I teach every student the technical skills and applied theory necessary to work in any contemporary style on guitar. I use the "Be better than you have to be" approach. Want to be the best on a bad day? Be better than your chosen style requires. I studied classical and jazz in order to excel at rock, folk and blues.
You will learn to read music and charts for guitar, as well as movable scale patterns, movable chord forms, and how to apply it all to master the fretboard.
Have you hit a road block? I can help. Are you brand new and want to be sure you understand the instrument completely? I can help.
For those who wish to combine subjects, I also have a 90 minute lesson option. The more time you spend, the less you pay per minute. I have adult students who spend as much as two hours at a time with me.

About Phil
I've taught both privately and in the classroom (in schools from Pre-K to college, and through workshops), and have been a working musician and teacher for more than 25 years. I have a degree in music from Columbia College Chicago (Summa Cum Laude). My students have included everyone from absolute beginners to working professionals like myself. Many of my students have gone on to careers in music as performers, songwriters and/or teachers.

My approach in private instruction involves tailoring the lessons to the specific needs of each student, while making sure that he/she has the knowledge and technique to succeed in their creative endeavors. Whether it's a hobby or a potential career, I leave nothing out. You will learn the entire instrument. In cases where a student works in more than one subject, one session can typically be applied
to all/both of them. I strive to help every student find their own creative voice, while building the skill sets required to work in any style of music.

I also offer group lessons for 3 or more students. For friends at similar skill levels, this can offer a fun and more affordable way to learn a subject. It also serves as an additional motivator as the students in the group feed off of each other for ideas and inspiration.

Please feel free to contact me with the "Ask Phil a Question" button on my profile here. This can include questions about my method, or regarding days and times for lessons. What you see in my availability here is based on my schedule away from TakeLessons. I have students elsewhere and perform shows regularly. I may have additional times available and tend to have some flexibility. I teach worldwide online. Just ask.

As soon as you're ready to book lessons, you can use the Green Button after selecting your area of study, day and time. I will receive a notification that you've signed up. I will then confirm with you and send a questionnaire regarding your lesson needs within 48 hours.

Thanks for your interest.

I look forward to working with you!

Luke is probably the best teacher you can get right now in my area. He is super knowledgeable but also very practical. He will understand where you want to go as a player and will steer you there with a lot of patience. In my short time with him, while I still have a lot to learn, my ability to listen to music, demystify it and then use it as inspiration for my own playing, has grown significantly.

Are you looking for a great guitar teacher who will push you to be your best self? Students who take lessons with me are given specialized curriculums to suit their personal guitar goals and make sure they get the most out of their money. Lessons with me are slightly different because of my background. I started out playing classical guitar and this has shaped my guitar learning experiences, which in turn changed the way I teach. I come at things from a musical theory standpoint, with precision and a focus on improvement through better technique and a solid foundation in the basics. Send me a message and we can start learning together!

About Brendon
I have been playing guitar for a total of 8 years, and teaching students for 2 years. In that time I have grown so much as a player and realized an innate ability to get across the best techniques for guitar, reading music and the other facets of music theory.

I started teaching at a professional music school based out of Wesley Chapel called Studio 28. After a while I felt that I had more room to grow as a private teacher and began to find private students. what I lack in experience I make up for in dedication and a constant hunger to learn the best tactics for teaching effectively.

if you are looking for a great modern teacher with new age teaching techniques, give me a try and I promise you wont be disappointed!

Born and raised in Chicago, I have been around great Blues men since I could walk. My grandfather was a harmonica player on the South Shore, and every weekend I would listen to him play with the other musicians in the area, and I developed a natural love for rhythm and the culture that came with the Blues. When I was about 13 I was able to get into bars (I was tall, and if you behaved yourself and bought a few drinks, the doormen looked the other way), but Buddy Guy's "LEGENDS" club, The Wild Hare, The Checkerboard Lounge (where Muddy Waters last played with the Rolling Stones), and many others soon became my weekend hangouts. I was playing piano, drums, and guitar from an early age, and later left for Los Angeles where I got a contract with Virgin records. It was electronic music, but I still played a lot of guitar on it and have been featured in Guitar Magazine, Keyboard, Rolling Stone, Spin, NME, and many others. I won the California Music Awards, was nominated for a Los Angeles ...

About Brian
Biography- Growing up in Chicago, I was immersed in and entranced by the Blues from the day I was born. We had family from Louisiana (as did half of Chicago, there's a train that has run from Louisiana to Chicago for one hundred and thirty five years), and so I spent summers taking canoes out on the Bayou and eating alligator on a stick at the local fairs, and listening to Zydeco and no lie, I had to square dance. Back home I was an honors student and athlete, but my first love was guitar and drums, and having a brother who played both allowed us to develop our abilities quickly. I was teaching drums at The Village School of Folk Music in Libertyville, Illinois by the time I was thirteen years old.
The guy who owned the store also owned a modern music equipment store, and after attending Eastern Illinois University , I was one of the
first on the scene when MIDI and digital recording systems for home computers became available, selling and installing early systems while managing the guitar department. I soon had produced enough original material that led to moving to Los Angeles, where I started Orange County's first electronic label, and was soon signed to Astralwerks/Virgin as a solo artist. This is where I learned about publishing, licensing, and the way the business works. I was soon licensing and producing soundtrack music, as well as touring and playing on records with Sugar Blue (the harmonica player for the Stones) Carl Zephyr (Rick James' bass player) H.R. from Bad Brains, Al Jourgenson from Ministry, Jello from the Dead Kennedys, and sold music to major companies like Microsoft ( millions of kids got that first X-box console with 'Gotham Racing', featuring one of my songs!) and New Line Cinema, Sony, Warner, etc. When internet piracy came around, the entire music business took a dive. I returned to another love of mine, computers, and finished my degree last July. I think it's time to share what I have learned with some very special people who want to know not only how Blues music is played, but also how those emotions are transmuted through your fingers, through the guitar and out to the crowd, where the slightest nuance can tell a story, or express a feeling that can't be said in words. This is how I approach the guitar. If you are interested in learning the music of John Lee Hooker, Elmore James, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Lightnin' Hopkins, Robert Johnson, and other great Blues artists, then I'd be honored. Thanks for your time.
