your lessons to develop your skill at a pace that works for you, which can fluctuate according to your schedule.

***Young & Special Needs Students***

I teach children as young as 13 years old and adults to the age of 70 years old. When teaching younger children and individuals with special needs, it is significantly beneficial for parents to attend each lesson - I have parent seating available. When parent(s) attend lessons, the parent can assist the younger student while practicing during the week at home.

In my experience, the overall musical development and progress of younger students improve considerably when parents are involved.

***Thoughts on Musical Talent***

Musical talent is a wonderful gift, but correct technique is not easily acquired without proper instruction. Your skill level eventually plateaus and your ability to learn and perform more complicated music is inhibited, unless you have a solid foundation in music theory as it applies to your instrument(s) as well as proper technique.

I can help you build this solid foundation and will guide you through the development of musical skills; correcting flaws in technique is my specialty.

I am interested in helping students struggling with math from basic algebra to calculus. When I was a computer science student, I took about 10 math classes; Calculus I, II, and III, Linear Algebra, Discrete Math I and II, Discrete Probability, Statistics and Continuous Probability, and Numeric Method on Digital Computing. I got good grades for all these classes. I enjoyed solving problems in math and often found myself taking the challenges of solving extra credit problems. It would be a very rewarding experience if I am able to share the process of solving math problems with others and help them improve their abilities to solve problems on their own.

I was born and raised in S. Korea. I studied piano performance at Cleveland Institute of Music and University of Iowa and hold DMA in piano performance and pedagogy from University of Iowa. Other than music I hold BS in Computer Science from State University of New York, Albany. I began to play the piano when I was six and won prizes from the local competitions sponsored by Daegu Board of Education and Dague Division of Korean Musicians Association. I performed in major cities in Korea, the US and Europe such as Seoul, Paris, Vienna, Cleveland and Philadelphia. I participated in The Joanna Hodges International Piano Competition during my last year at University of Iowa and was mentioned by the judges as a technically very good pianist. I was awarded scholarship when I attended Cleveland Inctitute of Music and Aspen Music School. My teachers include Jinsook Kim, Donald Walker, Paul Schenly, Gabriel Chodos, Viktor Teuflmayr, Claude Elffere, Anne Epperson, and Vivian Hornik Weilestein.
Previously I was a rehearsal pianist of operas, II pagliacci by Leoncavallo with Daegu Opera, Snatched by the Gods and Broken Strings by Param Vir with University of Iowa Theatre department, and contemporary operas based on the works by Francesca Cavalli with Temple University Opera. Other than operas I worked with Missoula Children’s Theatre for the performance of Aladdin. As a collaborative pianist I performed in numerous concerts and performed in master classes of Joseph Silverstein, Steven Isserlis, Julliard Quartet, Isaac Stern and Richard Stoltzman. I have been teaching piano at the university settings (University of Iowa and Catholic University of Daegu) or privately for 10+ years. Recently I taught at Half Note Music School in Bellevue, WA and was a pianist at St. Columba's Episcopal Church and United Christian Church in Renton, WA.

In search of helping our 10 year old son build some self-confidence we sought out clarinet lessons this summer. He started playing in school last year, and it was something our reluctant son liked "enough" to want to build up some competency. Joshua has been amazing! He finds just the right amount of challenge to encourage my son to practice, but not get discouraged. My son looks forward to his lesson each week and told me that he isn't even sure he wants to switch to saxophone next year because he is having so much fun playing the clarinet. Joshua is amazing with children, and has spent time getting to know our kiddo and find out what will work best for him. Patient, calm, and inspiring--very talented instructor.

Joshua Blatman is a fantastic music teacher. He has a great resume, is experienced in a variety of instruments, and a solid background in teaching.

While in college, I tutored students in various Math course ranging from Calculus to Linear Algebra. My students went on to get a deep understanding of the subject material and did very well in the classes I tutored them in. I believe for a student to learn, it takes effort on both the student's part and the teacher's. I take my time to fully understand what the student's weaknesses are and how to approach them while instilling confidence in the student.

I also tutored and was a Graduate Assistant in a few Electrical Engineering classes such as Circuits 1 and a few labs as well. I have a Bachelors and Masters in Electrical Engineering and I am currently employed as an Electrical Engineer. Math and Science is what I have known all my life. As far as teaching baseball, I played for a Division 1 team in college. I also worked in one of the largest baseball camps in the Northeast, the New York Baseball Academy, throughout my entire collegiate career. I taught children the fundamentals of hitting and fielding in a way that was fun and easy to learn.

I do not see teaching as simply repeating what has been already detailed in text books and lectures. Everyone’s mind is different and thus everyone has a unique perception to understanding one issue or another. Things are better illustrated with an example.

A while back, there was a television show hosted by a T.V. personality named Monty Hall. In the show, Monty presented a contestant with 3 closed doors. Behind one door was a new car. And behind each of the other two doors was a goat. The contestant had the option to choose one door so as to win the new car.

The probability that a car was behind door 1 or door 2 or door 3 was the same, about 33.33%. Let us say that the contestant picked door 1. Monty would then open one of the other two doors that were not chosen by the contestant. There were 3 terms in the game: 1) Monty knew what w
as behind each door; 2) Monty cannot open the door that was already chosen by the contestant; 3) Monty would only open a door that hides a goat.

Let us say Monty opened door 3 revealing a goat. Monty then asked the contestant if the contestant would like to switch to door 2 or keep his original choice of door 1. Contestants would be bewildered not knowing really what to do. Was it better to keep the originally choice or was it better to switch or it would make no difference whether to keep the original choice or switch?

Meet Marilyn vos Savant. Marilyn wrote a column called “Ask Marilyn” in a newspaper called Parade. Marilyn was known for having one of the highest recorded IQ. A reader sent Marilyn a letter asking her if it was better to switch or not to switch. Marilyn stated in her column that a contestant should switch since switching doubled the contestant’s chances of winning. Many of Marilyn’s readers erupted in protest including readers with Ph.D., mathematicians, and academicians. Most people believed that the probability that a car was behind door 1 or door 2 was the same of 50%.

This became known as The Monty Hall Problem or The Monty Hall Paradox. Articles and books were written over this problem. Actually Marilyn was right and this was proven using computer simulation. Yet until today many people cannot understand that switching doubles the chances of winning.

At first glance this paradox might seem irrelevant to teaching. But I think it does. This paradox tutor the mind in the subject of structured thinking which is very important in learning.
