About PAUL

*2019-2020 AVAILABILITY*

Hi, I'm Dr. Paul Lynch. I graduated in 2016 from Arizona State University with a Master of Music in Performance. I completed my DMA program at Arizona State University in 2019. I currently am the trombone instructor at South Mountain Community College.

With almost a decade of teaching experience, I provide personalized one-on-one lessons. My goal is to foster students who are relentless in chasing their musical goals. If you are a student striving to audition into all-region and all-state ensembles, this is the studio for you. If you are a student wanting to prepare for college auditions, this is the studio for you. If you are returning to the trombone or just beginning your journey as a trombonist, this is the studio for you.

My performance experience is varied. I was a tenured member of the Washington-

Idaho Symphony on bass trombone for five years. I left to pursue my Master and Doctoral degrees from ASU. Other orchestral experience includes several Summer Pops concerts with the Great Falls Symphony, some featured artists such as Kansas and Charlie Daniels. I spent several years playing in jazz bands, Jazz I from the University of Idaho and Concert Jazz Band from ASU. In the spring of 2016, I performed with ASU's Concert Jazz Band at Highland Jazz Festival where we featured Wayne Bergeron and Andy Martin. Recent performances include Salt River Brass' " Made in America" program featuring trumpet soloist Rex Richardson, Phoenix Theatre's run of "Bullets Over Broadway," and performing with and conducting the Arizona State University Trombone Ensemble at the 2017 International Trombone Festival. In December 2017, I made my solo debut performing with Salt River Brass. I recently attended the 2018 Pokorny Seminar where I worked with numerous musicians including Tim Higgins (SFO), Jim Markey (BSO), Dr. Andrew Glendening (Host/RSO), and Gene Pokorny (CSO).

I could tell Paul definitely knew all the tiny details about mastering the trombone since the first lesson. He recognized what I needed to improve upon in order to reach my goals in a timely manner, armed me with the tools to do so, and I have no doubt that I will achieve those goals as the lessons progress.

Private Trombone Teacher

As a teacher, I want to inspire passion. The trombone is my passion and I want to share it with you. Music is about creativity and expression and I want to help every one of my students experience this. I cater all my lessons to the student, but also want to help students establish a strong grasp of the fundamentals of music and the trombone. I hold a Master of Music in Studio Music and Jazz Trombone from the University of Miami, have worked in a variety of settings and styles, have been teaching for over 5 years, and can't wait to share my experiences with you!

About Hayden

My name is Hayden and I am a professional trombonist, composer, arranger, and educator in South Florida. I just finished touring the U.S., Canada, and Japan with the World-Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra, and now I want to impart the lessons I learned on the road with you. Before Glenn Miller, I completed a Masters Degree in Studio Music and Jazz Trombone Performance from the University of Miami and received a Bachelor of Music from the University of North Texas in Jazz Trombone Performance. I have been teaching private music lessons for the last four years and I have given public music clinics throughout the United States and Japan.

The goal of my lessons is to help students enjoy and understand music in a deeper way. Through listening, singing, clapping, and playing, I take students through material that we both like and help them exp

and their abilities and understanding. I cater my material to each person's needs while utilizing techniques from the history of music education to improve fundamentals.

As a professional musician, I perform a huge variety of styles for many occasions. As a former member of the Glenn Miller Orchestra, I am well-versed in traditional and modern jazz styles and improvisation as well as general performance techniques. I have also performed Afro-Cuban, Brazilian, and funk styles on many occasions. Between degrees, I performed on the cruise ships of Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruise Lines around the world for thousands of guests. During this time, I developed an understanding of classic Motown, Pop, R&B, Broadway Musical, and Rock styles. I was a member of the award-winning Bad Cactus Brass Band in my hometown of Phoenix, AZ and a member of the Los Wedos Salsa band in Denton, TX. I use these experiences to expose students to a wide variety of musical possibilities and techniques to further their journey as musicians.

Hayden has been teaching private Trombone lessons to my 13th year old son for over a year now. Hayden is organized and reliable; he is always on time, and has helped my son sound great. Hayden is passionate about Jazz, and knowledgeable. My son enjoys having a teacher that is as passionate as he is, and younger that the usual Trombone teachers we have found. :-)
Hayden has prepared my son for All State competitions, and for many concerts with his school and/or the jazz band my son performs outside of school. I recommend Hayden 100%!!!

His diverse career has led him to performances in a wide range of noteworthy venues, including Strathmore Music Center, the 9:30 Club, and Mile High Stadium.

As a marching member himself, he joined the Troopers Drum & Bugle Corps for two national tours in 2015 and 2016, was a member of the Cadets2 Drum & Bugle Corps in 2014, and was a featured soloist with the Towson University Marching Band in 2015. Zachary has taken these experiences in top level ensembles and applied them as an active and engaging instructor for marching ensembles in the Baltimore area and beyond, including the Towson University Marching Band, Pioneer Drum & Bugle Corps, and the Urbana High School Marching Band.

Zachary's professional affiliations include membership in Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Tau Beta Sigma, the Maryland Music Educator's Association, and the National Association for Music Education. Zachary has been a fantastic instructor for my son who is new to the trumpet and has never taken lessons before. Zachary is a very encouraging teacher, and he communicates very well regarding scheduling. He has also kept lessons fresh and interesting for my fifth grader, sometimes bringing different instruments and teaching tools that keep my son engaged. Highly recommended!

Zac taught me how to properly perform an aria in front of a whole lot of important people that I was stressed about. He gave me some excellent pointers on how to work with a pianist. His knowledge of music and his experience in performance has certainly shaped the way I perceive my own performances ever since that lesson.

"He had a good sense of humor and tied everything in to playing the trombone. He's really good."

"I played the trombone when I was a kid but lost interest back then. After not playing for about 15 years Billy helped me to get back to it. We covered rea
ding notes, learning a little bit about music theory (keys etc) and of course playing. I wanted to practice with some songs I like and Billy was able to write the notes down for me. This was super helpful and really made me enjoy playing the trombone again! We practiced in a room in the New School, which was cool since I could play as loud as I wanted, compared to back at home where I usually use a mute. He was very patient and friendly and I can highly recommend him as a teacher."
